Jesse Lacey loves Modest Mouse.. Issac brock is a great songwriter.. lonesome crowded west was one of the best albums ever... Daisy sounds exactly like that album... issac brock is a better lyricist than jesse but jesse has a better voice... Brand new wouldn't have been able to write half there albums without the influence of modest mouse.. so don't knock modest mouse

Johnny marr was from The Smiths and is currently in Modest Mouse and if you listen to brand new "Mix Tape" they mention the smiths and morrissey in that song so, I guess that would be the only tie I can think of that would relate MM and Brand New. However I believe that Brand New sounds like Brand New.

i love nirvana even more so than brand new, well maybe not. ( i have every song and every demo by both bands and tons of live performances ) but i just don't seem to hear the influence. maybe in gasoline but otherwise i don't hear it. although i do hear modest mouse for sure.
