I dunno man, I can get a similar sound out of my jazz bass, but it's just not as fantastic as his. I think it's just because his bass (Musicman Sterling) is a really really good instrument, and the fact that it has that fat humbucker and a preamp could also have something to do with it.

I've played MusicMan Sterlings before (in the process of buying one, I currently own a P-bass). A lot of it has to do with the amp. I can't get his exact sound, but the kind of grindy tone he gets when he picks the note usually comes from increasing the gain on the amp. I got close by turning up the preamp and turning up the bass about halfway, mids a little ways over half, and treble about the same. Again, that's how I did it, and I wasn't even that close, but it was as close as I could get.

Yeah they are very similar, they made some slight changes as I've just recently said in other comments further down. I really prefer this Bass Line over the final one they used. It makes the song sound richer/fuller/more complete I suppose you could say? Still though it's a good song. I just wish people didn't knock this album so much. After listening to GNV FLA (Great CD!) I've really began to enjoy "In With The Out Crowd" even more.

This was the original Bass Line for Overrated. However they changed the main verse so the Bass Line matches what Chris plays and they slightly changed the pre-chorus and chorus I believe.

It's a transparent green finish, so you can see the woodgrain underneath. The pickguard is tortoise shell. I don't believe you can get either one anymore. Gotta love Ernie Ball.

unless you go to a shop. sometimes they try and rip you off but sometimes you can get a great paint job for a decent price, just order yourself a sterling in natural with a tort pickguard and rosewood fretboard. then do the painting later on. ;)

thats true haha it is pricey, BUT it pays to shop around it really does. if you find a good place that doesnt rip you off your lookin at 200 to 300 bucks. but on a $1500 bass it makes it worthwhile i think, dont go painting your Squiers or Yamahas :)
