I encourage anyone who's feeling the nostalgia to check out therebirth(dot)net... it's a 1.12 vanilla server that strives to be as close to the original vanilla wow as possible... don't be turned off by the crappiness of most private servers, there are no instant levels, donations, vote rewards, free gear, xp boosts... just pure nostalgia. One of the least buggy private servers you'll find as well, the people running it are amazing. The closest you can get to experiencing what you once loved...
This song reminds toughness, Stranglethorn, not a easy land, mobs are numerous. Especially on a PVP server, I've been camped many times. But I love it, and I'll still love it.
I have very fond memories of this track. I could hear it being played in my head as I sat there in my little tubular floatation device floating about the stagnant pond that wasnt protected by any shade or coolness, the burning sun could be seen evaporating the water away....and the ice in my alcoholic mixed drink. Nothing to do on this hot summer day besides float around.
Who would want to do anything in this heat anyway?
set an alarm every 3 hours to wake up and loot the arena chest. Even though I wasn't level 60, sometimes sap lasted just long enough for me to loot the chest lolol. And the times when I was 60 and we'd loot the chest and leave a pot in there so the chest stayed and we could keep fighting ahahaha. The music was so perfect, I'm not sure we'll ever get another experience like vanilla as blizz love orchestra stuff now.
It is sad that no mmo's after WoW really got the same feeling of world PvP, it's very restricted this days.
One of the reasons together with heavy nerfs starting to fall on the game back in late BC was when i stoped playing, in good time it seems as WoW turned into some christmas sparkling tree with instant teleportation around the world with a click of a button.
The new one is just not that good. I'm glad I have been leveling here with my hunter before Cata. Questing in Stranglethorn AND listening to the original music. So much memories!
lol my god it was so hard to quest in stv back then due to pure ganking....on a pvp server at least. is it still like that? havent played in quite a while and dont plan on getting back into wow
I still remember the first time I went into the ZG path, not knowing the guards had been killed so i was going through the path exploring when all of a sudden wack! Some skull level trolls killed me. Never forgot that till this day.
every expansion has an increase in levels, therefore it is logical to narrow the gap between the levels. However then new people are missing about 70% of the content that was fantastic and actually WAS World of Warcraft, forget all this redone crap, they ruined the world I wish they would just hurry up and make Vanilla private servers.
I love ganking ppl here but I dont corpse camp because I know the feeling of being corpse camped. instead I stay there, bow at them when they rez, and run off.
I played wow until 60 and was doing blw lair by the time I stopped cuz I couldnt concentrate on my studies. Anyway, by listening to these songs I remember how cool it was to lvl up, fulfil quests and visit dangerous instances. WoW was filled with magic. For what I saw now, they completely fucked up the adventure of lvling up. The magic of WoW is forever lost.
I remember on my first character a Nelf hunter. Walking into stranglethorn and was like " yeaa I pwn im lvl 30" and then getting ganked all the time. And all the general chat was "LF page" for that one quest where you had to find a bunch of pieces
Pre-BC WoW is just full of memories for me, memories that are so sad now that it's almost as if WoW was an actual part of my life. I don't mean just playing the game, I mean as if I were actually in the game.
Of all those memories STV is probably right at the top. At level 40, beginning to quest there, it was so tough and unforgiving. You had to look for quest items or locations that would take an hour just to find, and all the while the god damn horde would pop up out of nowhere and 1shot me.
Questing and leveling in the old world, even with the xp buffs was the very last I thing enjoyed doing in this game that just kept getting worse and worse. Then Cata came and had to take even that away for good. The new linear on-rails ultra fast questing to 60 system is awful and feels more like a single player XBOX 360 game than a sprawling, adventure filled MMO like this game used to be.
Listening to these tracks is just so bittersweet. R.I.P. WOW for real. It just doesn't exist anymore.
I used to hide in the water, below the docks, with my NE hunter. As soon as horde passengers put their foot out of the ship, deadly arrows stroke them from below. It was sooo fun, I miss the old times.
If you played on Trollbane (EU) during Vanilla and/or TBC and DID NOT get ganked by Thebigcheese in STV at some point you haven't truly experienced World of Warcraft.
I love this music but i have went so many times in STV and now i'm going in Desolace --> AH --> Badlands --> SOS because i have only went there 1 time and i'm going again there :) they rulzz too do you agree ?
nostalgia... stranglethorn, no mount, trying to get to level 40 so i can get one. spent HOURS walking back and forth! you kids don't know how easy you have it! mount at level 20? Flight paths galore!? it was a big deal when you would ding between 30-40!

@Nakzor YES finally who agrees with me :P i always came by stranglethorn as a horde to go gank the ally nubs in duskwood or at the small alliance camp at that small bridge :P god the moments i spent laughing and ganking in duskwood were endless and hilarious ^^
@iorost lol indeed, suddenly a rogue jumped you or some fucking packs of tigers, I died so many times but still was soooo fun. This music is as you said really fit for STV :D
@justkikinit Blizz has already contradicted themselves with things they said they'd "never do." Faction-change, race-change, etc etc etc. We can only hope they'll go back on their word on the oldschool servers :).
@kittenkannon9089 Seriously. Blizz rakes in hundreds of millions of dollars, they can afford to set up a few vanilla servers. Shit, I'd play on one, and there are thousands more who would too.
@VegasBilgeRat But if you didn't know, they are owned by Activision now, and Activision is a company to sell and make a profit. From my perspective, the Vanilla and BC servers seem like a bad idea, because some people would only just have to buy the original game instead of having to pay about 100 bucks overall, from buying Vanilla, BC, WotLK and upcoming Cataclysm. In other words, they wouldn't rake in a profit from those servers.
@kittenkannon9089 yea, but plenty of businesses do many things that cost them money, in the pursuit of customer service. And I have to disagree, I don't think many people would choose not to buy the expansions. The vast majority of people who desire a vanilla server are hardcore WoW players who have already bought the expansions. Not to mention, the bread and butter of WoW is the subscriptions, not the minor income from expansion sales.
most amazing sight on wow:sat on beach in STV looking into sunset...with new water effects i hope they leave some beaches in cata so we can see the amazingness
2:54 onward is my favorite part, levelling there was so fun but monotonous. come to think of it, i would give alot to be able to level in vanilla again
hahahaha @ 1:00 that ticking sound used to come at those random points where u just defeated a mob or completed a quest............... and oh my good walking from duskwood to bootybay was such a horrible long way and i always got killed by those raptors or gorillas or what not :( YET GOOD OLD TIMES!
Obviously, classic WoW's formula was far superior to the things we've seen with BC and WotLK.
Old Azeroth was changed though, classic isn't what it used to be and now is some confused amalgama of old and new wich isn't exactly improving the levelling environment. With Cataclysm we're going to see some positive change if you ask me.
I'm not sure if there is much to hate with the upcoming expansion pack. We, the players, always whine about just about everything they introduce with every new pack because it brings change to the things we now trust. I, for one, am looking forward to Cataclysm's release!
Dude I was playing for year or more before BC came out...and I was looking forward to BC....then I got disapointed real bad...and after,I thought, like you now, that the next expansion will fix it all,and that it will be the good old Wow....but guess what....the same happened as before... And now,how could I be positive about new expansion...I quit the game anyway, was sick and tired of all the farming wow became...
I first thought the same as you to be honest, still am kind of sceptical about some of the things I've seen come and go. Cataclysm seems really solid up until now though, far more than WotLK did when BC was still running at least. Wether you want to play it or not is up to the player in the end though.
Ofcourse, that's because the SNES is one hell of a gaming system. It's also completely irrelevant when it comes to WoW and its expansion packs though. :P
@Kingdemonpigfromhell I remember it by the arena which I always failed at and the rare gorilla in that cave I tried to tame but accidentally killed. :\
I always died in stranglethorn vale, but I still loved it x3
As much as I am excited for Cataclysm, that much I am sad for STV being destroyed. They say that the world will be forever changed. That forever means to the next expansion.I mean,Azeroth wont be destroyed forever.STV is my fav place. The trolls, the music, the quests.Ahhh...I love STV.When I play a troll and I am in STV,the feeling is great. And,yeah,we have all been ganked.Thats why I love STV.I must keep my eyes open all the time to not be slaughtered.I can write about STV all day here.
I think there's something about the vanilla (original) of any MMO, you know, just an MMO before expansions. I thought TBC added a lot, WotLK added a little, but I don't think Cataclysm will be very cool. So, I think the expansions added content, but it wasn't very good content. I think they made parts of Outland a joke, like with the high tech areas. WoW has a "watered down" feel to it these days.
The worst part of the added content is the goblin high tech stuff. High tech is for Starcraft, not medieval Europe based RPGs. It also felt like some of the expansion material was forced out of the writers, and they couldn't come up with anything good after Vanilla WoW. The content was good as long as they could really base it off of WCIII
thatwhy I have a lot of 30 - 40 chars ! i got a very nice feeling when i hear this music and think about the coast of grom gol and zeppelins :) OAAh wonderful I like really to enjoy this game !! and i want classic back ^^
i started a few months before the beginning of TBC, so i got to experience some of vanilla WoW.
When i hit 70, i was really disappointed with the whole end game aspect, but maybe that's down to the server i was on (Xavius, it was dead when i left and apparently still is).
But damn, this is making me want to reinstall and start all over again lol.
defiantly it was ur server cuz its not dead at all now i play on the thrall server but that servers only good for horde alliance are lacking in skill there no offence to them
I am SO looking forward to all these quests and chillin in STV on my Troll priest. She's only 21 now and I'm still in Ashenvale :D gorgeous zone.
Anyone else who feels so nostalgic after watching these videos needs to start an alt and do everything all over again, at your own pace (I'm going to stay guildless to 80). It really takes you back...
Damn this brings back memories. WoW is way too economic now. Not enough of that feeling of insecurity as your running through some foreign land. There also isn't enough of a diversity between player character power scales. Its either now your geared, or your not. I remember when I got my azuresong mageblade and was super excited. Nowadays... almost everyone is fulled epic'd.
Man, I feel so terrible not being able to play through the first few years of WoW when level 60 was cool and there were no such things as DKs. I only started when BC was launched. Damn you music and the nostalgia I will never have.
i remember entering stranglethorn valley for the first time with my gnome rogue and being all like "OMG nesingwarys expedition is being attacked!" and everybody else was all like "Oh who cares? It's always like this!"
the night elf starting and low zones are the most nostalgic, because my first char was one.. but STV is awesome.
people don't understand how WoW is awesome and think its just a gay video game...but down to the style and music, it really is a pretty brilliant game.
Ah, I feel the same way. My first char was a night elf druid. You get an awesome feeling when you hear the teldrassil music again. Makes me feel so excited!
@TheDudeLebowskee I'm glad I'm not the only one that's nostalgic about WoW zones. I love Stormwind, Westfall and the gnome starting areas... Cataclysm is going to be sooo sad for me, when they tear Azeroth apart. =(
you have died , release to nearest graveyard

@justkikinit yeah, I don't think it ever will. Probably way to complex or too much work to run those different servers.
kittenkannon9089 1 year ago
@justkikinit Blizz has already contradicted themselves with things they said they'd "never do." Faction-change, race-change, etc etc etc. We can only hope they'll go back on their word on the oldschool servers :).
Denominator90 1 year ago
@kittenkannon9089 Seriously. Blizz rakes in hundreds of millions of dollars, they can afford to set up a few vanilla servers. Shit, I'd play on one, and there are thousands more who would too.
VegasBilgeRat 1 year ago
@VegasBilgeRat But if you didn't know, they are owned by Activision now, and Activision is a company to sell and make a profit. From my perspective, the Vanilla and BC servers seem like a bad idea, because some people would only just have to buy the original game instead of having to pay about 100 bucks overall, from buying Vanilla, BC, WotLK and upcoming Cataclysm. In other words, they wouldn't rake in a profit from those servers.
kittenkannon9089 1 year ago
@kittenkannon9089 yea, but plenty of businesses do many things that cost them money, in the pursuit of customer service. And I have to disagree, I don't think many people would choose not to buy the expansions. The vast majority of people who desire a vanilla server are hardcore WoW players who have already bought the expansions. Not to mention, the bread and butter of WoW is the subscriptions, not the minor income from expansion sales.

STV for ever :) ..
Place where i (most of us) got killed by hordes or mobs ..:) ..good old time..
The same time were u did help each other and make fun, even when u didnt have full epic.
Also it was a challnge to get the The Gurubashi Arena chest....even when u wasnt level 60.
And what we got now? ...
To many people forgot to make fun in WoW and all they care about is ICC and *OMGWTFCHECKMYGEAR! ...*

STV..best place in WoW...
WOTLK had destroyed the game a little bit.. and Cataclym destroy it full...

QQ.
Cataclysm offers ample oppurtunity to experience new adventures and REdiscover the world we know.
What do you wanna do, play the exact same game for years and years to come? You'll be bored to tears.

Hmm I mean... I have more Fun with WoW before Wotlk.. The most people think so.... I miss this Game so much..
TheBlackstyle92 1 year ago
@TheBlackstyle92
Obviously, classic WoW's formula was far superior to the things we've seen with BC and WotLK.
Old Azeroth was changed though, classic isn't what it used to be and now is some confused amalgama of old and new wich isn't exactly improving the levelling environment. With Cataclysm we're going to see some positive change if you ask me.

lvl 60 then 70, 80 and now 85 i think in future they make it up to lvl 100... i hate it
ukorit 1 year ago
@ukorit
I'm not sure if there is much to hate with the upcoming expansion pack. We, the players, always whine about just about everything they introduce with every new pack because it brings change to the things we now trust. I, for one, am looking forward to Cataclysm's release!
Stonezorz 1 year ago
Dude I was playing for year or more before BC came out...and I was looking forward to BC....then I got disapointed real bad...and after,I thought, like you now, that the next expansion will fix it all,and that it will be the good old Wow....but guess what....the same happened as before... And now,how could I be positive about new expansion...I quit the game anyway, was sick and tired of all the farming wow became...
14Srb88 1 year ago
@14Srb88
I first thought the same as you to be honest, still am kind of sceptical about some of the things I've seen come and go. Cataclysm seems really solid up until now though, far more than WotLK did when BC was still running at least. Wether you want to play it or not is up to the player in the end though.
Stonezorz 1 year ago
@Stonezorz
i guess but i still play my snes games from when i was 5. i play them all the time.
still not bored of them.
Itsdefault 1 year ago
@Itsdefault
Ofcourse, that's because the SNES is one hell of a gaming system. It's also completely irrelevant when it comes to WoW and its expansion packs though. :P

DracoMalfoy87 2 years ago 2
yeah it does, i remember running out of quests to do in vanilla i was 56 and had to grind in silithus to 60, man those were the days
naftel23 2 years ago 4
The worst part of the added content is the goblin high tech stuff. High tech is for Starcraft, not medieval Europe based RPGs. It also felt like some of the expansion material was forced out of the writers, and they couldn't come up with anything good after Vanilla WoW. The content was good as long as they could really base it off of WCIII
DracoMalfoy87 2 years ago
thatwhy I have a lot of 30 - 40 chars ! i got a very nice feeling when i hear this music and think about the coast of grom gol and zeppelins :) OAAh wonderful I like really to enjoy this game !! and i want classic back ^^
Batza1994 2 years ago 2
Ahh, all these videos take me back (:
i started a few months before the beginning of TBC, so i got to experience some of vanilla WoW.
When i hit 70, i was really disappointed with the whole end game aspect, but maybe that's down to the server i was on (Xavius, it was dead when i left and apparently still is).
But damn, this is making me want to reinstall and start all over again lol.

It really takes you back...
lastplacewin 2 years ago 2
Damn this brings back memories. WoW is way too economic now. Not enough of that feeling of insecurity as your running through some foreign land. There also isn't enough of a diversity between player character power scales. Its either now your geared, or your not. I remember when I got my azuresong mageblade and was super excited. Nowadays... almost everyone is fulled epic'd.

good old days!

Lol when i was first playing through on my mage. I seriously contemplated how I was going to get through STV because of how many times I got ganked.
It was fun as hell though hah.

Man, I feel so terrible not being able to play through the first few years of WoW when level 60 was cool and there were no such things as DKs. I only started when BC was launched. Damn you music and the nostalgia I will never have.

the night elf starting and low zones are the most nostalgic, because my first char was one.. but STV is awesome.
people don't understand how WoW is awesome and think its just a gay video game...but down to the style and music, it really is a pretty brilliant game.
