True story: I am one of the most rabid Phantom Planet fans in the world. In early 2004, I began vividly and earnestly to visualize the band performing a cover version of "Our House." Then, out of nowhere in 2005 this very song recorded by Phantom Planet shows up in an obscure little movie called "The Chumscrubber." Talk about a musical wet dream become reality! I never expected this actually to happen. When Alex Greenwald lovingly sings the line "only for you" I now feel touched by God.

The way he phrases each sentence, each word is so perfectly done without much perfection in itself if that makes sense. Almost reminiscent of an old song derived from the beatles era. I love the video as well, just the fact that it's not filming a bright sunny day on the beach or watver but of a typical grey backdrop, on the road, on the go through a series of monotonous concrete blocks.. it very much exudes the qlaity of the song. Finding something beautiful in simplicity.

It's an incredible cover that's what i'm sayin. It's a great cover of the original in the way it merges its own personality and the old; not copying the exact way of phrasing, form and instrumental backing etc but it still manages to attain the flavour and form of the old. That's what most covers do but in this, it almost sounds as if it was composed in that era. And it's got to do with the natural ability of the voice.
