@1993MovieMan I assure you I've read the books MANY times. And I wasn't saying Dumbledore didn't know Tom's potential for evil. He just didn't do anything to prevent it.

I was referring to, when after the dive into the Pensieve, Harry asks Dumbledore if he knew then Tom would grow up to be Lord Voldemort, did he knew he'd just met the darkest wizard.

Dumbledore said "No", which to me, seems pretty ridiculous for a man who is apparently very knowledgeable on everything. He underestimated him.

I said he's apparently very knowledgeable on everything. That has nothing to do with the Purity of his blood. It has to do with the fact he's a wise, old man who has personal experience with the Dark Arts.

It's all more of a psychological thing. Looking at a young Tom Riddle, there's obviously something dark, and not quite right.

He also had noone to guide him in the right direction because he was raised by muggles who probably shunned him because he was different and you can tell by Tom's reaction to Dumbledore shows that he was already wary of strangers. A weariness that was amplified even more in the book.

Frank Dillane (Tom Riddle - age 16) looks perfect to play Damien Thorn in a new remake of Damien Omen II xD.

Anyway, both Tom Riddles are great but Tom - age 16 is so much better that the other one from Chamber Of Secrets.

You got the whole concept wrong. Merope Gaunt was a witch who loved a rich Muggle, Tom Riddle, so she used a love spell on him. 'Marvolo' comes from his mother's father Marvolo Gaunt.

I think that Richard harris makes a good Dumbledore for the first half of the series, while Micheal Gambon makes a good Dumbledore for the second half. In the second half, we see the more serious side to him, not just the wonderous 'magical' side, but the more powerful and commanding side.

Both are good, I actually think that Gambon will be really good for book 7. Don't forget his 'flashback' scenes with Snape in book 7, he is definately not soft there...

On the Dumbledore issue, I have to say I like the old Dumbledore's (Richard Harris) voice. Micheal Gambon just plays a less gentle Dumbledore that I don't really like. I mean, he moves well and all, but he just seems a bit too harsh to me.

I felt the same way at first. But Gambon makes the Dumbledore character more serious which is what I like. The old Dumbledore made it seem light and fluffy and almost cheezy and I hated that. The new one is much better suited for the latter half of the series...where people start to die and stuff

I mean, Gambon doesn't have what Dumbledore is supposed to have, which is sort of light with the twinkling eyes and strange phrases, but strong at the same time with his brilliance and captivating words. Both of us are right in different ways. Richard Harris did have that twinkle in his eye as if he was always hiding a secret or a private joke between them. But Gambon suits it better personally for me...I guess it just comes down to which facet of Dumbledore's personality you preferred.

Michael Gambons portrayal of Dumbledore doesn't match Rowlings description of him in the books. Gambon has made Dumbledore sound and look ordinary: he acts like an idiot, and doesn't appear as clever, nor intelligent/wise, not to mention magical.

The first actor was perfect. Dumbledore doesn't run around like a monkey. He's always calm, as though he's mentally many steps ahead of his enemy. Perfect example is the battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore in HP, OFP!
