  • just what im tellin everone in the deathmetal realm...technique/rudements and control...how would u describe your ghostnotes?or pute them on paper?or how are thes played at 19secs.?triplettes,doubles,quads?say if u played that beat consist....

  • Good stuff.

  • @jameskeefer0906 Thanx. I appreciate it. I actually didn't end up going there after all. I did get accepted, but i didn't get the loan. anyway, i appreciate u taking the time to watch the video, and comment.

  • nice man. all drummers need to keep a beat. and this is just opinion- but if you lower your ride and put it by your floor Tom, because then you'll have a better reach on it and you won't have to stretch

  • how did you manage the micing? terrific quality

  • Thanx. I mic everything, and record it onto protools. I mix everything there, then sync it with the video, on video editing software.

  • Great chops man. Glad to hear you didn't spend the dough at MI.

You're probably better off using the money to hire your own personal PR company to promote the talent you already have.

I know a few MI "graduates" that are amazing drummers but they have absolutely no clue how to get high-paying gigs which MI doesn't teach.

    Best of luck man...

  • @FunkyRoverz Thanx brotha. i appreciate the feedback.

  • you should really consider looking for something better than MI. youre better than mi imo.

  • @CHlRS I mainly wanted to go there for the networking opportunities.

  • niceeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! awesome drumming bro! greetins from Argentina!

  • @TheMjliberiangirl Thank you! :)

  • far out, solid, right on

  • Nice work man! \\m// Rock on! \\m//

  • You have to audition to get in?

  • Yah, its part of the application process. Audio only, tho, not video...... at least when I applied.

  • im not sure if it is still the same, but back then it was $34,000 for the AA degree, which is a year and a half....not including living expenses.

  • @etdrum That is ridiculously priced... wtf.

I agree with the comment below too, you should definitely consider uploading some tutorial videos. Great player.

  • @etdrum a lot of money for sure!

  • nice audition man! you get accepted?

  • I did get accepted, but i didn't end up going for financial reasons.

  • @etdrum oh, how much was it?

  • @etdrum You shouldve gotten a scholarship

  • brake some of these licks down bro

  • Im gonna have to do that sometime, for sure.

  • I think I'm gunna write this out and learn it.

  • haha. that'd be funny. sum korean dude already started on it. I cant seem to post the link on here, but u can search it if ur interested.

  • hey thats some kick ass tight drumming" now i know those fills are mostly linear but it sounds really well put down in the right places and at the right time'. it would be great if you could break it down, oh by the way am planing to apply to MI, this fall. keep up the good work, all the best. cheers "./

  • honestly, i wouldnt know wut to tell u, cuz i didnt end up going. my goal was to definitely take advantage of the networking opportunities. The education alone wont get u work. There will always be people who can play circles around u, but at the end of the day, its about who u know.

  • Comment removed

  • @etdrum SO u never went to MI?? WHere do you live, and what do you do now?

  • No, I didnt end up goin. I live in San Jose, CA. Right now, im living at home, working a 9-5, and playing as much as i can. Hopefully I can make the move to LA, or Austin, in the future.

  • @etdrum oye y que ay en austin?? por que yo vivo aqui en austin y la verdad queria ir a M.I pero no sabia que abia escuelas de musica aqui en austin y pues yo yebo tocando bateria desde lo 4

  • Hey man that was absolutely sick!!...I plan to apply to MI in the fall of this year, after a year at a junior college due to my grades from high school...But I just would like to know what's the best advice you can give for going about the application and audition process?

i wish i can play like that

  • muchas gracias. no acabe estudiando alli. mucha gente me dice lo mismo. que gaste mi dinero en esa escuela.

  • nice fills!

  • i went to MI for 2 different programs (RIT, GIT) best time of my life.. I want to go back.. I graduated high school early and went right in right when I was about 18.. I'm almost 23 now

  • Hey man... didn't you try to apply for a scholarship???... I mean you have a great level... much better than mine... nice work...

  • this is pretty good :) would you suggest applying to MI right after high school or going to a community college first?

  • I would say thats the best time to do it. I wish i woulda gone right after HS, and not wasted my time..... i mean if ur seriously trying to persue a music career.

  • @etdrum ohh ok,well i really am looking into pursueing a music career :)

  • did you get accepted?

  • yes, i did. i think most ppl get accepted.

  • damn... i'm tryin to get into MI... i'm not THAT good, though... shit... i'm fucked...

  • @zooby11isbambam noo ur not dude! jus practice alot :3 youll make it! i wana go there! im only 15 though haha i hope i make it when im older :)

  • My friend, I would say you have more of a chance to network through YouTube now than anyone has ever had. Create your own channel, put some video's out there and see what happens. Why pay 80 grand when you already have the knowledge and skill set to be successful? Attend a few clinics and meet people! But, if you have your heart set on it...Then go for it! :P Either way, I think you will be successful

  • Thanx. I haven't had any formal training in drums. I took some theory at a local JC, which definitely helps.... but thats pretty much it. I mainly watched videos, and practiced to my records all day/ everyday. My influences change according to my mood, and development. I got a lot of my initial groove and pocket from mexican music, as a kid. Then much later, i went through a gospel phase, which i s where i got a lot of my phrasing, and agility from. And now its groove again.

  • Haha. Thanx. Thats was the initial goal, but its too far from home, and too expensive. I cant even afford to go to my local JC. Times are tough.

  • Thanx.

  • i like your style.. what are the requirements to get into MI? Also what is your advice for jumping in and out of the pocket as well as you do?

  • Well, i applied a few years ago now. I don't know if all the requirements are exactly the same. You can probably get a current, and exact list of reqs, from a couselor. Just contact the admissions department through email, and ask them to send you an app. The app itself has all the reqs, depending on your area of focus.

  • tss brother mis respetos pa usted ayi aver cuando te grabas tocando otra cancion norteña texanona otra de intocable saludos

  • Muchas Gracias. E estado un poco ocupado ultimamente, pero de seguro voy a tratar de grabar mas nortenas.

  • man you sick!, i wish i could one day play like you

  • thanx bro

  • For the life of me, I cannot figure out why you think you need schooling! You already have the most important tools. Drive, imagination and love of the drums. Thama hit the nail on the head. Find some like minded musicians and form a band. Explore what is in your heart and head and go for it!

  • Thanx. I mainly wanted to go there for the networking. Being an MI alumni, you get some opportunities, that u wouldn't get otherwise.

  • Really like your style man

  • Thanx.

  • Dude you dont need to go to that school!!!!!!!! all you need to learn is reading and styles thats not worth 80,000.. YOUR DOPE!! take it from me I went there... I learned how to read and styles. your already better than half the teachers... trust me dude.. YOUR DOPE!!

  • hahaha. Thanx a lot bro. I wont be going for a while, if i even go. Thanx for the support tho.

  • ur a sick drummer man, so hows it go for you now that u didnt get in? are you drumming for a career now

  • so did u get in?

  • i did, but i didnt end up going for financial reasons.

  • @etdrum

What do they look for in drumming?!

  • they just want to see that you havent just started a month ago. along with the app, u send in recordings of specific things they ask you to play. its all on the app. which you can contact them to send you one.

  • @etdrum

alright thanks!! I'm planning on going to berkelee... doubt i can though haha

  • so you have to audition to get in? send them a tape or what? I thought you could be fresh to your instrumnet and ust learn it at MI

  • yah. u send an audio sample of specific things they ask u to play, depending on ur instrument....along with ur app. they just wanna see that u didnt just start playing a week before

  • @etdrum so you cant be new to your instrument? how much do you need to know?

  • Well, im not sure how much u need to know, but if u dont understand wut they are asking u to play, on the app, thats probably a good indicator that u need sum beginner lesson first. i dont think u have to be able to play everything perfectly, but i gotta be able to play sumthing. its not a music school to start taking ur first lessons at.

  • Pretty good man :) Gratz

  • Yeah I went to Mi too.. I highly recommend taking RIT (recording engineering program) because you'll learn about tone and how to record yourself and about producing music.. and also take your instrument program too.. best school.. im sad its over

  • That is some hot ass drumming

  • That was amazing.

  • Unfortunately, i dont live there, or anywhere near there. if i could, i'd definitely would want to live there, because of the music scene. definately one of the 5 best places to be for music. good luck to u at MI. its a great school.

  • Hey man good job! Hope you get in! im going to apply at MI in Two years as soon as im out of high school, maybe ill see you there! hahah that is if i get in hope i do cause i dont have a back up plan. But really good luck!

  • good luck to u! im sure yoiu'll get in. u should probably think bout working on even just a small back up plan, tho. i didnt do it, and now i regret it. jobs are scarce right now.

  • @etdrum dont worry im attend community college right now as well so if things dont work out ill go back to community

  • wooo!!! Those are some killer chops!! crazy sextuplets!

  • hey man im aplying to MI next year is it hard to get in?

  • Not as hard as most people think. If you've played drums at least a year solid, i think you'll be fine.

  • @etdrum ok thanks man im pretty nervous about the audition great vid by the way killer chops!

  • No prob. Good Luck! Im sure you'll do fine!

  • @etdrum Sick man. I'm moving to L.A from stockholm, Sweden in about a month. I'm attending the vocal program at MI but i'm mostly going to see what the music scene in LA is like and play with some new musicians. Do you live near L.A.? or if you don't do you spend any time there?

  • This is great mate. Subscribed.

  • as of now, how are you doing in the music industry? considering you are sick at drumming so im curious to see if you got a job as a drummer

  • MEAN..!!!

  • No offense to the school, but you seem like you are already pretty skilled so I hope they can actually teach you more. I went there in 2007 for the RAP program.

  • Thanx. Im pretty sure there is something i can learn from the program, tho. Another reason i want to go there is because of the networking with musicians and teachers. Especially since i come from a town where there's not much going on musically.

  • @DiminishedStudios The school is about a lot more than just learning your abilities.. I'm currently a guitar student, and even though I came into the school with a decent amount of chops and knowledge of theory, (had an MI Alum as a teacher for 2 years, so I already know the curriculum) the elective classes are fantastic for stylistic approaches to music. They can expose you to different styles you may or may not have a vocabulary in. And the networking you gain from being here is bar-none.

  • Wow man nice job dude. Your linear grooves are solid man keep it up dude, hope to one day meet you and jam with you.

  • hey i was thinking about going there for drums once i graduate. jw, how should i prepare for the audition? how well should i be able to read music n stuff like that.

  • i hope this isnt a stupid question but don't they have some scholarship thing that helps out with finances as well. at least thats what i saw on the site don't know if wat i saw applies to drummers as well.

  • Its not a stupid question. They do have a couple scholarships that help for sure....if u win them. I applied for one, and didnt win it. And the ones that i saw were only for a total of $2000. The tuition alone, for a year and a half, was $34,000, last i checked. Which doesnt include living expenses.... and i don't want to be working a part time while im there, so i can focus completely on my studies. BUT....yah, there are definately scholarships available.

  • @etdrum thanks for replying man i appreciate it.

  • Dude, save your money!!! Get in the studio make yourself a demo. Pass it around to every musician you know. Hang out where the working musicians hang. Get you name out there, you are already as good as most of the people coming out of that school. Find a private teacher that can really burn to show some ridiculous stuff to work on.

  • did you get accepted. i want to go but idk how picky they are about who they let in.

  • i wanna go there tooo.. but seems kinda difficult.. with money and all

  • it can be a lil expensive. thats why i didnt end up going.

  • dope sir i checked this out a while ago when do you start im starting next week

  • I'm not starting anytime soon. I can't afford it right now. Good luck to you, though.

  • You don't need to go to M.I!

  • hahaha. thanx.

  • You sound really good kidd... Think about Privte lessons instead of going through the full program. You can already play and your going down a good path.. You wanna have your own style, not some1 making you into a certain sounding drummer. do you read?

  • Thanx. Not a good sight reader, but i know how to read music. Just need to practice reading. I mainly wanted to do a program there because of the networking with teachers, and their exclusive audition opportunities.

  • good pocket, cool fills n great sound.

  • I can only imagine how expensive this school mus be

  • Buen Feeling Carnal. Buenas Dinamicas. Divertido haha

  • oh i feel ya.....well keep it up bro u can buy ur own school with that kind of talent

  • playa why u aint go to mi bro wats up...u too good!!!!

  • hahaha. I cant afford it.

  • You have a really nice feel man, I hope u get in to MI.

  • Thanx. I got in, but didnt end up going.

  • Nice work bro... what drum set do you use in this video?

  • Thanx. Its a dw kit. 10, 12, 14 toms, and 20 kick.

  • Sick man. I just graduated from MI and I'm San Jose. Nice playing! Good luck.

  • Thanx. What bands do u play with?

  • a band called Doll Patrol and I played a little bit at Disneyland lol.. good money.

  • ok thanks!!

  • what are the levels for? im thinkin bout going to MI when i gradute high school

  • Love it man, I'm trying to head in this sort of direction. Check out my video :)

  • soooo sexy!!

  • Very cool! Nice job! Congratulations, Man!

  • very groovy and tight. fantastic work.

  • Thanx.

  • Dude, you just won a fan :)

  • Thanx a lot for the support.

  • Great drumming! Hey, I'm thinking of buying a dumkit to learn how to play, and I wanted to ask for advice. Thannks. How long have you been playin?

  • Thanx. I've been playing about 18 years.

  • Hey I recentley discovered MI froma freinds dad who use to work there. I'm interested in the drum programs there, I mean over all MI just seems like an amazing school. I'm wondering though how expensive is it to join there? I checked their website and no tuition costs were displayed or anything.

  • To apply, it's $100, but u send in $300 at the same time for materials. Im sure each program is different, but the tuition for the AA program, which runs for a year and a half, is $34,000.

  • Yeah I heard it was all different but I just wanted more of an idea. But thank you that helps me out.

What exactlly is the AA program though?

  • It's an Associates of Arts Degree, and i personally liked it more than the BA program because you get to take more performance classes. Those performance classes get cut out in the BA program to make room for the GE classes required.

  • Really now? Well yeah my main thing was Music Performance so maybe I should look into the AA program. I'm taking other math, english classes out in Riverside so I think that should transfer over so I can just get into the music portion unless they don;t allow transfer credit.

  • they do allow transfers, but i dont know exactly what coarses. you should definitely get in contact with a counselor, and they can better inform you of how to do that.

  • I ment transfer credit for my other school courses.

Yeah that deffinatlley is a good idea. Thank you for your help thus far.

  • do you have to audition to get in because i"am not that good

  • The audition is not necessarily to accept you. Its mainly to see what level you are at. They need to know that u can at least play a little bit. Then they do a proper placement exam to see where they need to place you. From what I've heard, they start very basic.

  • Hey, did you just do the tour with Gavin Castleton? If so, I met you in Boston. Either way, you are a great drummer.

  • yah, i did. Thanx a lot.

  • i just shit my pants. wow.

  • haha. Thanx for watching.

  • wow nice playing!!!!! by the way im wondering if you need to be at least that good to enter the school??????? i mean i know that knowing anything or being a begginer woun't help but man thats way too advance

  • From what i've heard and seen at the open house i went to, they take pretty much anyone, unless you're completely new to music. They have really basic classes, and plus they give u a placement test at the beginning to put you where u need to start.

  • Great performance, thank you for uploading it.

  • wow man excellent work you've really got the rhythm in your hands!!! keep up that good work!!

  • How Old are you?

  • Im 23 yrs old.

  • Nice!

  • Man, your kit sounds amazing. What kind of shells are those? VLT? Or does that sound mostly come from the mixing and mastering?

  • thanx. its a regular dw collectors. dont know exactly specifics of shells. i do think a lot of is the micing and mixing.

  • man,you dont need to know nothing about drum construction, because lots of them who knows everything about that, dont know shit about playing drums! This is one of the best drumming videos I saw and it goes to my favorites!thanks for inspiration!

  • thanx a lot. glad i can inspire you. its greatly appreciated.

  • Love your playing, might have a couple of those moves too!

  • Hi,

    did you enter MI?

  • ..was this the video they watched, or did you redo it for youtube?

  • At the time i recorded this, i wasn't sure if it was supposed to be video or just audio....so i did both. They ended up just hearing this, not watching it.

  • Awesome!!!!

    Very cool and complex sound!!!

  • Thanx a lot.

  • wow!! excellent playing

  • hey everybody !

i'm very interested in going to MI

but do you need to audition to go there ???

    please answer

  • An audition is part of the admissions app.

  • sick man. the over the bar line stuff was nasty, right in the pocket. the offbeat accents on the high hat and the bell of the ride were a funk party. keep it up

  • this is really good man. I got accepted into GIT for fall 2010 so I'll see you there!!

  • Dude sooo good

  • wait u have to audition to go there?

  • so tight dude!! love how you start off simple and set the tone and solo around the kit and using off beat stuff but you always come back to the time sig. :)

and im thinking about going to MI.

    for bass though ;P

  • Thanx a lot! I haven't started MI yet, but i still would recommend it. Its a great school from what if seen and heard.

  • when do you think you'll go? i'm thinking about GIT in fall 2010 but maybe later on, it's pretty expensive :S

  • Imma try again for Spring of 2010

  • awesome, good luck man!

  • Cheaper than most other music colleges... *cough* berklee *cough*

  • hahah i have an acquaintance who's attending berklee.

he was the biggest douche ever.

  • soooo good

  • thanx.
