chas63, absolutely agree with you. Ella's voice was every bit as accomplished as any opera singer and she was definitely the greatest voice of the 20th century. A vocal genius who put her mark on any song she sung.
I've never heard this; a cute little recording. Ella could have done anything she wanted; I have no doubt of that. She could have sung anything; classical, opera, whatever. She simply was, the greatest voice of the 20th century. No doubt.
Hiya Shane, I have this on vinyl, Anyone know how rare it really is ? It's on the orange Salle label from '66, Salle being Ellas backwards, clever eh ! :-)
@lemonambulance I never even noticed that. I have a copy that I got from a flea market. One of my precious finds in my travels to yard sales and such.
It was on Ellas own label, SALLE and recorded in September 1966 according to the discography I have. Only issued as a single, but the bulk of the show can be found on the Live At The Greek CD
Actually, not to be a know-it-all, but, especially in the early part of her career, Ella sang a lot of "commercial" songs. Songs like "Chew Your Bubble Gum" and "Rock it for me." This really isn't such a stretch for her. She used to do "Ole McDonald" in concert too. She's not just Cole Porter and "Mack the Knife."
why do any of ellas videos have dislikes??

@chas63: I will agree if we can say "one of", remember Mahalia Jackson and Kirsten Flagstad, just to mention two gigantic voices.

ella can sing ANYTHING and make it her very own. check out her version of 'sunshine of your love'. EXCELLENT!, way better than cream's version, IMO.
