@TRINZINI: After the opening credits there's no music for about 20 minutes; there's no music when they're on the ship looking for Fay Wray after she was kidnapped; there's also no music during the airplane attack. Max Steiner knew instinctively how to score a film, and KING KONG is a perfect example of that. The film runs 104 minutes of which music covers about 75 min. That's not "omnipresent".
Anyone ever noticed that this is the one part in the movie where Max Steiner's omnipresent musical score (thankfully) stops completely ? (The absence of music totally increases the impact of this magnificient scene ... and what incredible sound effects !!)
The death of the Rex is pretty gory for its time. I guess they could get away with such a graphic demise because it is a creature being killed and not a person.
Heh, good eye. I never noticed that movement in the background. I don't know if it's something bubbling or if it's just leaves that were accidentally brushed up against during the animation.
I know that they had to cut some footage because a flower bloomed in the background and nobody noticed until it appeared to bloom in a matter of seconds during the test footage. Speaking of which, I wonder what was cut.
Odd. The shot in question is obviously rear projection. She was on top/under that tree for a whole day, screaming at the rear projected beasts. Well, that's what I read, anyhow.
So how did they have someone rustling them and not being in view? It's mainly the top ones that rustle with the tail.
In Goji, Kong takes it technically, but Goji survives and puts up a good score to settle for V-Rex (but in my POV Goji wins cause of his nukes if you don't count Kong gettin powered up electricity) For the V-Rex if you watch the part Jack Driscoll goes to find Ann, you can still see that the Rexy's KOed breathin heavily-not quite dead yet-though badly hurt
Sorry, Moses. I gotta disagree. Back then, hands were not yet found for the tyrannosaurus and so it was assumed that it had three claws like most of the other prehistoric carnivores. Additionally, it was designed as a tyrannosaurus for the film Creation before the project was canceled.
I cried at that scene when I was three-funny thing though-Kong actually doesn't kill the Rexy but leaves him for dead as you know-the Rexy's still breathing
do you know how they animated king kong and t-rex? they made a puppet and keep on taking pictures and movie it slowly and then they put it in the movie screen. thats how they did it.
Kingkonglesseler, I agree with your comments I thought PJ screwed up with his version. Too long and over blown, the original is way better and far more exciting. 3 hrs as opposed to 1and half hrs. And for just for everyones info I worked on the movie as a set builder for the Wall and New York in PJ's Kong.
This sequence is far better than the die hard version PJ did.
Man that's REAL oldschool!Gotta love the classics, but they make King Kong look like a pervert when he smiles, it's like he wants 2 fuck her when she's not looking LOL!
LOL, PJ's movie blows when compared to this-72 years later and with all the new technology he managed to screw his movie up, Kong was a Monster-not a silverback gorilla
Incredible detail here...love the way the Rex kind of paws his head when he first shows up. Great sound,too...the hiss when the Rex shakes his tail is cool!
Hard to believe this is almost 75 years old. By far the best fight scene of any of the Kong movies - nothing else even comes close. Unlike most of the other Kong fights, Kong's strength alone isn't enough to take out this opponent. Every time Kong tries to go toe-to-toe with the Rex, he gets knocked down, kicked, or push away. Kong learns that he has to use his brain as well if he expects to get out of this one.
Karate vs. Judo, Boxing vs. Wrestling, Tai Quan Do vs Brazilian Jiu Jitsu --fights always go to the ground and grappling, locks and chokes have the last word.
Fuck what is this quality !

Oh, and notice the bubbling mud/lava in the clearing throughout the fight? So awesome!

1:40 - How did they do that? The Rex's tail brushing over the leaves? How in God's name did they do that?
Moseslawgiver 3 years ago
They just lined up the stop motion footage with someone rustling the leaves on the Ann set.

It'd be cool if someone put Jackson's version of this fight on YT... but everyone adds to it some pointless music...
