No, you don't need a cranked up amp.. just enough overdrive (but don't overdo it!). Then you should be fine. Something like a tubescreamer would help though, works real good with harmonics.
@Toccor there are more than one kind of harmonics. But in general harmonics are notes that are contained in another note. You can hear them if you get close to the amp if it is on high volume. If you leave the note sustain for a bit you can hear it's harmonic. You can also make an artificial harmonic but i can't really explain in words you have to have someone show you. Finally there are specific frets where when you touch the string without actually fretting it and pick it you can hear harmonic
Great, your tone is really close to Matt's, and that's difficult because I think he's using a Fuzz Factory to get it. I have a couple of questions: Did you change the 6th string gauge? What string gauge is that? and the last one, Do you play the harmonics on the 6th string? I couldn't see that.
Thanks! That's really a compliment, 'couse thats a hard thing to accomplish. I just got myself a FuzzFactory too like a week ago, so maybe i can search for even a closer tone and post it again.
Anwsers: Nope, this is just a standerd 0.010 gauge (Elixers). Just the E string all the way down to A. The harmonics are played on the 5th string, the normal A one, the heavy sounding notes before that is the 6th string.
that is some seriously amazing playing. i love this song as well :D. the only thing i don't get is the harmonics :( im trying to do what you said but it doesnt sound anything like it. got any tips?
The first one you can trigger between the 2nd and 3rd fret. The second harmonic is almost above the 3rd fret. And i don't know if you're really fretting the notes, but you only have to touch the string, don't push it against the fret, otherwise you wil just play a note and you won't get a harmonic.
please man tell me how do you do that harmonics. is it just distortion and harmonics? i just don't understand. when i'm doing harmonics i can't hear anything. shit.
you tuned the E string down all the way to A?! I'm surprised you weren't getting some serious buzzing, or else I just coudn't hear it under the effects.
Yep, the E string is tuned all the way down to A. The string was kinda floppy yes, but especialy when you plug in in the amp, you don't really hear the frett buzz. And the only "effect" i'm using is overdrive.
With the last part of my reply I ment that i didn't have any kind of effect, and if I would have them, that I would barely use them, sorry for my kind of bad english :P
nice. are you playing through the a twintone head or combo? (if it's the head, what type of cab do you use with it). also, the distorted parts, is that purely the koch's drive channel or are you using anything else (pedals etc) to drive the amp. thanks
Thanks for commenting :) It's the Twintone combo, the first version of it (the one with just two channals, and it doesn't have switchable reverb). And there's a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker inside of it. It's purely the amp with the guitar, dan't have them, and barely would use them :)
de intro is echt frustrerend manxD
moest jij ook eerst een flinke tijd oefenen om dat geluid te maken?? grt;)

@Co0kieDealerr Intro valt idd reuze mee! Je moet alleen goed aanvoelen waar je je vinger er zacht oplegt, dan komt het vanzelf =]

how do you get the harmonics so clear? i have the same guitar btw. do you just need it really loud?
rapeyadog 1 year ago
It's a mix of the normal a-string, low a-string (normaly e string) and harmonics on the normal a-string!

what is an harmonic ?
Toccor 2 years ago
places on the strings where it makes a kinda high pitch sound but only touching the string not pressing down on the fret
