On my way then i guess. Thanks for your comment on my video, unfortunately i removed it instead of replying... fail... but i did appreciate it for the 5 seconds before i erased it from history... Sorry :(
Your playing is fantastic btw, not just fast but imaginative, which in my book is what counts.
I'm using a standard Marshall1960A JCM 900 cabinet in this video. This comes with some 75 watt Celestions. I believe that the vint mod combos and speaker cabinets come with vintage voiced Celestions (possibly Greenbacks but I'm not sure). I no longer own this speaker cabinet and got me a Mesa 2x12 Rectifier cabinet. Nothing wrong with a combo vint mod either. My fav guitarist in the whole world Mr Paul Gilbert uses a vint mod combo and he sounds awesome.
My cabinets in this vid are loaded with stock speakers. The Laney has a quartet of Celestion Rocket 50s and the Marshall has a set of Celestion 75 watters the type that come in a 1960A JCM 900 cab). Ive now sold these cabs and using a custom purple Mesa Recto 2x12 which just sounds amazing!
I am using a power attenuator to achieve this level of gain from the Vintage Modern. This allows me to crank the amp really high so that the power amp is singing on all cylinders while still being able to achieve neighborhood friendly volumes.
If you don't have a power attenuator you can always use a devent overdrive pedal on the front end and get similar results.
Actually married and have two kids, but I have a very patient wife and both my kids love it when I play to Dream Evil's Children of the Night.
I like the Vintage Modern...however the pensioners in my street don't like me cranking it. Sometimes they throw their dentures over the fence in anger.
I'm an Aussie guy living in the UK and our street is filled with the newly wed and the nearly dead...
I take you're not married either considering your exquisite taste in musical gear.
Thanks for watching my vid. Those ENGLs are very nice amps. I'm currently using a Mesa Mark III slaved into a Recto and that is eviler than Satans Farts.
Dude I finally stereoed the Jcm 800 and The Vintage Modern its prettty interesting like you said its got that VM thickness in tone and that Midrange sexiness of that JCM 800..Plus by the way your a kickass guitar player too...Want to post vids on my youtube but my computer is kinda acting up ..=( thats the only way I could let you hear it sighs fucken gay PC lol
Yeah I hope so I really go on youtube as much or havent like pimp out my page or something lol just love watching vids of guitarist or hear different amps lol...
I reckon hooking up amps in stereo is the ultimate in tool in tonal diversity aye. I like the idea of hooking up 2 amps that sound fairly different from eachother and together produce a sound that is totally unique. Your JCM 800 and your VM together should sound awesome!! Let me know how it gets on.
basically running 2 amps simultaneously. For example slaving the preamp of one amp to the power amp of another amp is a form of biamping which ultimately creates more interesting character. Eg if I slaved the preamp of my Recto into the power section of my Marshall Vintage Modern, it has the gain and crunch of the recto but the smooth roundness of the VM.
The Ultra 60 is a great amp! Very high gain lead channel which can be toggled between a fatter smoother sound or a hot super high gain more trebly sound. Go get one!!
Dude, you've got a seriously sweet tone from that amp. I'm looking into getting a tube combo at the mo and had my eye on the vintage modern. You managed to get the perfect level of gain from it for what I would need. Are you using an overdrive pedal as a boost or is that the natural tone? I had a very quick test of one with a les paul last year and liked what I heard. Gonna be using an Ibanez S470 with it though (If I buy it that is)
In this video I am running a power attenuator between the VM head and the cab. This device allows me to totally crank the amp up and achieve high levels of gain at a neighborhood friendly volume. I am also biamping the signal from the VM preamp into the Peavey head above it via a splitter box. However straight into the amp, it also sounds great!! A very organic amp and even if you don't use it the way I do, it works fine with any good OD boost pedal. RK ON!!
I can find one for 900€ (almost 1400$ US), do you think it's a good deal? I play a lot of metal but also some rock, hard rock. I've got an ESP Eclipse with EMG pickups and i want a modern sound for my groupe and à mor "classique" sound for myself. Can i have it with the amp if i dont use another head like you or other boosts?
by the way, i love waht do you play whith the looper, so great!
Your best bet is to go to a shop, roll up your sleeves and try it out!! You'll either love it or hate it. I think the amp is great for controlling your tone from the volume of your guitar. Not great for playing highly progressive music with the need for super clean to super dirty. More of an organic sound. It sounds like you need a very versatile amp. Try a Marshall DSL or JVM as well. Might be more to your liking if you want to cover both modern and classic tones.
I saw you comment knocking the blues players of this amp and your invitation to come see you "shred". Although, your playing is not bad. shredding it is not. Shredders would not let you in their club. tone not great either. must just be a camera mic. With all that gear I am sure it sounds better in person.
Who said anything about knocking blues players? I love the blues! If you read the comment again, I actually complement the vid but merely notice that VM vids on Youtube seem to be guys playing blues rock. Yes the Marshall marketing guys have flagged it as a great 70s blues rock amp (which it is)I just wanted to show that the amp is also great for non blues based music and can compete with them Rectos etc. As for the shredders club, are you the shred club chairman cos I really wanna join!!
Thx for the answer! i'll try to paly with it at the shop, after my exams! I've seen a cool Brunetti head (don't know if you know this kind of amp). It's an Italian handmade amp with el34 and 6l6 valves and you can mixe boths, it's kinkda cool and has a lot of gain too. Hard to find your "right" sound...
I've never heard of Brunetti. Then again I live in New Zealand and we don't get the more obscure brands. If this Italian amp is anything like an Italian sports car I'm sure it'll be a winner!
The song with the "two" guitars playing is a bastardised excerpt of and original piece by my old band that we called "The Gothic Love Song" which I aptly called "The Gothic Love Interlude" for this video. Very stoked that you like it!
As for the dual guitars, yes it was done using a Boss DD20 Giga Delay on SOS mode which allows one to sample 23 seconds of your own playing in a loop. Very cool feature.
haha yeah. The size of that rig seems to scream out "get a life dude!"
I'm always thinking about selling something in it but worried I'd miss it. all the tonal bases are covered here. Great cleans from the DSL, Modern sounds from the recto, high gain vintage sounds from the VM.
dude you,re insanely awesome,, you,re vm tone just peeled the paint off my wall,s,,, im a huge fan,,,make an album i,ll BUY IT.....great playing too!

is it to loud for in a room with just normal walls and neighbours?
and with a 2x12 combo???
ozzyfan1995 1 year ago
@ozzyfan1995
Loud is a relative term. The 2x12 should be plenty loud. Keep the volume around 1 and your neighbours shouldn't mind too much....
