I don't agree with what he says...I don't think it should be considered "weak sauce" to want to take a break from work/life because you've been heart broken. Some people have mutual break ups...and some people have really horrible, HORRIBLE break ups.

I think it WOULD be best to just let people take a short break so they can sort out their feelings, cause if you force them to work they're just gonna be a sad wreck and...not very fun to have around. Odds are it won't end well...

Their economy is great enough to handle such a thing. Also, peer pressure in Japan is very strict and workers are likely not to abuse that privilege. Sometimes those workers work long hours and end up having to catch the last train back home or have to miss going home entirely and sleeping elsewhere. If they are in the service industry, they are expected to hold a very strict standard of enthusiastic service, so depressing feelings can hurt the job. American service standards are much lower.
