I would, as well visited Kowloon if it stood stand. I'm sure it smelled bad because of the excess dirty dripping water, old clothes, un-clean people, and unsanitary shop; but I would love to see it for historical, and experienced reasonings.
holy shit this is truly AMAZING , if this wasnt called "the city of darkness" it would be called something much more cunning idk like " the tunnels of darkness" or somthing. this is far beyond crazy. the picture at 3:25 is suppose to be an like an alley and its in the frigin day time, do you see that little sunlight at the top? i would do anything to visit this place, it would be such an adventure but too bad its gone.
looking at this video it reminds me of the shanty city I visited for 1 month it changed me completely when I came back to britain it was hard to accept that people ar rotteningly rich that is no need to be bloody rich
oh I do now sniper it took me awhile but poverty has followed me since my first breath now I embrace it with honour not pride but humility is what poverty has tuoght me a well lesson to share my life and never give up
Photo at 3:14 I was thinking that too It's over 14 floors you count 16 and also you can not see the top or bottom so I guessed it to be 18-20 storys 6 floors more then what was aloud. would like to know where that pic was taking..
Just so you know, the photo at 3:14 is almost certainly not KWC. I count at least 16 stories in that building, and the Walled City never got any higher than 14 stories due to the proximity of Kai Tak airport.
I think that you are correct. I remember reading about the height limit construction restriction, due to the airport. I got the photos from a Japanese website which was linked on the SkyscraperCity forum page for KWC. Hmm... Well, considering how modernized Hong Kong is becoming, whichever building is shown at 3:14, probably will be gone soon too, if not already. Hopefully at least the Chungking Mansions will remain.
You guys may both be right. However, from the photo of 3:14, the compactness of the building can only exist in KWC. As to the debate on 14 or 16 storeys, the height restriction would prob state 14 storeys for a normal building, but as we all know buildings in KWC have no control and no permits, so each stoeys could have been reduced in height to accomodate for an extra 2 sotoreys or so.
If Kowloon Walled City was still there, I'd be on the next plane from Chicago to Hong Kong. The place is so beautiful, in a very unique and historical way. The lives that were there, all of the moments spent and shared, the times of love and hate, all existing in that amazing metropolis of devoted souls. Physically gone, yes, but the very spirit of Kowloon Walled City lives on through memories and photos.
It is for the historic value, I suppose. The architecture, the lives lived there, the experience of it, etc. I'm not a very love life, type of person. Although, I do appreciate adventures, and the experience of learning. Visiting KWC, would be an honorable experience spent shared with the people who lived there.
I understand the structure looks beautiful outside. Inside, it's a mess. You can check out KWC video for actual footage on youtube. The workers there were mostly illegal immigrants from China, so you will not meet that many old tenants. Since most people there were from Canton China, you can visit poor part of China and get a sense of what kind of people you are dealing with. These people are desperate and they will do anything for money.
Not really. Nobody wanted to live in that place. The final protesters who didn't want to leave want more money as compensation.
I hope you understand China. People struggle daily for better life. They had to live in the walled city because they have to (due to legal reason). Everyone wants to be rich and get out of there.
Yeah well your lucky you have civiization and cleanliness smart arse. The only difference between you and a person living in a garbage dump is the person living in the garbage dump has more heart.
