This stunt was probably unintentional in the very first game.

However it has remained in every other one. and SMB3 is where nintendo first embraced infinite lives, and made sure there were ways to get them.

In the arcade version, they DID nerf the trick and had you only get one extra life per attempt.

It was intended that if you kill enough turtles with the same shell or stomp enough without hitting the ground, that you get a one up.

But it wasn't supposed to be possible to keep stomping the same shell without hitting the ground.

@krsforever Yeah they removed all repeatable ways of guaranteeing an extra life to stop peopel from monopolizing.

But in the nes original there were plenty of places to get a single one up from kicking a turtlle shell, but nowhere you could get more. If it were deliberately programmed in it would be easier to do, and the game wouldn't get confused when you went over 128 lives, or even 10.

when i need lives, i always just go to 1-1 and get the giant muschroom, ill just wait till the last second to get it, then i run. alwayys gives me 5 lives, and I go through the map :)

This is not a glitch since the developers and makers of Super Mario bros even told people how to do this trick in the old magazine called "nintendo power". Nintendo already knew about this since the super mario on the NES

@zackozoo Yeah, i agree with you. It's not really a glitch considering that getting 1-UP's for attacking multiple enemies is part of the game. The only difference with this is that you're tricking the game into thinking you're attacking multiple enemies.

There is a much easier way to get lives.Go to lvl 1-4, when u find the red turtle, next to the wall of bricks, take his shell and run with it to the end. Right near the end there is a tube that goombas come out of. Throw the shell and let it slide around inside that pit. eventually you will get a one up, and soon you'll get loads of them.

Talking about Mega Mario, it can also instantly beat ANY

boss, it be Monty Mole or Bowsy.

The fire flower works with everyone but monty mole and
