25th November 1989 is the date of this Mass. On 9th November 1989 the Wall of Berlin fell. In those days, at the end of November 1989, the velvet revolution of Czechoslovakia, that forced the collapse of the Communist government, was at a crucial point. Finally, on December 10 the first non-Communist government in Czechoslovakia since 1948 was appointed. That gives a particular meaning to the applause of the people in the cathedral when appeared the heroic bishop Tomasek.

the organ impro is just absolutely amazing! Would it have been Otto Novak playing at this time?? He used to be cathedral organist in the late 80's??

Otto Novak might play from time to time, but no longer as a cathedral organist. He became organist emeritus at 1993 or so.
