great video. Facetime is very nice! I succesfully did a facetime call from Tokyo Japan to Eindhoven in the Netherlands.... it was a very good video and audio quality, it works super simple and it is free! Thanks Apple for providing this.

Not Fair, Ipod Touch does FaceTime for free. No Data or Simcard needed. They Pay nothing. But the Iphone 4 has to Pay for the Data usage & Phone Usage. If you take your SimCard out of Phone, Face Time will not work. So Ipod Touch gets Facetime for Free.

Apple's the only one that can pull this off. Apple got criticism from video calling over wifi, but imagine how much more criticism other phone companies like HTC would get if they announced a phone with video calling over wifi only.

@Kimarey Not much given video calling from mobiles before sucked. I think the fact only HTC are doing this over the phone network and Apple are doing it over Wifi is an extremely limited pool of decent video calling implementations.

This feature is not like SMS where anyone can do it anytime at excellent quality. Video calling isn't an essential feature, its a nice-to-have so in that respect why pan Apple because they dont do it the way HTC do?

@chilled99 It's down to the networks allowing it or not rather than Apple choosing to do it one way or another. WiFi is pretty much everywhere these days anyway and if the contract offers are anything like here in the UK, you get free unlimited access to hotspots run by or in partnership with the network you're with. When networks can handle the extra bandwidth we should see it over the 3G network too (or whatever they're using at the time).
