I'm listening to your fine work Mr Bufford, whilst watching the UK elections live. And can I just say, your playing of truth, well out shines the politicans' lies. Many thanks.
where could I learn about that chords and sounds that make so emotional the gospel and soul music? I feel that, I almost cry when I heard Billy Preston. I´m from Argentina, and I know that you create that music. I really wanna play like this, I try. That music that comes from soul, not from mind.
God really blessed you! Im ready to jump off my couch and jus start shouting. Im sitting in here singing my heart out, jus tryna match how you playing. God blessed me with a voice to sing, but I wish he would have blessed with anoitned fingers to play like that. My musician at church, she plays that song jus like that. Except, tha piano is her specialty. She will play that song on tha organ. She get to feeling good, then shell move down tt he piano and finishe it off. Be Blessed
Thanks' but our GOD is the one who is so amazing! To know he came down here to this nasty earth as a man called Jesus Christ to love us and shed His blood to give us his great grace is awesome!!!
I heard his choir sing this song on direct tv xmradio last nite...and just about went in...in the middle of my living room......Jesus!!!!! I mean the tears were flowin......We jus don't do the songs that brought us through any justice........
Yes Doc' I miss that sound big time! Nix used to come here with his choir in concert and save this song for last. He would play this intro about 6 times over and it be would over in that big church! Rene would come to the mic after the choir open up and that would ust put the 'top on it!!!' I wish I could play for a church that sung this material with the anointing to go with it!
that is what i call the hammond sound. and i know a hammond organ when i here one. i'm only 13 but that sounds so good. i have a organ but its not a hammond. i'd rather a B3 in stead of a C3.
Cde ...now, I already have the orange St James cover 'best of' CD of him with the Amazing Grace' on it. There is another one out there I don't have. Do u have any of him live on cassette to CD? What ever happen to those young dudes who grew up in his church playing organ just like him? -the young dude who played on the 'Come unto Jesus' album while Nix was talking to the aud.
da...usually Mondays are the best mornings I can drive across town to my quiet church with my video camera (If I have a new video tape to use and get my 'retired-home loving-fat butt' up and out to do it! ...lol') What hymns would you like to see played?
I have heard some things on many out there but I don't really know. Just keep on praying for the main people of God in the 'line-light'. Satan is trying to win this thing but he's not!!!
Wow. But thank you for turning me on to Reverend Charles Nicks. No matter what his personal life was, he had a great style. ANd Im glad your keeping it alive.
I just Downloaded CHarles Nicks AMAZING grace from ITUNES! I cant BELIEVE HOW IDENTICAL YOUR VERSION and his is! OMG! Can you do "All of MY HELP" like charles nicks? It had me in tears!
St. James is now called Shield of Faith Ministries. From what I have been told, the name of the church was changed to give the church a new identity. Supposedly Charles Nicks died of Aids due to homosexual relationships. Dont quote me on this. The name of the church was changed to rebuild the churches reputation from being a church affected by homosexuality.
Thanks for the reply. Any hymn that again that would be conducive to this style of playing. Some suggestions off the cuff.....OLD RUGGED CROSS, IS YOUR ALL ON THE ALTAR, AT THE CROSS, I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR, DRAW ME NEARER, SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER, ETC.... THANKS!!
tHE THING ABOUT bILLY pRESTON WAS HE WAS THE MOST RECORDED HAMMOND ORGANIST IN HIS DAY AND NOT NESESSARILY THE BEST. aLFRED bOLDEN WAS CONSIDERED THE BEST GOSPEL ORGANIST BY MANY IN THE INDUSTRY.
Yeah tb..Billy was a bad boy in his day, Alfred was more smooth with his style. Cd..yeah always start from the beginning with the piano then work your way up to the organ and its foot pedals. Then u can think about the pedals and not learning chords all at the same time.
After so long u start to get into different styles and feels which is all good. Twinky plays one way, Whitfield,Preston, Bolden, Nix, Lupper, Tyson, Ru. S. they are all in a different world each. I never heard Twinky live in rare form so if u have any tapes/CD's please send me one I would love to hear it. From her 'High Place solo CD the woman is awesome!
How long does it take to learn how to play the organ good for a church service if your a beginner on average? I know people adapt better than others...just want to know what you think.
cde...It depends on your ear. We, lol' bust out singing in any key so u have to learn how to play in every key at least the basic chords to carry them through. U start out by playing along with somebody who plays good and keep your ear open to how it's done. Play for your small services by yourself which can be good practice towards the big services. Hang in there!
LOL im baptist...but we know the pentecostal church sings in EVERY key...lol. We a little more laid back. Is it good to learn the organ by a trained person who probably cant play gospel?
Ezra, I'm glad the lord is still blessing you, The man of many talents I also remember art I'm from grade school #41. I remember the ambassadors(PENECOSTAL). MAY JESUS CHRIST CONTINUE TO SHINE THROUGH YOUR MANY TALENTS. BE BLESSED
I listen to this everyday..my mother loves this version...sounds like CL franklin's organist when he sings father I stretch my hands to thee before each sermon...
I have a recording on vinyl of Charles Nix playing a solo of this very same song on a James Cleveland and the GMWA concert that was either in Detroit or LA sometime around 1972. Your idea of a Nix solo was pretty close. I like yours better. Play on.
Man could u send my a copy of that? I would love it! Outside of Craig Tyson locally, Rev. Nix, Alfred Bolden, T. Whit., Ru.S. & Billy Preston was my organ idols. I spent many of my young days with my big headphones just listening their intros alone! let me know' ebufford@sbcglobal 'dot' net
Man it's nobody like the late great Rev. Charles Nix! I would never compare myself to him...he was awesome! I used to rewind all of his intros back and fourth. Yes I would love to enjoy all of him-please do send them. ebufford@sbcglobal net
I dont know man. I heard the Charles Nicks version and Ezra's version is good but Nicks played his own version better to me! Sorry Ezra lol. But you are very close to it!
I'm thinking about one day just doing a audio of his organ/choir Amazing Grace on here with the pic of the orange cover thru out the song. -just so the young musicans can hear how it's suppose to sound when the time comes to play for the older saints.
You could play the song just like him Ezra. You just was trying to play it by what you can remember. But you definitely are skilled enough to play the exact same thing he played. I am sending those songs to you now by email!
It's amazing how "Detroit" that sounds. Nix may not have been one of my organ heroes, but I certainly had respect for his influence. Most of the organists I've heard in MI sound like either Nix or Twinkie or a combination of both. I liked how you were doing Nix but still managed to stick some ebufford in it.
Yes I do, in fact someone had just sent me one of Alfred Bolden's Albums on a cass. Now he was a real smooth playing organist! I use to lay on my floor with those old big headphones when I was a kid and listen to him over and over. lol good old learning days' Thanks

Hi
Praise the Lord.
I´m white and not of your country, but i love the Lord and what he did to me.
The love of a colored stepdaddy he gave to me. No rassist thoughts against me because i´m white he gave him.
Love every man or woman who deserve it.
Every child or animal.
The mountains and sees that God created.
Let´s be brothers and sisters.
God bless you all.
