listen, cedric's voice is fine for what he wants...thats like criticising the mars volta for having songs that r too long. later, especially after quitting hard drugs, cedric's tastes changed and his performances are "better." he's not singing "bad" cuz he's a horrible singer, that's his taste, that's his style, its what he wants, he and omar are most influenced by punk rock. FUCK, have any of u EVER heard the germs? the 80s-90s LA punk rock scene had no real notes sung at all.
Easily the worst performance I've seen of this song. I really enjoy TMV but this was brutal. Energy on stage is fantastic but when you put more effort into twitching around and swinging the mic then you're losing sight of what matters most and that's the music. I've seen bands tear it up on stage and others just sit there and play. In both cases, if the music sounds great, I love the show. Cedric does have a tendency to get lost in theatrics and this is good example of that.
I got the DVD for this, but the quality isn't very much better except for the visual quality. If anyone has a link to this same performance with better sound quality, let me know and I'll be your psychic best friend lol

Have you listened to the album? I'm assuming not based off your answer, mainly because the songs on the albums are so complex/complicated as far as syn keyboards, layout of guitar, pretty much everything. Impossible to replicate live. Bands have good nights, and off nights. The Mars Volta will sound nothing like the albums when you see them live, you just have to get use to the improvisation.

It doesn't matter, this video was filmed after the album was recorded; so it still accurately shows that Cedric can't sing live at all, but somehow manages to pull it off in the studio.
When it was filmed doesn't matter, if it was filmed between recordings of him singing good, it implies that he cannot sing by himself when it comes down to it.
Plus he always looks hella stoned, I don't even think he knows that he's on a stage.
The point is that he can clearly sing by himself onstage today. Although I would agree that he still doesn't sound as good as he does in the studio, and probably never will, he does a pretty good job of it. Go watch a more recent video if you want an idea of what he can do onstage. I do think his peak was 2005 though.

It doesn't matter, this video was filmed after the album was recorded; so it still accurately shows that Cedric can't sing live at all, but somehow manages to pull it off in the studio.
When it was filmed doesn't matter, if it was filmed between recordings of him singing good, it implies that he cannot sing by himself when it comes down to it.
Plus he always looks hella stoned, I don't even think he knows that he's on a stage.

The point is that he can clearly sing by himself onstage today. Although I would agree that he still doesn't sound as good as he does in the studio, and probably never will, he does a pretty good job of it. Go watch a more recent video if you want an idea of what he can do onstage. I do think his peak was 2005 though.
And yeah, there's no way he was sober.

Bleh, I love TMV but they were total shit live when they started out. They're amazing now live though. I'd like to see them preform some of their old stuff now that Cedric has more control over his voice for TMV songs.

He fucking admitted to playing better performances nowadays thanks to stopping acid. He said in am interview all about how his friend's death from overdosing influenced him to stop and how he feels he is doing a much better job nowadays. Acid affected him badly in live performances, just look the shit up.
