  • I have truck like this and love it. I also drive a 379 Pete with an 18 speed at work.

  • tryna get my folks to get me a stick shift truck, dont care what brand as long as it aint an import

  • I've got an '02 F150 4.2 Reg cab shortbed and finding a manual tranny was absolutely hell! out of several dealers that truck and a jacked up ram were the only standard trucks arouns o.O

  • my old man has the same exact truck, very nice models i`d say he`s got about 98,000 on it, yours?

  • @ghezzinator9000 think it had about 80k on it when i traded it in on an 06 chevy... hit a deer last year so it was cheaper to trade than fix it..

  • @biglinc1 ouch! why would you get a dodge.

  • dang, i miss my manual transmission truck. i bought a dodge ram 1500 to replace my 84 nissan. that thing was gutless but had a 5 speed. wish my dodge was a manual. oh well

  • @truepyro28 seems nobody wants to offer manuals today... they think automatic is the only way to go... :(

  • @biglinc1 i know i wish that they had manuals i wish my 90 f150 was a 5 spd

  • @timcass33tc last weekend i drove through a few lots just looking at cars and trucks and no trucks with manuals just a couple mustangs i saw... I think everybody must go for automatics... they must think nobody can drive manuals...

  • @truepyro28 seems nobody wants to offer manuals today... they think automatic is the only way to go... :(

  • that's pretty nice truck ya have

  • @jr540123 thanks... i just recently bought an 06 chevy silverado... i got an automatic because shifting gears in heavy traffic every day was starting to get on my nerves... haha

  • Allison 2500 PTS right?

  • @knightrider1545 mazda M50D-R2... standard on all ford f150's using the 4.2L v6 and 4.6L v8 gasoline engines

  • @biglinc1 my bad i was way... off

  • @knightrider1545 No prob... I think ford uses allisons in the diesel trucks... I didn't know these had the mazda tranny til after I bought it.. I know the mustangs use the borg warner and tremec around those years... The tremec T5 was a good tranny in the GT's

  • @biglinc1 I dont think you can even get a manual tranny anymore. Not even in the 2wd V6 shortbed. Thing of the past. Sucks, because I love manual trannys. I would love to have the chance to get a new F-150 4X extended cab, 5.0L, with manual trans. Nope, not an option! Sorry!! IRKs me!! Ford does not offer a manual trans in any pickups other than the Ranger. Same with GM. You can get a 6spd manual in a Dodge, with the Cummins. Thats all the choices.

  • Drive it like that, it will last you a lifetime!

  • @MrShuaTube i hope it lasts 2 lifetimes... mine and someone elses.. haha

  • @biglinc1 yep! lol

  • wow some people like this video maker are just lonely, sad people.

  • I wish my Commander had a 6 sp manual. That would make that little V6 more adaptable to working the two tons of Jeep it has to haul plus my gear.

  • @divisioneight i think manuals should at least be an option on all trucks and suv's...

  • Mine's a 98 wit a 5 speed

  • Stick shift trucks are ok but I like the sport car shift

  • @anitec19 Sticks are always better for trucks, they tow so much better. Why do you think Semis use manuals!

  • god floor shifters are so ugly, consoles are the way to go

  • @xMITCHx336 then i guess you won't be buying a truck with a manual transmission....

  • @biglinc1 nope im gonna stick with my jeep with a 5sp 4.0 i6 high output

  • @biglinc1 i wanna see someone put a shifter on the column again. that would be sweet

  • @ccubsfan94 would be sort of fun... haha

  • @biglinc1 thats what i learned to drive a manual with. 74 chevy heavy half ton with a 3 on the tree. and when i first went the linkage was locking it in third. first time with a manual having to drive all the way home in third gear. it was great. i think the column shifting is fun. because when you drive with people you shift and there like wtf. its like its a manual. they are like whys it up there. cause thats how they made it. there rare to see nowadays but would be cool for a comeback

  • @ccubsfan94 my grandpa had an old ford truck with a 3 on the tree... Was pretty cool but it seemed wierd with the shifter up there compared to the newer manuals on the floor... Only thing, with just 3 forward gears, they won't get the mpg that the 5 speeds will... I went to a car show during the 4th of july and there were some 60's fords and chevys that had 3 on the tree... Sort of funny to see a family car like a Galaxy or Impala with manuals!! haha...

  • @biglinc1 yeah. they should make a comeback. the manual transmission in general. everyone is concerned about car control and gas mileage. both those problems are solved just in the tranny alone.

  • @biglinc1 late 90's tacomas have their shifters in a console...but thats not much of a truck either.

  • @amusichound aye. i remember that. mitsu made some trophies like this one. but royally drpped the ball on some of their autos. lol. course every automaker has done this in some way shape or form.

  • @amusichound ill agree 9 out of ten times. ive had 3 foreign trucks, an 86 nissan hardbody. BASE i mean base. 1 mirror, vinyl no ps. hell in summer. had a 94 toyotasold it to my aunt. still on road today. and a 2000 frontier. 2nd car out of 22 that i bought new. rest have been used.

  • about only ford and dodge make em unless u want a forein one

  • @jbearwssmhunter yeah, and i don't want one of those...

  • WOW! I thought they stopped the manuals! Im sooo glad that they still make/made them!

  • @itsallchickenboy yeah they're sorta rare to find, but they made them in F150s til about 08 and I think GM til around 03 or 04... Not sure but I think that you can still get manuals in the Colorado/Canyon and Rangers

  • @biglinc1 i think you have to special order them from the factory now at least thats what ive heard.

  • @fordchevyyota i'm not sure you can even special order them now or not.....

  • @biglinc1 sadly. manuals i like. aka bolt action transmission. not hating autos, but people here in teh us dont care for manuals. many wont learn to drive them.

  • @yamahonkawazuki I learned on a manual transmission, and i've always enjoyed driving them over an auto... go to other countries and they DON'T like auto's... In the US people want the easiest way to drive - throw it in gear and go... And u rarely hear of issues from manual trannies like you do with auto's... US cars and trucks always have auto tranny probs but manuals last forever - even if you treat them like heck!!

  • @biglinc1 agreed. ive had many manuals and had been an OTR driver. 2.5 million miles.and had only ground once. 313 k miles on my nissan frinetier. and clutch was as good as new

  • @yamahonkawazuki WOW nice record!!! congrats!!! I've heard the nissan is one tough little truck, and I actually looked at one about a year ago when a deer hit this F150... It was a manual 6-speed and really wanted that truck but the dealer wouldn't budge on his price so I ended up buying a Chevy Silverado (auto) which I've spent way too much in repairs on... If I had it to go over again, I'd bought the Nissan Frontier and paid a little more for it...

  • Hello, I just started driving a Stick Shift Truck, which happens to be a 1995 F150 Stick. But theirs no Tactometer on it. So how do i know when to shift it? I don't want to end up killing the motor or anything, i know how to shift, take off, and stop. i just don't know when to actually shift. if you have anything to help me, that would be very great. thank you

  • @IMUmbra the best method is to just listen to the engine, don't rev the shit out of it, when the revs start picking up, shift. I have been driving a stick shift for a long time and i dont even need to look at the tactometer.

  • @IMUmbra like JC500000005 said, i rarely look at the tach... You can use common sense by listening to your engine and you will find the shift points that work for your truck. Practice where theres no traffic. Usually around 10 mph you shift out of 1st to 2nd (sometimes sooner)... And by most time you're in 5th gear around 40-45... (regular driving)... Take your time, and you'll find its very simple and shifting comes naturally... Good luck!!

  • @biglinc1 yup there coems a point when you quit making power and are just making noise. i wouldnt worry too much about overrevving it, you would KNOW you were doing it, and probably float valves before you broke something

  • @yamahonkawazuki true true.... I think the rev limiter kicks in on these too while in gear even to keep from damaging the engine on newer cars and trucks in lower gears.. But surely, like you said you can hear the engine rev sound loud enough to know that its way too loud to shift (if you don't have a tach)... then again, there's people who haven't a clue about a manual...

  • i didnt know that they still made f150s with manual transmissions

  • @cubamexico5567 I think it was 07 or 08 they stopped using them... they put them in v6 starting in 04...

  • @biglinc1 ahh its a shame they stopped with the stick shift. they make the already nice truck better

  • Shifting like a pro! Respect!!

  • @TrU3KIRa1128 thank u...

  • Too bad about the deer--I like a basic manual truck! In this vid it looks like when you parked you maneuvered and put it in reverse and backed it in. Do you always do that?

  • @cj19621 yeah lots of deer around here... i have dark tint so its hard to back out in the early mornings when its still dark...

  • nice looking truck. do you still have it?

  • @cj19621 thanks man!! I hit a deer with it, so i bought a chevy truck to replace it...

  • haha i have a 92 F-250 with a 5.8 and a 5 speed. the throw in this truck is so short compared to the older F-series trucks

  • @hotrodkid7 The throw's in the v6 f150s seem to be almost car like.. haha... Its definately nothing like older (or larger) trucks... lol

  • cracks open a cold one and stands by the ol truck

  • @Novantii haha... :p

  • i wish my 06 had stick shift. way better

  • @manvais I love stick shifts too but I've heard now you can't even get a stick in the new ones Ford or chevy

  • @biglinc1 thats just a demand based economy for you

  • @viperdude400ltd exactly!!

  • @biglinc1 2008 was last year for a stick in a ford but 2003 was the last for a stick with a V8 in f150s and im pretty sure it was the 4.6L only. i think all 5.4s were auto including the lightning

  • @timmypstyle I think you're right... I think 2009 all ford full size were automatics. that was the year for that newer body style...

  • @biglinc1 im positive on the 08 being the last year for a stick(thats why i got my 08 in september 08 instead of getting an 09) and also a V6(except 2011 ecoboost V6) but 03(possibly 04 if its a heritage edition) was last year you could get a 4.6L with a stick. 04's were 2 body styles, new one was V8s only, heritage was basically leftover 03's that were built in 04 with any engine. then in 05-08 all 4 engines were offered(new 3v 4.6L in one of those years). 2v 4.6 was base in 09 & V6 was dropped

  • @timmypstyle I just checked a site and the 08 was the last year for the 4.2L v6 and the manual transmission... Any 4.6L v8 came with the 4-speed automatic (at least 06-08) - not sure prior to 06 on the 4.6L for manuals though

  • @biglinc1 i am positive the 4.6 came with auto or manual in 03 and before, know someone who has a 03 4.6L 5spd.

  • @amusichound Just bought a 2000 Ranger with a 5-speed. I love it.

  • @amusichound I not an automatic fan fan either, especially of GM trannies.. I've had too many problems with their automatics, most seem to fail way too early, but seems as though everything these days are all auto, and manuals in trucks are somewhat a thing of the past... Doesn't seem right, but I guess Detroit thinks that people prefer automatic over manual... They need to ask the public not their company people IMO...

  • @biglinc1

hey, i love bangin gears, but too bad we got all these lazy people that dont want to shift, i no someone who believes the less work u gotta do is better, well its more fun to shift gears and you have much better control of your power.

  • @crappyconstruction for sure man for sure!! sad that in the 1/2 ton trucks they've gone to automatics.... There's still people who prefer manual trannies and certain situations espec with 2wd, an automatic is almost useless...

  • @amusichound I had a ranger 5-speed, not sure what kind of tranny it was, but it never gave me any probs... In fact had 2 rangers, a 94 and 05... Great trucks!! Actually I think ford makes the best trucks on the market... I have a chevy right now but I still think for is #1...

  • @amusichound yeah i got it down now i took a while, all is good

  • Looks like your shifting requires a little pause or something between gears right before the next one grabs, My 02 4.2 does the exact same thing as opposed to my bmw or a civic i drove.

    Just thought it was weird.

  • @jangoreo Sometimes its really smooth, and other times it sort of grabs... I've had to double clutch and even rev up the engine to get it to go into the next gear... Seems like the small (especially imports) are much smoother shifting than this truck. I had a ranger 4-cyl 5 speed and it shifted similar but not quite as bad...

  • @biglinc1 ranger you had was a mazda tranny, i had one too(97 I4). thats why its smoother. my f150s are fine. they are trucks so you cant rip thru the gears. i tried ripping from 1st to 2nd, it just wont do it that quick. never had to rev up the engine to get it in the next gear. dont know why yours does that. also you shifted into 4th at just over 30mph, thats too early. i have a 3.55 rearend and lowest shifts if cruising are 10(2nd),25(3rd),35(4th), and 45(5th). accelerating is 15,30,45,55

  • @timmypstyle since these trucks have no low end power, it is actually struggling a little to accelerate the way you were. you will actually get a little better mpgs if you keep it in gear longer. i tried babying my 97 ranger when i had it. babying it led to less mpgs than normal driving and getting on it a moderate amount. normal was 21mpg, getting on it every so often got about 18 and babying it got 17. the engine doesnt work as hard if you hold it in gear longer so it uses less gas.

  • @timmypstyle i don't remember which rear-end that one had... it was horrible on gas for some reason. I had a friend with a 4.6L x-cab ford and it got better mpg than i did in this v6... My silverado 5.3L crew-cab is better than this one by about 2mpg... I like the ford trucks better than chevy trucks but when i bought this one i figured a 4.2L v6 would get good mpg, but apparently something may have been wrong with this one just not sure....

  • my F-150 is a standard V6 but its a 2000

  • @spenjax1111 is it a 4.2L

  • @biglinc1 yup :D

  • @spenjax1111 coolio...

  • @spenjax1111 yup!

  • @spenjax1111 yours will be quicker possibly than the 04+. yours is lighter. but it really depends on the rearend you have and what body style you have. my 04 heritage(03 style) was 4.2L reg cab longbed 2wd 3.08 rearend. got about 19mpg combined mpgs. got a K&N intake and got 23.5mpg combined. even a K&N drop-in got me 20mpg. now have the same intake off my 04 on my 08 and it gave me an extra mpg or 2. the 08 is reg cab shortbed. bigger, heavier, 3.55 rearend and less aerodynamic so thats why.

  • @timmypstyle i have the XL 3 seater

  • @spenjax1111 yeah my brother's 03 ext cab 2wd auto weighs almost the same as my 08 reg cab shortbed 2wd manual. my 04 heritage weighed 3897Lbs according to my PA state registration. my 08 is 4364Lbs. my brother said his was about 4350Lbs.

  • @timmypstyle man mine works good but it shakes alot when i shift from 1st to 2nd, i might need to fix the transmission

  • How do you like your manual F-150? For some reason, the idea of a manual truck really appeals to me.

  • @bassist4dalord manuals are pretty good in the F150s... I've had a few manuals - 2 rangers and this F150... Good gas mileage, and decent performance for this size truck. I traded it for a larger chevy truck (crew cab) and its automatic, but the mpg on autos aren't quite as good... and they're not as "fun" as manuals... Only thing I don't like about manual trannies are when I'm driving in a lot of traffic, its gets a little old shifting gears all time. But other than that, they're great.

  • @biglinc1 yeah gotta agree with you, manulas are more fun, specially if you have a nice loud muffler, downshifting or "tranny stoppin" is fun, also they are more reliable when it comes to stopin. and doing burnouts, i miss my "87 "cheyene" (silverado)

  • @sancho721 for sure... i wish they hadn't stopped making manuals in trucks... all the new ones are automatics now. Its hard to even find a 5 speed in anything past 2000 or so even in the small trucks... seems like everybody wants auto...

  • From what I can see of them, nice feet!

  • @malefootcrazy shoes don't always appeal to me... lol

  • @biglinc1 some here like foot porno idk why. hell if i need porno ive got the internet. what is it with feet? nowhere near connected to what feels good

  • @yamahonkawazuki yeah man, i just don't understand that sh*t.... i'm going to be comfortable (especially when i'm not working) but after i started seeing the feet people's comments i started thinking i should SLEEP with shoes on

  • ha thats funny cause in one of your ranger videos your also driving with no shoes

  • @50fordman haha yeah.... I almost always drive barefoot when i'm wearing flip flops...

  • I see you steer like a typical mediocre driver. I don't know why anyone puts their hand at the top of the steering wheel... its not comfortable, you don't have very good control, and it DOES NOT look cool.

  • @TheVampyreCat I'm NOT steering like a mediocre driver, and when I'm behind the wheel I'm not worried about "LOOKING COOL"... (in fact looking & acting "cool" is the least of my worries in this world).... Turning is always HAND over HAND, and maybe I move my hands to the wrong position in this video, but I generally drive at 9 and 2 which is the proper position...

  • @biglinc1 Amen to that Brother! Vapyrepussy worried about lookin cool instead of being a safe driver.

    What a ying yang....

  • @TebooTedMarshall tru that.... i'm concerned about getting from point A to point B "safely".....

  • @biglinc1 or 10 and 3 depends on where the thumbrests are. i quit trying to look cool when i was maybe 17? then concentrated on doing what i had to do to survive.

  • @yamahonkawazuki haha true!! I try to concentrate on what my surroundings are when I'm behind the wheel, not looking like "coolio joe"... that went out the window a few years back for me too.... Trying to look cool to impress someone doesn't get you anywhere... But there's a few people that go through their entire life and never figure that out...

  • @biglinc1 ive driven one handed in my cvpi on occasion. but most of hte time. i used either 9 and 2 or 10 and 3. that old cop car was hell in winter. but fun too. funny thing was i could out drive the cops using hte same era equipment. few times played getaway driveer when they were training. didnt make any money. BUT i did get a et of tires and some gas out of it so it was good

  • @yamahonkawazuki hahaha.... sounds like a lil fun in the old CVPI... I love those Crown Vics, and its a shame that Ford is deleting the panther cars... those old cop cars are little beasts... those things will leave their marks on teh highway just like a mustang too!! haha... lots of those around here that get sold off at auctions and they look so much like unmarked cop cars that you cant tell the difference, so i'm always a bit worried if im driving a little over the limit when i see one

  • @biglinc1 i wouldnt get nowhere too fast on 2 lane country roads. people would go THE LIMIT and no more. so id pass. when i could. had a surplus horn from a siren pack. disabled the siren for legal reasons. ( although a hidden toggle would re-enable it) tbh tho its cheaper to get a p74 civvy unit. and teh ecm out of a p71. you get cheaper insurance by far. and no limit onspeed :D. fastedst i had mine was to 142. im guessing thats when the moto i was pacing lifted

  • @yamahonkawazuki haha.... nice!!!!! hadnt thought abou tthe p71 ecm switch but thats the perfect idea... :p I was driving down the freeway yesterday and heard sirens but couldnt see any vic's then all at once saw 2 of the new ford tauruses... they were unmarked plain cars and apparently had that SHO engine. if i were a cop i think i'd like the crown vic best but they're gonna stop making them i think this year... :(

  • @biglinc1 yes imho when they get away from RWD, they can no longer use throttle or tirespin to control direction. on FWD, tirespin = NO steering control. most of the LEOS on my area, ( some former co workers) all want RWD. we have chargers right now mainly. getting them, some went cheap and got the v6, some got the hemi's BUT its rwd so thats a plus. but im a ford panther fan, or even fanboy. my ol cop car hit a tree, gotta try and move it, as long as fuel pump killswitch didnt trip im good.

  • I am looking to buy a truck but not sure if a V6 F-150 will be reliable.

  • @alexmp7 the F150 v6 is a really reliable truck... I'm in the process of trading mine for a V6 chevy extended cab. I wanted a ford v6 X-cab just couldn't find one.... V6's get good mpg, and they seem pretty rugged... I liked mine - just should have got and x-cab instead of a single (for the room)...

  • It would be so awesome if the 5.4 Triton V8 came with the option to have that same transmission!

  • @TheTerminator310 yeah man it sure would!!! I don't know why they stopped making manuals in trucks - and started going with automatics... The new Ford and GM's from around 08+ all come with automatics - V6s and V8's... :(

  • Yeah. Manuals are so more dependable and give the engine more power. If the 5.4 Triton came with the 5 speed manual, it would be the perfect truck!

  • @TheTerminator310 haha yea!!! autos give more probs reason I like manuals best... but I wish mine had more extras like power windows and stuff, but guess what I have will do for now... lol

  • Haha, yeah. I hate my truck right now. It is so gutless it is not even funny for a V8. It needs a manual too. I have seen more power come out of a Volkwagon Beatle, lol. I need to change gear ratio bad!!

  • @TheTerminator310 right now mine goes "fast enough"......(for the blue lights to flash behind me)... *shrugs*

  • Haha, yeah. Mine is hard to get out in traffic though. You have to virtually floor it to make it to go, lol.

  • @TheTerminator310 haha... don't floor it too much or else you'll be like me and "see the lights"!!!

  • lol, it'll be ok. My truck isn't fast enough, lol.

  • @TheTerminator310 I need a fred flintstone truck!! #LOL

  • Haha, yeah. I love F-150's, they're tough as nails, but they're NOT powerful. Even the V8's ain't got nothin', lol.

  • @TheTerminator310 haha... works for me tho for now... I dont need anything too fast right now... #LOL

  • lol, yeah. I'm not going to give up on mine. I was thinking about getting rid of mine because of how weak it is, but I just decided to keep it. Besides, I just got it, lol.

  • @TheTerminator310 haha... i hear that... i've only had mine for a couple months, so i definately can't sell it just yet either... lol

  • Haha, yeah. I got my truck on March 11'th. My Grandad bought it for me. It's the first truck I've ever owned, lol. I'm pretty happy with it.

  • @TheTerminator310 sweet... thats about the same time I got mine... :)

  • @TheTerminator310 my 1998 v6 runs like a bat out of hell!!!

  • Oh yeah, they do. The 5.4 V8's won't run with the V6's.

  • @TheTerminator310 If I'm not mistaken you can only get automatics in all Ford trucks now and all them are either 5.4 or 4.6.. no more V6s after 2008

  • Really? I didn't know that. The 5.4L isn't gonna be used much more either. In 2011, I think they're changing the engine in the F-150 to a 5.0L to replace the 5.4L.

  • @TheTerminator310 i wish they'd use that ecoboost v6 in the F150... that engine they use in the new Taurus. That engine has some hp!! Ford puts it in that Lincoln MKT and MKS too... Think its like 325-350 hp maybe?? I'll have to look that up tho

  • Cool!! Yeah, they defenitely should! Sounds like it would be pretty fast.

  • @TheTerminator310 i'd like to drive one of those new Taurus's and see how fast they are.. I think they're sweet looking cars!! Actually one of the best looking new cars on the market right now!!

  • @thewhofan99 i'm trying to sell mine (or trade it)... mine is a serious gas hog plus it has a lot of problems wrong with it.. If I'd bought a 4.6L ford truck at first think I'd been satisifed but I just dont' like v6 engines that well.. I'm not even getting 12 mpg on the highway :(

  • @biglinc1 something is indeed wrong with your truck. the 5.4L gets at least 12 in the city. first thing that comes to mind is a bad oxygen sensor

  • @thewhofan99 doesn't matter now... i sold it and i'm buying (I think) a chevy silverado with a 5.3L v8 (extended cab)... the ford v6 and gm v6 engines are just too small for this size vehicle, plus the 4.2L v6 is a throwback from the 1980s - since its a bored out 3.8L essex v6 (same as the old 4.3L gm V6 - it came from the 80s also). Both GM and ford need to upgrade their engines to more modern versions - even the V8s in trucks... People don't want engines from the dark ages!!

  • @biglinc1 a v6 truck has to be a stick for me. the automatics don't run the same. especially the 4.2L

  • @thewhofan99 i drove a v6 automatic, was too weak for me too.... I got this automatic chevy its decent, but i'm just not an automatic "fan" on any car or truck.... but its OK for now... I'll find another manual down the road i can trade this one for...

  • @biglinc1 i see. i've always been a manual tranny fan especially after i drove a 5 spd 4.0L ranger. thing ran so damn hard! but then again the ranger is MUCH smaller than a full size truck

  • @thewhofan99 I love rangers, those things with manuals in any engine are fun to drive!! I had 2 5-speed Rangers (both 4 cylinders) and they'd go anywhere I put them... Even though they were just 2wd those things were hard to hang up even in the worse situations... (short wheelbase, 5 speed Rangers = fun)!!!

  • Awesome. is it easy to shift?

  • @northsiderollers yeah, shifts smooth as silk..... :)
