  • perfect

  • So beautiful and sonorous. He has many 'weird' quirks watching him play and I love it. Adds a lot of personal touch to his playing. I would love to hear the rest of this sometime. What a sound.

  • Beautiful.

  • excelente!!!!

  • excelente!!!!

  • I would have to say - as a professional hornist - one who has played this many times - that this is probably the best modern recording of this piece. Although it is on Europa-TV - it is the best sound and clarity that I have ever heard. I've heard it played live with Tuckwell, Clevenger, and others - but nothing like this. Ruske is a wanna-be as far as I feel. I've known Erik for over 34+ years - and he is an amazing instructor and orchestral hornist, but NOT soloist.

  • Does anyone know what exact model of Paxman he plays? I know it's an M20, but what about throat size (M,L,A,E) and yellow or gold brass?

  • @shib340 That's not a matter of horn but of hornist :)

  • buenisimo

  • muy bueno

  • Is he playing all of this in a double horn, is that normal?

  • @DylanHornVillain Yes, and yes, although when Dennis Brain made his recording of this great work with Wolfgang Sawallisch he played it on an Alexander B flat/ A Single. But the simple truth is that Alessio Allegrino could play any horn and make one cry at his musicality and humanity. He is a very modest man, so he probably wouldn't want me to say this but I feel I must: he is, in my opinion, the finest horn player of his generation. He has a great sense of humour, too.

  • How in the hell can he play with that kind of speed flat fingered? That boggles my mind. Whatever works for you I guess.

  • What's upsetting is that this was probably on tv in Europe, and in the US we barely have such beautiful music on television. :P

  • Who is this great hornist ?? I have not know heard anything from Alessio Allegrini yet!

  • Just magnificent. THE most musical hornist I've ever heard. Tremendous control and wonderful dynamic range.

This is a true joy. Bravissimo Signore Allegrini!

  • Beautiful!

  • Alessio Allegrini is truly the Heifetz of the horn. He's the worthy successor to Brain and Baumann. There is nobody else I can think of who can pull off Strauss' 2nd. In my opinion, he is the greatest living horn player, an inspirational teacher and thoroughly pleasant person. I can only thank God that the musical world has been blessed by his consummate artistry. I consider myself priviliged to have shaken his hand.

  • @univocalic Yeah he is amazing! You should listen to Radek Baborak!

  • @paxmanhorn20 I'd love to hear Radek Baborak play it. He is one of my heroes, along with Javier Bonet. I know that he would be technically perfect but I wonder if he would play certain first movement passages in the papillionaceous manner Allegrini and Brain espouse. Thanks for your comment.

Bellissimo!

  • Beautiful and perfectly Straussish! Surprizingly dark tone.

  • Maravilloso.................................:)

  • Eccezzionale!

  • When hearing this, I picture the countryside on its finest day.

GRANDE ALESSIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Qualcuno sa che bokkino (moutpiece) usa Alessio?

  • SCHILKE 31

  • Bravo maestro!!

  • Does anyone happen to know what mouthpiece does Alessio Allegrini use?

Complimentissimi!!!

  • Youre a genius! Extraordinary playing. I love the way you play

  • i like how he is standing up. i never played standing before i bet it would be harder.

  • no silly, its easier- I have problem sitting- but I like to play chamber music?!!

  • @aceTL87 It's actually easier. A lot leasier. Standing up is the norm now when it comes to soloing.

  • WOOOOOOOW io li vedevo sempre a rete quattro.

  • fantastic, Alessio! All the best from Vincent from Detmold!

  • Is that a Paxman!?!?

  • yes it is

  • holy crap the beginning is right on!

  • He has a bizzarely flat finger position... absolutely wonderful playing though - brilliance of the first order. Shame about the lost ending - I would love to hear his 3rd mov!

  • Congratulation!!!

  • mitico, penso che il suono dica tutto

  • don't know how this could be rated anything but 5 stars.

  • ahh but it did cut off the ending...

  • Beautiful, dark tone, throughout all registers, good ear, very musical. Orchestra very complementary.

  • bravissssssimo!!!!

  • Such a superior musician first and foremost. Control that is almost unbelievable. My favorite piece of Strauss for many reasons. Signore Allegrini truly makes it sing and makes one's heart feel the joy. It isn't possible that the rest of the slow movement and the 3rd were poor. Not with this man's ability and glorious sound. Please upload the rest!

  • OK, 1. I don't believe you 2. You should be able to transpose into E flat before being in college.

Seriously, I go to Eastman for horn performance and if I came to my teacher not being able to transpose a whole step he would castrate me.

Buy the part in E flat.

  • I agree. When I was in JUNIOR high, I was transposing Eb parts just to make it interesting. We would play old marches that had F parts on one side and Eb on the other, and I would always turn them over and play the Eb side. When you get to college you'll meet trumpet players with C horns playing Bb parts, and trombone players playing tenor (maybe alto) clef; you have to hold up your end on behalf of all French horn players everywhere!

  • thats a horn :X love it :) alessio !!!! he's a real one :X

  • Fabulous - it doesn't get any better than that. A true horn sound that never gets thin or trombone-like and has a gorgeous ring even when playing soft. Beautiful interpretation.

  • Bravissimo!

  • I find those first six notes so beautiful

  • Perfect!

  • So beautiful, thank you thank you thank you for posting this. French Horn is the most pure and beautiful instrument, and he plays it just perfectly!

  • un saluto a tutti

    AlLabdani legrin Aberwan Bolivar

  • is there a third movement to this video?

  • This man is something else!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!

  • Just perfect!

  • OMG!!! that was amazing!!!!! that piece was just perfect!!! BRAVO!

  • Alessio! Your playing horn is much than fantastic! I'm professional and everything what can I say is - "how can you do that"? BRAVO!!!

Inchiniamoci!!!!

  • senza parole!!!

  • Seems to have total control of the instrument, no mean feat! Very musical performance, like singing. Must be the recording but he sounds a little muffled to me.

  • Having been raised on Dennis Brain recordings, I have consistently had troubles listening to other interpretations of various horn concertos without longing for the Brain version. You, sir, have played this so wonderfully and with such beautiful tone that my ears crackle with awe and wonder. Thank you very much. Now I'm dying to hear the next two movements.

  • I agree

  • OMG don't stop there that is the best bit!!! Really nice dark tone

  • lol his facial muscles move constantly as he changes notes in his arpeggio.. Lolz. Oh yeah, check out my performance of the mozart's 3rd. it's by goodgates. thanks

  • looks like a Paxman.

  • Io c'ero!

  • Where is the rest of the second movement and the third movement? Could you post them?

    Alessio Allegrini

  • Just amazing. Nothing like it ever! To those who've been around, yes, this is the most spectacularly musical, graceful yet magisterial performance ever. Just amazing. Bravissimo Signor Allegrini--you've made us, as your name implies, very happy!

  • You Sur are "the" true Master of the Horn, this is pure music. thank you

  • GRANDISSIMO

    N° 1 Al MONDO

    E' un DIO

    FANTASTICO

  • This is amazing! i recently played this piece and you just played the hell out of it!

  • I wish I had this video when I did this for solo and ensemble...

  • I saw Baumann live, I was at Tuckwell's final solo performance ... I've seen them all. This is perhaps the most musical performance I have seen on the instrument. You should consider yourself among the lucky if you're viewing because this is VERY rare.

  • Live performance of incredible musicianship,

control, beautiful sound, don,t think it

can be played any better, wish Ricard Strauss

    could have heard it.

  • Muchas gracias Angelo!! Increible! Alessio toca como un dios.

  • A wonderful soloist with a great command of the horn.

It was a pleasure to listen to this video.

Dolores Beck (horn teacher, Westchester county, New York, USA)

  • !Una pasada!sonido excelentemente bello

  • Very nice playing, but I'm wondering why he only uses the F side of his horn for 2nd line Gs and 3rd space Cs. Does anyone more familiar with this player know if he usually uses a single Bb with F attachment or something? Just curious...

  • il primo al mondo....solo lui Allegrini

  • Incredible play. I just heard one, who played exactly this better and this was Radovan Vlatkovic. He's like the universe.

    5/5

    greeetz

  • er mejo....

  • dio che suono....

  • Hey where is the rest of it?!?!? The video stops before the best part of the second movement.

  • Un solo commento possibile:

    Hasta La victoria Siempre,Comandante!

  • what's?

  • bravo alessioooooo!!!

  • i just played this for a Junior Recital. Your interpretation is great and your sound is beautiful. Wish i sounded like this

  • i just played this for a Junior Recital. Your interpretation is great and your sound is beautiful. Wish i sounded like this

  • This man is SUPER wow mmmm... i love french horn

  • budur.Bravo.....

  • Fantastic

  • but what's happened here? I can't find my last post...isn't everything ok?? bye

  • It is interesting that he plays all D's on the 3rd valve instead of 12.

  • thats because Ds tend to be out of tune when played 12 and more in tune when played 3.

  • Not necessarily : it depends on horn used and its settings. It's usually easier in fast passages. But I don't know very well about Paxmans.

  • well, im guessing that due to the fact that he was doing it 12 was out of tune in that case.

    alternates are good to know.

  • Aah the benefit of knowing all the alternate fingerings, lol. I got grilled on that by my Private teacher because I used ALL alternates. Came in handy when playing fast sequences though.

  • Hi angelo thanks for posting allesio's strauss no. 2,but where is the last part? thanks again, allesio is such a horn hero I hope you you post the remaining parts. bye bye :-)

  • practically perfect!!....under all the points of view...great!!!

  • daccordissimo con te...è un genio!

  • yeah

  • Un talento eccezionale...

  • Mamma mia, grande..
