I think this illustrates why Stewie Griffin in Family Guy when seeing that the family that adoptted him had adopted kids of different ethnic groups from around the world reacted by saying "My god, I've been adopted by a Benetton ad".
For all you people who view 80s Benetton ads as racist... you need to do your research before you spew your ignorance. If you did, you'd note that almost all adverts were white and blond. Not hating just saying. Apart from Naomi the token ethnic super model, there were NO ethnic faces anywhere. Growing up as an Asian-American teenager in the 80s.... Bennetton's message was EMBRACE DIVERSITY. That all colors and styles can be worn by all people. I WISH some companies would take up that tourch!
@Shverina Do they embrace diversity because they style the lil black babies hair in the shape of devil horns rather than dred locks, a fade, corn rows, etc...???? Or is it because they still style the lil white baby as an angel??
@dcagn001 I can understand how that ad was offensive & in bad taste. But that was one in so many hundreds where ethnic people were presented with taste in themes of cross-culteralism. Yes, they did dress people in their native costumes (some would call that racists) but they also switched that up frequently so that caucasians wore african native costumes, africans wearing chinese, etc. Also, Bennetton IS a clothing brand... they ARE kinda known for doing racey-controversial ads for publicity..
@redfoxbennaton 80s advertisers often made them a little out of proportion. But then they were less concerned about making an offense because people were far less uptight about things back then then they are now. It seems like people are more easily offended now. Just look at the arguement going on with my miller light drill instructor commercial. People are getting all bent out of shape about it. But back in 1985 people just saw the product and that was it.
do you have a version with better audio. The Benetton Music was the best back in the day. I still have my Benetton Gear from the 80's and 90's I also have alot of the ads!

@Shverina You are right. People are way too cranky and uptight these days. It seems as if people have to knock everything. Thanks :)

I remember this gay commercial
oldstock1607 1 year ago
@oldstock1607 Why is it 'gay'?
fawdown 1 year ago
@fawdown because the guy from 0:6 to 0:8 is no more of an Australian Aborigine than I am.
oldstock1607 1 year ago
@oldstock1607 No he isn't. It was probably a cost issue. But I had no idea he was gay.
fawdown 1 year ago
@fawdown Oh, totally. F-L-A-M-E-R.
oldstock1607 1 year ago
@oldstock1607 Is that such a big deal?
fawdown 1 year ago
@fawdown the fact that he's a white kid painted to look like an Aborigine? or the fact that he's a flamer?

Btw does anyone know the name of the song used in this ad? Thanks
PotholesInMyLawn 4 years ago
The tape source is 21 years old and has been played hundreds of times. It took a lot of coaxing to get it to play even that good.
fawdown 4 years ago
No problem... Thanks for posting. I may write benetton to find out what song that was. Hopfully they will post their old adds. Thanks again!
