In the Empire Strikes Back, the scene with the medical droid poking Luke's new hand was inserted to demonstrate that he had feeling in his fingers. That way when Luke later puts his arm around Leia, it wouldn't seem creepy.

In this film, we have Anakin, a sociopath that just killed children, giving his skeletal, metallic hand in marriage to a woman over whom he has fantasized everyday for 10 years.

This is why the prequel trilogy is so flawed compared to the original.

@StarWarsEdits Anakin's hand utilizes medical technology that is 20 years older--obviously things had improved significantly when Luke needed a new hand. Also, Anakin & Luke are different characters--their hands are symbolic of that. I think you miss the point that there is *intentional* irony in the fact that a very damaged Anakin, who had given in to his anger, is marrying Padme. (Though I see nothing weird about his childhood crush--who doesn't have those?)

Anakin is no sociopath, though.

This scene never gets old. I cannot get over how beautiful Natalie Portman looks in this scene. She was as old as I am now when she did this, but as I was only 13 at the time, I thought her to be so gorgeous and grownup for her age. She was my favorite actress then, and still is today.
