The moment Excalibur is caught by the hand of the Lady of the Lake & taken down into the murky depths set to Wagner's stirring Gotterdamerung, is just breathtaking. In my opinion, John Boorman has created one of the most moving images ever put on celluloid.
Inspiring sceen from an excellent film. Britain needs Arthur now more than ever. In this age as a paramilitary leader fighting to liberate Britain from the new invaders and excalibur will be his AK47.
@5thcenturyad : wonderful, now I have to watch this excellent scene knowing some BNP member considers it inspiration to form paramilitary groups to fight off immigrants because they're the wrong color or religion. Kind of like the skinheads who love the song "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" even though that scene in Cabaret is supposed to frighten, not inspire.
@Hurqq So wrong, take Mythology 101 and you will find out that the phallic symbol of an unsheathed sword from a fallen man behind NEEDS to return to the eternal feminine of waters, womb, cauldron of food, fertility, etc to recreate life again as the constant forces of Nature. If the erotic and sacred of wet fingers holding the sword escapes you, you are really beyond the land of dreams. Frozen alive as dead Merlin
@tig2007ger they like that song as a joke, the song was written by a jewish homosexual, but was parodied by a skinhead band in the eighties which has made it their own and inspiring
This scene along with the music is one of the most moving parts of a movie I've ever seen. Amazing because as a teenager, I knew the story of course but the music just makes it legendary.
Researchers exploring the legend of Britain’s most famous Knight believe his stronghold of Camelot was built on the site of a recently discovered Roman amphitheatre in Chester.
Ah, Percival. A country boy who has become the most noble and faithful of all the knights. What a wonderful legend this is, that allows the most humble lad to become the last of the very best. The last man standing and true to the end, that's the man whose example we should honor.
Bringing our great heros back to life so we might learn from their examples. Isn't that what myths and legends and good films should do?
Excellent points you have made to cause some our people to perhaps ponder this life, and I do believe Mr. Boorman was doing what he felt best to reach our young back in 1981.
beautiful epic film: definitive King Arthur movie

I wish the rest of the ending were not cut off. It is artistically important that the music and credits continued till the end.

@tig2007ger It's kind of funny. Guy throws a magic sword in a lake where a woman living in a lake catches it = racist inspiration.

Historians claim to have finally located the site of King Arthur’s Round Table – and believe it could have seated 1,000 people.

Excelente final. Genial. Sin palabras, a veces una buena música, y unas imágenes como estas, son mucho más que suficientes.
