I am pretty sure the difference you are seeing is the difference between the actual core temperature of the CPU in Core Temp vs the CPU temp or the temperature just under the heat sink plate of the Processor. That temp is a single temperature assuming only one probe point just below the outer casing of the Processor. It would not be unreasonable to see a 10deg C difference depending upon the thermal conductance being experienced at the heat sink interface and the actual core temps.
