  • How do I get the music for the entire Preface and Eucharistic Prayer for the presider?

  • I was wondering if I could get the SATB music sheets of this new arrangement from Marty...Can anyone share his/her copy of the SATB music sheets to me? please email me in this email add. glenn_0914@yahoo.com..thank you very much! God bless you!

  • While it's not the original, at least we get to hear that beautiful melody. I would rather sing this than the terrible version we are using now. Mass Of Creation Forever!

  • I am used to the mass said in Latin, when I was little. I joined the choir 9 years ago. Now it is this way. All the ways we give praises to God they are all beautiful to me.So sing praises to God. That is all that matters.

  • we'll get used to it in time!

  • Thank you for posting this, I don't know how I could learn it by myself! It's easier if I hear it and then try to sing it.

  • I love this mass setting.

  • Even though the music has a reverence to it, the lyrics and music doesn't have the flow of the original version. I wish I had the instrumenetal versions, I sure would like to listen to them when I pray silently. I am not a fan of the new missal. How funny it is that many of the words are synonymous for the words that were replaced. Unfortunately I have seen some people leave church and have not come back and yet there are others that are almost shouting out the old prayers.

  • I wonder how many of you are musically trained or know music theroy. This version yes, it is different but it is still beautiful. It has the beautiful chant feeling to it and the airiness of the choir

  • @undivinexxgrace *Theory

  • So far, I have heard 3 new settings, and I like this one best by far. The Mass of the New Covenant is OK, and the ICEL chant is horrible.

  • It is NOT ruined! The arrangement is still beautiful and works with the new translation. Yes, change is not easy. It is hard. Imagine how the Catholic faithful felt after Vatican II! Now, that is change! We're dealing with a few words here. Before you know it, everyone will be used to the new responses and all this talk of change will be history.

  • Absolutely beautiful. The source of my prayer this a.m. Thank you!!

  • Definitely let it go. It doesn't work now. And it still does not match the new language (which does not use 'inclusive' language). I did like this music before the new translation. But truly it does not work now. Time to write a new one.

  • Haugen's music aside, that preface is marvelous.

  • The revised Gloria does not work with this setting, however everything else flows nicely. I also appreciate that the Agnus Dei has decided to follow the actual text of the missal and not take liberties with it. At college now we're doing Jubilation Mass and the Cantor sings "Lamb of God" on the first and 3rd verses and the people respond, but on the 2nd verse the cantor sings a petition like "Firm Foundation" or "Hope of Sinners" instead of "Lamb of God" I personally am not a fan.

  • Well, this is terrible. Time to start bringing solemnity back into the Mass.

Let our prayers raise up like incense--(which we need more of too).

  • why does everyone hate this new mass of creation? i like it...

  • I'm amused by all the sturm und drang over the "new" 3rd English Missal. Look up the 1st English Missal (1965-1973) and compare and contrast. Then look up the Latin original (or if you're in a multi-ethnic parish, compare Spanish or Polish). You'll find that ICEL paraphrased rather than translating the Mass, and the 3rd English Missal pulls it back into focus.

  • If this is the case, we should get rid of English in the Mass and go back to the original Latin! Let's give this new translation a try! By the way, I went to a Traditional Latin Mass a few weeks ago at St. Paul's Church near Harvard University.

  • my friend JojoBee19, think of yourself before you judge the Church of Rome. You need to understand the change firstly. It's very important that the other languages has been change a few year ago. We need to go back to the original and based on that we translate.

My God change your mind and be humble !

  • Revising the mass is the stupidest thing Rome has done since they buried their heads in the sand over the pedophile scandal. With all of the problems the church is having in English speaking countries do we really need to make so many worthless changes?

  • @JoJoBee19 The crisis in the Western Church is a crisis of faith. People don't believe anymore, in part because the Mass they have been hearing for 40 years doesn't convey the faith.

  • Marty, Being that i use these mass settings this helped me out and i want to say thank your for posting this even though i dont like all of the chanting

  • Awesome! Thank you for posting God Bless YOU!

  • I think all this is change for the sake of change. And Bennie and the Jets over there in Rome have nothing better to do than pass down decrees... Meh.... Marty Haugen retranslated this, one of the most popular masses because he had to, not because he thought this new translation was a good idea. BTW, to all those LOVING these new changes, do you think GOD was up in heaven going, "WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY PRAYERS?! THAT'S NOT THE WAY I WANT TO BE WORSHIPED! TO HELL WITH ALL OF THEM!" Jus Sayin

  • The only ppl that like this are ppl who believe when the Bishops speak they cannot do any wrong. Many of these changes were absolutely unnecessary. They are archaic, and pointless. There are not THAT much of a meaningful difference between the words now and what they were before. Thumbs Down me if you want- call me a heretic or a hypocrite, but I'm not going to sit hear and listen to stupidity.

  • We in Poland have this translation since i rememer. I'm 30 .

  • we human beings just don't like change -- but those who are far wiser than I felt this is for our own good -- so may God grant us patience, intelligence, and understanding to adapt with open hearts -- thank you for the beautiful music we will begin using it

  • I wondered how some of the familiar Mass settings would work with the new texts, and I heard they didn't work at all. This one sounds quite good, I think. I wouldn't be surprised if the "Mass of Creation" survives the text change and continues to thrive as one of the most popular Mass settings.

  • i still think this is the most powerful glory to god.... love it

  • Being a Music Minister I love all your works. You are a pioneer, someone who wrote the book. The Jesuits, The Damiens, Gary Daigle, you are all blest and will continue to bless us all with your works of music. All the negativity has no place for those who play for Him. In God there is Mercy. Again, I thank you with all my heart. Marty, thank God for your gift, and I look forward to contine to play for His Glory!! festacholi@att.net

  • Start with Mass VIII on holidays, then expand from there. The _Liber Usualis_ doesn't bite. Really. Get in the groove with the Church's awesome liturgical heritage, not on-the-spot music of the past 40 some-odd years.

  • Don't worry Marty... all the haters.... lets see them compose something as good, or reviese something as well as you!!!! Let us see it.... thats right... nothing.... The haters hate it because it will be another 1,500 years of your wonderful Mass Setting.!!!! God Bless and thank you!!! I will let your Lutheranism slide just this twice... you will convert sooner or later....LOL

  • @m134089 You do realize that Marty Haugen is one of these protestant idiots you refered to in the video "Mass of Creation Gloria, guitar mass", don't you? So I guess this means that you'll be taking back what you said, right?

  • @m134089 You claim Protestats are idiots, yet you praise Marty, HYPOCRITE! Why can't you make any rebuttal's? Are just an ignorant catholic pew warmer, who is not truly devout and knowedgeable about his faith? I was a devout Catholic, knoweldgeable too (still am), so come on let's have it out.

  • I won't criticize Marty Haugen, as I've liked almost everything he's written, but I don't understand why these seemingly minor changes were required by the catholic church. I agree with others, this is almost difficult to listen to after knowing the original by heart after hearing it nearly every week for the past few decades. Wow.

  • This will be very hard to "re-learn" since this has been around and used so much. It would be easier to learn a new one from scratch. I love all his work, though.

  • blech... pretty sure haugen just recorded this version on the first try to match the new translation with something that reminded him of the old Mass of Creation... not very good lol

  • who wrote this version?

  • who wrote this version?

  • This is truly terrible. How can the catholic church tolerate these awful folk masses?

  • 00:00 P5 Glory To God = 02:50 P13 Gospel Acclamation (Alleluia) = 03:50 P19 Preface Dialogue = 05:25 P20 Holy, Holy, Holy = 08:15 P24 We Proclaim Your Death = 11:05 P29 Doxology/Amen = 11:40 P26 When We Eat This Bread = 12:40 P34 Lamb of God

  • I'm a Cantor for my Church, and the other night our Director unveiled Your Revised Mass Setting. I have always been a fan of your original Gloria, and Holy Holy. I like what you did with the original setting. The choir discussed the fact, that because our Congregation Is Familiar with the original, setting, that with all the changes happening, the Congregation Won't feel left out. Good Job Marty and Thank You. MAO86@MSN.COM

  • I like the setting very much. The new Missal is much more (somber isn't the right word) but focused or serious. I think this is just as inspired as the original.

  • Never like it the Old way nor the new way.. ... too overdone over the years and there are many other settings out there more appealing.

  • I think it works very well for what he had to work with.

  • The recording of the Gloria does seem to be a bit somber. Have never really liked the Gloria in either setting. Won't use this setting with my people, because they know it to the old text too well.

  • How wretched!

  • I think Marty did a superior job of refining this. It was my favorite mass, and I hated to see it go. God bless Marty, because even though I may not like the new translation, he did an excellent job of refixing everything! I will save this for future use, as I am currently working towards playing this mass for my local Church.

  • I could maybe sing this new version; but only after thoroughly forgetting the old text, like in a few years... we'll be switching to a setting that's either completely new, or new to our parish.

  • Let it go, Marty. The new text does NOT work with this setting.

  • @taggart81 what do you mean let it go... I go to Latin Mass and this is great!!!! Your crazy he did a wonderful job where are your new masses for the people? with the new text..... I thought so...... email me m134089@yahoo.com if you have something new i am composing a new mass.

  • @taggart81 Your crazy... It is a wonderful Revison. Are you even a musician with a music education from a univeristy. I bet not. Lets see you do better.... I will bet you this... this will still the most popular Mass Setting in the english speaking Chruch.

  • @m134089 Actually, I have a degree in choral music and vocal pedagogy, in addition to being the Director of Music at a Catholic parish that has been in existence since 1899. Not only do I have "music education from a university" but have cantored at numerous Catholic churches and have assisted our Diocesan Director of Liturgy and Worship in preparing our parishes for the musical changes that will be coming with the New Roman Missal. I still stand by my original statement about this retrofit.

  • @m134089 Furthermore, I find that setting a GLORIA in a MINOR key (especially at the tempo in this video) isn't exactly the best way to proclaim glory to God.

  • @taggart81 Actually, there are tons of Glorias in the Liber Usualis that are set in medieval mode I, which is the Dorian mode, WHICH in modern music theory would be set in a MINOR key. If you have a problem with Glorias in a minor key I would take it up with the medieval Church Fathers. Perhaps they misunderstood how to appropriately sing glory to God.

  • thank you so much for this!! i've been wanting to hear the new versions for a while. i also heard the old original versions that you posted that i've also never heard. i don't think my music director is going to do the new versions at our church. he said "it's like putting square pegs in round holes." which i kind of agree with but it's not like they're horrible. hopefully he picks some good new ones! thanks again!!!

  • Much of the melodies have actually been rewritten. That sounded harder to sing, but in a way it sounds more solemn than before.

  • @scholarmark Yes, we did the un solemn for 45 years.

  • @scholarmark the lamb of god sounds better without the "jesus" in it

  • @Stealthguy06 I agree.

  • Is this sped up? My version sounds soooo slow.

  • It's completely ruined now. Not that I wasn't sick of it because it's overplayed, but it's terrible now. They need to just let it go.

  • @pdamiani488 It's ruined? You're ruined!

  • @WhopBobbaLuBop Actually I'm quite fine thanks. This arrangement doesn't flow the same as it used to in the old one. It's overplayed anyhow. It's time to move on and let it go.

  • @TheHoliness I imagine it is going to be extremely hard to implement this after 25+ years of using the "original" version. I think it has been adapted well to the new text, except like you mentioned with Eucharistic Prayer II. It seems so "stagnant" compared to the Eucharistic Prayer III in the original version.

  • @DoctorMerz From my sources inside the Church is that the Church will start to make this transistion into the new text in the fall (August-November).

  • Love it!!! Could care less about the Gospel or the Eucharisitic Prayer II chant.

  • This is annoying. Lets do chant or something a bit more dignified please.

  • It is going to take me a long time to get accustomed to this new version after using the original Mass of Creation for so many years!

  • @DoctorMerz Tell me about it. I have done this with my choir and I am scared that they will not like it.

  • Just as annoying as the orignal

  • @jfvoll ... BINGO!

  • Wow, they ruined The Gospel Acclamation by totally dumbing it down. Way to go! Other than that, this is still the best Mass (short of Mozart's Requiem Mass, but that's like on a different level altogether).

  • @jw870206 not only that but the music for the Eucharistic Prayer doesn't sund as pretty niow. I wish they hadn't changed the text. i mean yeah it wasn't an EXACT translation but it wasn't bad
