I loved this show. An extra reason fot it was that this show aired during the cold war (1945-1990) and reinforced that the USA were the good guys and the Russians were the bad guys. This show does have a pro-patriotic USA bent to it. This was actually complained about to the ABC in the 1980's by a "concerned" viewer.
Me and my girfriend have just been sat in bed and she was whinging that she has found the Remgel the indigestion sweet all over the house in random places....lol lol lol! So..... we invented a song to the tune of Roger Ramjet...Here goes..
I used to watch this regularly for years, not because I was particularly fond of it, but because in Australia it was aired at 5:55 each night and it was between two shows I watched.
I remember this show! I was only about three years old then. What memories! I don't remember too much about the content of the show, but I do remember the thunder sound effect in the title theme. BOOM! And vaguely the theme song. When I was that age, I couldn't say "Ramjet", so I called him "Roger Roojah".
so many cartoons have "fighting for freedom: as a phrase, but the only one I can remember as literally "fighting for freedom" was a fricken "sonic the hedgehog" cartoon against a doctor robotnic dictatorship. Not really a complaint, but I have just been a bit bothered how loosely the word "freedom" gets used
I could have sworn I saw a new cartoon done in this style with the same voices on Noggin years ago. Did the same people who did this put out anything in the 90s?
@ORCZORR That's what I thought immediately. I never detected it as a kid, but you can tell the motive was to inspire American patriotism and great respect for the military. The Eagle, the borders to an American dollar bill, the colours. Propaganda alright.
This clip leaves out the second verse! (The controversial one...)
"When Ramjet takes his proton pill
the crooks begin to worry
They can't escape their awful fate
from proton's mighty fury!
Chorus"
Roger's power, of course, came from his "proton energy pills" - "PEP Pills"; and someone decided that this show would make drug addicts of the children who watched it. PUH-LEEEZE!!!
I didn't know who Dick Beals was until years later, but even when I was under 12 I noticed similar voices in Roger ramjet and the earlier Funny Company, both of which I now know were Ken Snyder productions.
1965 according to IMDB.. I watched this circa 1985-6 or so as a kid, along with Jabberjaw and The Monkees.. Reruns are a great thing. One of my daughter's toys plays a "Yankee Doodle" tune and all I can think of is Roger Ramjet lol
Roger Ramjet and his Eagles Fighting for our freedom Fly through in and outer space Not to join 'em, but to beat 'em Roger Ramjet, he's our man Hero of our nation For his adventures just be sure And stay tuned to this station So come and join us all you kids For lots of fun and laughter As Roger Ramjet and his men Get all the crooks they're after
Most hardcore repugs would not have grown up on this, or atleast weren't paying attention if they saw it. It's just A GOOD POLITICAL SATIRE specifically aimed at them. A high percentage of repugs don't realize the Colbert Report is a satire either. That just means the satire is all the more effective. Watch Dr. Strangelove, then try watching the Roger Ramjet episode "Dr. Ivan Evilkisser" without cracking up a little.
Considering how some Dmeocrats seem tom support MidEastern Terrorism, maybe being a Repbulican is not all that bad [I said MAYBE, I'm one myself but am reconisdering but NOT supporting pro-terroistsm!]
I can't remember... I think it's either the line "and stay tuned to this station" I was referring to, or the flashing of different images really quickly. lol
There was a kids' show in Phoenix called "Wallace & Ladmo" which ran a Roger Ramjet cartoon each morning. The joke was more grown-ups watched the cartoons than kids.
On one occasion, one of the hosts, Wallace, said they'd received a petition calling for two Roger Ramjet cartoons each day.
"What school are they from?" the other host, Ladmo, asked.
"The Fuel Pump Lounge," Wallace replied.
(Yes, that was a real bar in Glendale, a Phoenix suburb).
The theme song's lyrics were sung to the tune of "Yankee Doodle" and it was written and composed by Paul Shively and Charles Koren, and performed at the organ by Ivan Ditmars (of Let's Make A Deal fame). The first and third verses were sung over the opening credits. The second and third verses were sung over the closing credits. The chorus was sung after each verse. Sung by Dick Beals, who did the voice in the "Speedy Alka-Seltzer" commercials.
it's funny you should post this statement...seeing as Roger Ramjet is the spitting animation image of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney!! lol
