Ashley picked the right guy. Ben is imature and not ready to consider someone elses feelings first. JP was just as in love as Ben, but he didn't assume her feelings even though he was in just as much peril of being rejected. He had also been in love and hurt badly but he put himself on the line vulnerably, respectfully and maturely. If Ben really considered her feelings and how difficult her situation was, he would have acted with more dignity, and stopped to listen when she tried to tell him.
