Can't beat a bit of classy costume drama. More quality actors than you could poke a stick at. I used to look forward to watching this. I'm sure it was on Sundays. This was back when you could say to your school friends " I'll be the Cavaliers and you be the Roundheads ". Then using a garden cane, half a coconut and some epoxy resin make your own rapier.
I was only about 10 when this series came out and I just loved it even visited the place it was filmed with my parents at the time. I think everybody has forgot what a great series this was and how popular it was at the time. It took me ages to get it on dvd and its just a shame that it seems to never get repeated on TV. There should be a website and fan club for this great series. I must admit Tom lacey was just the best in it !!!
You should have called up the entire army of Aldenburg, Knyphausen and Varel to your assistance in the Civil War, even if that's but a few dozen soldiers!
The first clip also shows the best mount steps, slip/stumble, recovery, manly stance and enter doorway combination ever committed to film.
