Actually everything you do in all games wasp planed by kain to finally restore balance , but the history is so hard to understand and i hadn t played blood omen 1 and only half of 2 neither soulreaver 2 but i did play defiance. The game is full of time travel paradoxes betrayal as you said, this saga is pretty awesome . If the creators wrote a book about it it would win servera lawards for sure

Its THE best plot i've ever encountered in any game/movie/book/you name it. Understanding it fully is life-changing experience. Just imagine 5 long games, 3 different timelines and there is only one inconsistency that i know off in the entire series (but ive seen some viable explanations for it). It's so fuckin bad-ass that it makes Bible's plot look pale in comparison xD
Blood omen and soul reaver are awesome ... the parts that follow completely ruin the continuity. Möbius and that green vampire guy die for the second time, which makes no sense.
On the other hand, dark omen only makes sense if you choose not to sacrifice yourself. Not only since that is a prerequisite for the rest of the series, but also because you actually have to fight the future Kain in the game.

Agreed. The pinnacle of a thinking man's game, never surpassed in my experience. I wish, as you mentioned that they'd make a film out of this, and if I ever became a filmmaker, this would be my single most precious project. Gripping, compelling, at times confusing, but only because we as men, as mortals, have no means of grasping the complexities of the issues at play here. And by this I mean that it deals with questions that have puzzled men for centuries....
I've pretty much quite playing video games, because they tend to unnecessarily absorb time that could be spent doing something constructive, like READING (an activity I wish more YouTubers participated in), or seeing the Sun, but if they continued to produce games like this series, I wouldn't hesitate to pick them back up. feel free to call me as an idiot but this game is the best game that've ever created by the hands of a mankind for me. I'm 24 and played so many new/old games but none of them had this strong storyline and athmosphere which makes you a total addict. all those gylphs, enemies, conversations, world shifts, mazes... everybody should play this game at least once in their life.
I also began with Soul Reaver, but was very impressed when I played the first Blood Omen game. It suffered from a number of technical hiccups because it was a first generation Playstation One game, but the writing for the plot was just wonderful. I think some of the people that worked on it went on to make Eternal Darkness for the Gamecube, as some of the influences from Blood Omen are apparent there.
Man I always wanted to get Soul Reaver, but I just never got around to it.I need to seek it out and find it. Or at least get the later ones that I can find like Defiance and Blood Omen 2. Great video, you've gotten my interest up in this game again.
Ex-nay on Blood Omen 2. Trust me. That game is utter garbage. Defiance was good for the plot, but the gameplay was tedious and not at all creative--and they even recycled the entire soundtrack from Soul Reaver.
Hey now, there were some new tracks in there, and some remix to original music, and Blood Omen 2 is worth pickin' up if theres large interest in the series.
... Though, Soul Reaver has sweet music anyways, no biggy.

You can actually can get this for around 7$ plus minor tax if you happend to have a ps 3 and a U.S. PSN account.... Its pretty good deal... I got it myself because I only have one copy for my psone in disc form so if it got lost or no longer worked I would be screwed to play it again....for 7$ and its a good deal for a DLC ps one classic download game...
This video definitely makes the series justice so far. If you ever decide to do a follow-up you should put stress in the moral ambiguity that starts sorrounding the characters and perhaps, put that al bundy quote again and show what Raziel does to Kain in Legacy of kain: defiance :P

Kain saw all this comming in Mobius's lair, the mirrors of time or whatever it where named. it showed him that he had to banish Raziel, and then Kain took the time maxhine and traveled forward some years enough for Raziel to be reanimated. he knew that Raziel was the key to kill the old god and bring balance back to Nosgoth...

VAE VICTUS, An awesome video that quickly clarifies the brillance that is Legacy of Kain. Probably the most convuluted series of games i have ever played, even on a level that rivals the Metal Gear Solid storyline. I just loved this entire series. He forgot to mention (or didnt have to time to mention) that it involves time travel and an ancient war between two ancient races across history.
Oh I hope you do more installments in this retrospective series on the Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver games. Your commentary is hilarious and enjoyable to hardcore fans and novices alike. It's nice to see that this series is finally starting to get some recognition.
I would LOVE to see a CGI movie utilizing the VAs from the games (other than Tony Jay, R.I.P. my good fellow).
Loved that someone finally got around to actually ackowledging this great series.
I think you really need to touch on Blood Omen and its sequel before you get to Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance, though.
You probably already know this, but you can get all the cinemas for Blood Omen without playing through it with this code while paused: Up, Right, Square, Circle, Up, Down, Right, Left.

I agree, the opening cinematic to Soul Reaver is probably one of my favourite openings in any game ever. Even more than Final Fantasy's beautiful cutscenes.
U didn`t knew this even playing the game? Kane is selfish and despotic. When one of his servant was blessed to evolve higher than Kain and suppras him so he got mad. He betraid Raziel and destroyed him.
My suggestion for part II were.. you could talk about the bossfights, the different areas and their population ( i.e. the Zephonim jumping at one's back in the Silent Cathedral are really mentionable :) lovely scary moments), the sidequests (the magic glyphs..) and .. yes, maybe a bit more of your proper storytelling.
Cannot wait for the second Part. I really enjoyed watching.
But really, you did a nice job. The summarization of the story from the beginning is good, the comedy parts are funny, everything appears to be very fitting .. and I share your experience. Soul Reaver has also been my first game of the LoK-Series.

I have played the lok series since the psx.
and i think that a true GAMER and FAN of the series would acknowledge that while the STORY WAS great some of the gameplay was boring and tedious

Oh I hope you do more installments in this retrospective series on the Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver games. Your commentary is hilarious and enjoyable to hardcore fans and novices alike. It's nice to see that this series is finally starting to get some recognition.
I would LOVE to see a CGI movie utilizing the VAs from the games (other than Tony Jay, R.I.P. my good fellow).

Loved that someone finally got around to actually ackowledging this great series.
I think you really need to touch on Blood Omen and its sequel before you get to Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance, though.
You probably already know this, but you can get all the cinemas for Blood Omen without playing through it with this code while paused: Up, Right, Square, Circle, Up, Down, Right, Left.
Can't wait for the 2nd part. Definitely try to explain the time parodoxes. Good luck. ;)

I agree, the opening cinematic to Soul Reaver is probably one of my favourite openings in any game ever. Even more than Final Fantasy's beautiful cutscenes.

U didn`t knew this even playing the game? Kane is selfish and despotic. When one of his servant was blessed to evolve higher than Kain and suppras him so he got mad. He betraid Raziel and destroyed him.

My suggestion for part II were.. you could talk about the bossfights, the different areas and their population ( i.e. the Zephonim jumping at one's back in the Silent Cathedral are really mentionable :) lovely scary moments), the sidequests (the magic glyphs..) and .. yes, maybe a bit more of your proper storytelling.
Cannot wait for the second Part. I really enjoyed watching.

I really like your style, and the review is great. You're like David Cross in pretty much every concievable way. It's just that the right channel on my speaker system doesn't work, so I wasn't able to hear any of the in game music or voice acting if there was any.

very nicely done so far. i love the series (might be one of the biggest fans down here in Hungary) things pop into mind to be noted in part2:
The difference between the spectral and material world
The way humans treat you in the game, depending on your acts (kill/not kill humans)
The mass of not vital but cool extra powers you can get if you care to look around in the world.
And of course more story. This series is all about the story...
