Phelps was able to win eight golds in nine days because, yes, he's the greatest Olympic SWIMMER of all time. Not the greatest Olympian! Its astonishes me that anyone could even suggest that!!!

Well bolt could put extra time and train for the 400, and which will get him the 4x4. If he wants to be like Carl Lewis and add the long jump then that would've been 6 gold medals. In fact, two of the four previous greatest Olympic champions came from track, Paavo Nurmi and Carl Lewis (9 golds each). Mark Spitz was only swimmer with 9 gold medals while the other was Larissa Latynina who was a gymnast. MP's tittle as the Greatest is well deserved, 14 gold medals and maybe more in the future.

@laurentbernier25 Because running multiple events is FAR FAR harder than swimming multiple strokes and distances. The history books tell us that. There has never been a man or woman who has won both the 100m and 400m in the same olympic or world championships. You have to specialise in track and field. So therefore accumulating medals in track and field is far more difficult. This isnt an opinion it's a fact.

It's true - Phelps did quite well. But overall, you have to admit, China ended the "American dream" with an astounding 51 gold medals to America's embarrassing 36. This was China's Olympics in every way. Contrary to the cheery song which accompanied this video, all Americans should drag their feet and look at the ground in shame. Yeah, i don't think there can really ever be a true "Greatest Olympian Of All Time". Maybe of their sport, then again..they can only be the greatest of their time, with all the advancements in technology and technique, you can't compare people from different eras fairly.
