I agree with you 702CitY, music shouldn't change it should have some real meaning to it. I mean people get tired of listening to a song talking bout let me do you or I got what you need. I mean it get old after a while. Jeremih is wack for real. I mean I ain't like none of his music. The only reason why anyone pay attention to him is because he look good. The Dream is alright when he collaborating with someone. Any artist that has to use auto tune is lame. 90's music will always be the best.
Jeremih makes music for adults though. The-Dream collaborates on dumb songs. Lloyd makes songs for adults too. Back then the music was for everybody, but realize there are artists for just about everybody now-a-days. Taylor Swift & Justin Bieber for teens. Chris Brown for young adults. Etc...

Oh 702CitY, you are spot on with your comment!!! Well my fellow producers out there, my artists out there.. time to start making real music. You don't need a broke ass A&R or a big time record company. A&R's are all being laid off like GM workers. The future is now. Record Companies are broke. This is the closest that artists and producers have at a level playing field. I'm here in LA In the studios with these cats, they'll tell you the same thing. Make good music and it will be heard
R&B is dead if not it's on life support. What they call R&B now is so manufactured that it's a joke. Real R&B made you feel a certain way or made you remember stuff. Made you wanna get your love on, sex on or plain freak on. Made you feel sad, happy, mad. What I hear sometimes might be tight but It has no emotion. And it's all about sex. and it's not even clever on how it goes about it.. just ""birthday sex..birthday sex.." are you for real?! That's some Bulshit!

Don't believe the hype, people...R&B hasn't gone anywhere! It's still here.
RnB isnt dead.....it jus lost substance. Trey Songz i see no one mentioned,...is definitely giving it life and Bobby is the next best thing...they sing with emotion and you can feel it, ohh yea just like Ginuwine
lol i love trey songs but hes not giving rnb life..i mean open wide i know you thirsty say ahh? no he changed but i like his music sadly lol and Ginuwine is good
bobby v's special occasion album was the best.. turn the page and anonymous was the best songs ive ever listened too. which means R and B isn't dead yet
I'm not saying music shouldn't change but it should always have real meaning to it. No I'm not talking about the same bull like birthday sex by Jeremiah. The Dream is a joke just like Jeremiah. No fucking soul in their music.
Now a days if you want to be an R&B artist, all you have to do is auto-tone your shit like T-Pain and you're set.
Real music is Boys II Men, Jodeci, Brian McKnight, Baby Face, Jon B, Donnell Jones, etc. Most definitely, 90's music was and is still the best
Amen brother...i believe Lloyd, Trey Songz, Bobby V, J Holiday, and Musiq hold the keys to bring it back...even though Boyz II Men are coming out with some new fresh stuff for 2010!! cant wait
I forgot dat I uploaded that comment..the only change I wanna make to my comment is that 80's music was bomb too. Well I mostly listen to 90's music so that's why I put down that da 90s were da best but we can't leave out the 80's :)
maan I love Bobby. No matter what. I know he sometimes releases some mainstream songs like beep but to errbody that hates on Bobby why don't you listen to "All about you" n then you'll see ma boy got some good old RnB skills!
I don't think R&B or Hip Hop is dead, to me they're both on LIFE SUPPORT and need antidotes, potions and healing capsules and stuff like that, nah jus playin'.
I think R&B in the 1990s was the best "HANDS DOWN!!!"
WHY?, because it always made you cry or put you in the mood for caress, and the rest is your bidness but r&b used to be alot more Satisifying and erotic, it was always about love, but now.... I dont kno u tell me.
(R&B IS DEAD) i feel you two with the comments below, ne-yo chris brown or not real R&B they just want to dance they just call it R&B, but real R&B is Bobby V, Sammie, Mario, Musiq Soulchild, Anthony Hamilton those guys can really can sing. Bobby V Albums be classic .
@mag1708 i understand that you guys say about chris brown, because he is a mainstream act, or was. he's done, but i think he actually had talent. he was a good singer, and dancer, of course not as good as any of the past r&b artists, but still. and ne-yo is really talented. really take time to listen to his music. he's actually great. but nearly everyone else is killing the genre.
I tend to ingore the "New R&B" and just go back to the 90's and early 2000's. You know, songs like "I'm So Into You by Tamia and Fabulous or No Scrubs by TLC and then theres One In A Million by Aaliyah." I'd rather have these songs then the new ones. Sorry if it upsets you, but its my opinion. And I think that there are some artists that try to go back to the old R&B, and I appriciate that.
R&B has lost it though. Radio stations only play those fast beat records from new artists. There are different kinds of R&B. In my opinion, artists like Chris Brown, Neyo, and most all new artists are bringing R&B down. You see them everywhere. They're just focusing on the money that they're records sell. It feels like that theres nothing else. Most of the R&B that we have now is either about sex, drugs, or money. I know that the artists are changing and so are their music...I just hate it.
@chibisasusaku don't hate on ne-yo. he actually has talent. chris brown, while a mainstream act, was also a good singer, but he's done. much better than hi ex-girlfriend rihanna, who's totally fake and has very limited talent.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
READ!! It would be funny if bobby had a baby girl and she grew up and got it on with two dudes and their was a tape out and he saw it and got all made at her like " What the hell is this!!" "How could u do this to me" yelling at her and all that.....and then i would appear and say to him 3's the new 2 bobby... 3's the new 2 and he'd be like "who the hell are u!!" then he'd wake up lmfao.
In all honesty R&B has been practically dead for decades and RAP did the killing. There were 100 "voices" that could have been the next LUTHER that ended up silent. Never got the chance to heard. If I knew what was going to happen to MY music, 30 years ago when I was out partying, I'd cut on all the lights and demand the DJs never play the Sugar Hill Gang and all the others again.
naw man he,s wrong its rap thats going down slowly but rnb still got there head in the game and bobby valentino,s brings out good music to tell you the truth i love all of his songs thas My Boi man
bobby v sayin r&b is dead?!?! who the fuck does he think he is?? nas?? lmfao hahah r&b aint exacly goin ina different direction, not like any of them are tryin to rap, better stay that way too lol
are you dumb...chris brown aint destroying it he bringing it up....with you,,,forever,,gimme that...excuse me miss...run it...check exclusive the album..all hits on there none of the songs are bad...
R&B is not dead. It's just these garbage artists now-a-days trashing the name and hard work put in by legends such as Billie Holliday, Duke Ellington, Patti LaBelle, Barry White, Babyface, Mary J. Blige, Anita Baker. And there are legit artists out there who give real rnb...but they don't get played because of the trash by these stupid hip-hop influenced "artists." SMMFH...
and to be honest out of all the hip hop and r&b groups and solo artist to come out in the 2000s alicia keys is by far the best and one other thing you have artist who enter the music indusrty and say things like mary j blige jodeci TLC boys 2 men r. kelly kieth and other great artist of the 90s inspire them but when you hear their music your like thats a damn lie
exactly LoveTruth86 and ultrafine2009 cause this guy here aint sh*t i could see is he was making good music but his music is damn near leading the genre into the damn fire and antoher thing that i dont is that these interviewers writers and artist know that they all suck and they need to stop bigging them up and tell the damn truth
R&B IS DEAD!!! I agree with Bobby V. Today's r&b is all about sex sex sex and i ain't lyin. Then it all sounds the same. Where are the r&b songs that help relationships, that made you fall in love, that made you want to make love, that made you sad, happy, made you wanna cry. R&B is dead and it aint because of rap its because r&b sucks. Today's r&b makes you wanna fuck fuck fuck. R&B ain't smooth nor mellow anymore.
Actually hip-hop does have a hand because if anyone is paying attention, many hip-hop producers are doing most of the R&B tracks out there. Its like one in the same.
Also, I agree with Bobby Valentino as well but umm...I also agree that he is responsible as well for it. Beep...Beep...Beep is about sex sex sex and its more of the same ringtone music.
Its crazy how people listen to only a couple of a person's songs and judge them based on that criteria. Bobby V has a lot of other "Meaningful" songs he has released. The guy has put out some good songs.....
LoveTruth86 you are sooooo right! I was thinking when I read the title of the video that Bobby is the one holding the smoking gun if r&b is dead, lol.
Precisely, talk about cognitive dissonance. He is just as opportunistic and unoriginal as the rest of the "artists" in the industry. If R&B is dead then he needs to be taken to trial and convicted along with the rest of his posse.
I would be embarassed to make such a statement knowing my role. He probably doesn't listen to his own music.
Haha. As much as some of Bobby V's songs are a guilty pleasure for me I have to agree with you. Vocally and lyrically he's no saviour of the genre! I suppose he's mixing up his good intentions with is results. And that menage-a-trois crap he's spouting here is so sexist. His stuff with Tim and Bob was great, mainly because of their production but he shouldn't delude himself about his role in the demise of the genre.
I totally support his opinion. In a way it is dead all the good artist have either taken a break or they washed up. Artist aren't singing about real love or tribulations. They're makin songs about crap that doesn't make.
in my opinoion, black music in general is dying. we are too concerned with making money and trying to get back the riches stolen from us decades ago that we have lost sight of the true meaning of music. I'm just 16years old and i don't get al this soulja boy nonsense, i mean really 'kiss me thru the fone', is he sang that rubbish to me i would hang up.
ok by black music i mean hip hop and r'n'b i didnt mean to offend anyone. by trying to get back the riches i meant those that was stolen from africa back in the day, again another opinion. i agree, its all to commercial and controlled which means everyone ends up saying and doing the same thing.
I agree with Bobby to a certain degree. Because now a days it's really hard for R&B artist to sale like they used to back in the day. R&B is like the foundation for a lot of music today. Unless your a rapper or a pop artist, you pretty much have to work 10x as hard to sale units. R&B 4 LIFE. =D
Yes but sadly his voice has deteriorated since then and none of his solo songs have that kind of credibility. It's a shame Mista didn't survive as I'm sure they would have had a more worthwhile legacy.
I don't care what anybody says, Trey Songz is the best R&B singer out right now, as far as the men go. His voice is so smooh and his songs are like the kind I liked when I was coming up. They're modern, but he delivers them like back in the day R&B. And he is FINE as hell!!
@keenyens12074 trey i good right now. true but if only the could make him like the old R&B OLD SCHOOL because now its all about sex sex sex and more sex i miss the day when it would make you fall in love help relationships now its just about sex what a shame
Sup guys it's Erica. I see a lotta peeps responding to my interview.. Thank you! =) Remember you can TWITTER me at: @ericaoyoung And of course Bobby's at @bobbybkdreams
R&B is not dead....not with artists like India Arie, Maxwell, Jill Scott, and Raphael Saddiq constantly and consistently putting out good music. Just listen to Maxwell's "Pretty Wings" killing the airwaves.
jill scott is dead an india arie last hit was im ready for love an maxell jus tcame back after 7 years so what that tell u its all dead not like in the 90s that was real music an if u listen to bobby v whole album he is bringin it back its just his singles be wack
ryan leslie is decent, ginuwine gotta new album coming, joe got new album under his new label, which could be like old joe, I just think the new rnb dudes are whack and just copy the origionators like usher etc... I mean J Holiday hahah what a joke lol
I would classify artists like Maxwell, India, Erro etc more as 'soul/R&B' as oppose to plain R&B. In my mind the two genres are distinct, especially now. They may both have evolved from US Gospel but they are two different animals. I don't listen to a lot of contemporary mainstream stuff full stop but from the little I do now I think Mario Barrett has the most accomplished and soulful male vocals (in the traditional sense) of his peers. His material often lets him down unfortunately.
fucking talentless idiot, rnb isnt dead, just the mainstream trash like him, CB, Rihanna etc...are talentless. Last time I checked Ginuwine, Joe, Boyz 2 men, Usher, Musiq are still active!! Bobby V is one of the worst artists, horrific albums
cb is supa wack but i love al lthe others just talked about but none of them dropping anything hot musiq soulchild last album an the new singles is wack usher last good music was 8701 all his new shit stupid boyz 2 men are prolly one of the best groups but admit it they finish joe aint did nuttin an ginuwine his new tracks is kinda alright soo the real good artist not even get played
I respect you opinions, i was merely just trying to show how shit Bobby is, because he is. I dont rate him even bad, more like terrible and unorigional.
I'm no "superstar" but there's no way for this dude to say R&B is dead...seriously... In my personal opinion, it's cats like BV that are ruining the game... What happened to real vocalists? What happened to people w/ RAW talent... There are so many people here on YouTube that AREN'T signed & have more talent than this dude...
But hey, it's just my 2 cents & obviously "sucky singers" are hot just like the ducktail is "back"... Ha!
R&B, HIP-HOP and even RAP never will die, because this not just black music this big afro-american culture....some niggas today do black pop because this WACK music brings the big money!
Remember when R&B artist used to have top 10 hit's and even # 1s on the billboard 100 charts? If R&b is not dying then explain to me why that does not happen anymore?People are so narrow minded when it comes to music these days.

Bobby V Albums be classic .
mag1708 2 years ago 3
@mag1708 i understand that you guys say about chris brown, because he is a mainstream act, or was. he's done, but i think he actually had talent. he was a good singer, and dancer, of course not as good as any of the past r&b artists, but still. and ne-yo is really talented. really take time to listen to his music. he's actually great. but nearly everyone else is killing the genre.
lfigueroa13 1 year ago
I tend to ingore the "New R&B" and just go back to the 90's and early 2000's. You know, songs like "I'm So Into You by Tamia and Fabulous or No Scrubs by TLC and then theres One In A Million by Aaliyah." I'd rather have these songs then the new ones. Sorry if it upsets you, but its my opinion. And I think that there are some artists that try to go back to the old R&B, and I appriciate that.
chibisasusaku 2 years ago
R&B has lost it though. Radio stations only play those fast beat records from new artists. There are different kinds of R&B. In my opinion, artists like Chris Brown, Neyo, and most all new artists are bringing R&B down. You see them everywhere. They're just focusing on the money that they're records sell. It feels like that theres nothing else. Most of the R&B that we have now is either about sex, drugs, or money. I know that the artists are changing and so are their music...I just hate it.
chibisasusaku 2 years ago
@chibisasusaku don't hate on ne-yo. he actually has talent. chris brown, while a mainstream act, was also a good singer, but he's done. much better than hi ex-girlfriend rihanna, who's totally fake and has very limited talent.

"How could u do this to me" yelling at her and all that.....and then i would appear and say to him 3's the new 2 bobby...

R&B is not dead. It's just these garbage artists now-a-days trashing the name and hard work put in by legends such as Billie Holliday, Duke Ellington, Patti LaBelle, Barry White, Babyface, Mary J. Blige, Anita Baker. And there are legit artists out there who give real rnb...but they don't get played because of the trash by these stupid hip-hop influenced "artists." SMMFH...
j2201987 2 years ago
and to be honest out of all the hip hop and r&b groups and solo artist to come out in the 2000s alicia keys is by far the best and one other thing you have artist who enter the music indusrty and say things like mary j blige jodeci TLC boys 2 men r. kelly kieth and other great artist of the 90s inspire them but when you hear their music your like thats a damn lie
whathappened2music 2 years ago
exactly LoveTruth86 and ultrafine2009 cause this guy here aint sh*t i could see is he was making good music but his music is damn near leading the genre into the damn fire and antoher thing that i dont is that these interviewers writers and artist know that they all suck and they need to stop bigging them up and tell the damn truth
whathappened2music 2 years ago
R&B IS DEAD!!! I agree with Bobby V. Today's r&b is all about sex sex sex and i ain't lyin. Then it all sounds the same. Where are the r&b songs that help relationships, that made you fall in love, that made you want to make love, that made you sad, happy, made you wanna cry. R&B is dead and it aint because of rap its because r&b sucks. Today's r&b makes you wanna fuck fuck fuck. R&B ain't smooth nor mellow anymore.
BigTDC20 2 years ago 2
Actually hip-hop does have a hand because if anyone is paying attention, many hip-hop producers are doing most of the R&B tracks out there. Its like one in the same.
Also, I agree with Bobby Valentino as well but umm...I also agree that he is responsible as well for it. Beep...Beep...Beep is about sex sex sex and its more of the same ringtone music.
LoveTruth86 2 years ago 12
Its crazy how people listen to only a couple of a person's songs and judge them based on that criteria. Bobby V has a lot of other "Meaningful" songs he has released. The guy has put out some good songs.....

Bobby Valentino, its ironic that you feel that R&B is dead when its shallow and contrived music live yours that is responsible for its demise.
LoveTruth86 2 years ago 2
LoveTruth86 you are sooooo right! I was thinking when I read the title of the video that Bobby is the one holding the smoking gun if r&b is dead, lol.
ultrafine2009 2 years ago
Precisely, talk about cognitive dissonance. He is just as opportunistic and unoriginal as the rest of the "artists" in the industry. If R&B is dead then he needs to be taken to trial and convicted along with the rest of his posse.
I would be embarassed to make such a statement knowing my role. He probably doesn't listen to his own music.
LoveTruth86 2 years ago 3
AcousticUplift 2 years ago 2
True I agree and it's a shame when someone who has the gift of sound cant sell cause ppl want to hear all this RAP and other stuff!

R&B isn't dead. Infact it's the opposite, it's alive
Unlike Hip-Hop it's good.
Kidz24 2 years ago
I totally support his opinion. In a way it is dead all the good artist have either taken a break or they washed up. Artist aren't singing about real love or tribulations. They're makin songs about crap that doesn't make.
carmelchrista 2 years ago
Why does every washed up artist claim that a genre is dead? Hating for no reason except that he ain't hot anymore.

in my opinoion, black music in general is dying. we are too concerned with making money and trying to get back the riches stolen from us decades ago that we have lost sight of the true meaning of music. I'm just 16years old and i don't get al this soulja boy nonsense, i mean really 'kiss me thru the fone', is he sang that rubbish to me i would hang up.
XsweetstarliteX 2 years ago 3
The impetus behind your comment is real but I do not like where it went. Black music? Trying to get back the riches?
Hun, it has to do with capitalism and commercialism. We live in a captalistic society where everything is watered down for mass consumption.
LoveTruth86 2 years ago
ok by black music i mean hip hop and r'n'b i didnt mean to offend anyone. by trying to get back the riches i meant those that was stolen from africa back in the day, again another opinion. i agree, its all to commercial and controlled which means everyone ends up saying and doing the same thing.
XsweetstarliteX 2 years ago
"i meant those that was stolen from africa back in the day"
No, there is no connection.
It has to do with capitalism and black people do not control our captialistic society.

MAN VALENTINO be wreckin tho, i thought Hip Hop was da only thang dyin ha!
lil580 2 years ago
I agree with Bobby to a certain degree. Because now a days it's really hard for R&B artist to sale like they used to back in the day. R&B is like the foundation for a lot of music today. Unless your a rapper or a pop artist, you pretty much have to work 10x as hard to sale units. R&B 4 LIFE. =D

Bobby V is alright too. I like his voice. Remember Blackberry Molasses y'all?
keenyens12074 2 years ago
Yes but sadly his voice has deteriorated since then and none of his solo songs have that kind of credibility. It's a shame Mista didn't survive as I'm sure they would have had a more worthwhile legacy.
AcousticUplift 2 years ago
I don't care what anybody says, Trey Songz is the best R&B singer out right now, as far as the men go. His voice is so smooh and his songs are like the kind I liked when I was coming up. They're modern, but he delivers them like back in the day R&B. And he is FINE as hell!!
keenyens12074 2 years ago
@keenyens12074 trey i good right now. true but if only the could make him like the old R&B OLD SCHOOL because now its all about sex sex sex and more sex i miss the day when it would make you fall in love help relationships now its just about sex what a shame

ryan leslie is decent, ginuwine gotta new album coming, joe got new album under his new label, which could be like old joe, I just think the new rnb dudes are whack and just copy the origionators like usher etc... I mean J Holiday hahah what a joke lol

Usher is not an originator of anything.
LoveTruth86 2 years ago 4
@CARENCROLOUISIANA spot on man well said
003bone 1 year ago
I would classify artists like Maxwell, India, Erro etc more as 'soul/R&B' as oppose to plain R&B. In my mind the two genres are distinct, especially now. They may both have evolved from US Gospel but they are two different animals. I don't listen to a lot of contemporary mainstream stuff full stop but from the little I do now I think Mario Barrett has the most accomplished and soulful male vocals (in the traditional sense) of his peers. His material often lets him down unfortunately.
AcousticUplift 2 years ago
fucking talentless idiot, rnb isnt dead, just the mainstream trash like him, CB, Rihanna etc...are talentless. Last time I checked Ginuwine, Joe, Boyz 2 men, Usher, Musiq are still active!! Bobby V is one of the worst artists, horrific albums

Ha!
