  • fuk school i make cheese yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • white guy wants black kids to get as little education as possible LOL

  • Rubio Dirk Darko Manu lmao all these guys no.type of college hell we don't know if they even went to.high school Rubio has been playing professional ball since 14 they say nothin about the Euros but when an black.kid does it.... It's a huge issue lmao our world and.society really puts too much on education and yes I do.believe school isn't for.everybody

  • @feez415 rubio studied high school diploma at the same time as he played pro ball, and he actually got decent grades

  • Jalen Rose was one of my favorite players, and he's a pretty good sports analyst too. Derrick Rose is also one of my favorites. I guess I just like the Roses. Could you imagine if they played together- for like the Trailblazers?! That'd be unreal!

  • I can't believe skip is sayin that smh

  • skip needs to stfu

  • The white guy made himself look stupid

  • the truth is jalen is rite... if tyler had gotten a career ending injury early into his first year, he wud have been fryin burgers at mcd's for hte rest of his life. no high school diploma, no college education, who is gonna hire him

  • how can someone promote not getting an education and having the opportunity to go to a good college on a scholarship cause it seems he can definitely get one. i feel like jalen is talking with experience with im guessing many of his friends didnt get the opportunity like he did to go to college and so if the opportunity arrives everyone should take it. Skip on the other hand seems to be talking like everything and college is always an option for ppl and in most cases its not

  • jalen got him. skip is an idiot. trying to always be overdramatic and play the devils advocate. he needs to chill on the ridellin.

  • Cmon jalen college diploma??? FAIL!!

  • Quote LeBron: "I didn't go to college"

It might have been a joke and all, but there is truth behind every joke.

  • I can't hear what they are saying. I'm too distracted by Skip Bayless' terrible suit.

  • If Jeremy Tyler got seriously hurt he'll at least have a million to fall back on. He could use part of that million to go back to school or develop a trade. If someone offers you a million dollar contract I say take it because you don't know if you'll see it again. Also just because you graduate from college doesn't guarantee you a job. Especially in this economy. There have been college that have been unemployed for years.

  • For the first time ever I some what agree with Skip Bayless. A lot of these players don't go to class. There have been NBA players that have been to college and are broke now. Look at Antoine Walker, Kenny Anderson, Derrick Coleman. Just because you go to college doesn't mean you know how to manage your money.

  • @e84fresh its about gettin an education son loll

  • At any time a player can become injured and their career is over. It's good to have an education to fall back on. Who was that player who washed out in the NBA and now he sells used cars? Agree with Jalen 100% They give you a scholarship, use it.

  • that white guy needs to shut the fuck up! hearing what he got to say at any occasion on TV is bullshit!

do i get any thumbs up?

  • I think Jalen makes good point as well as Skip. But at the same time, Jalen is speaking from employee point of view. As a Business man myself I feel you can always get your education. The best thing Jeremy Tyler can do is go to Europe play well and make sure he's not wasting his money. Matter fact he just got draft this year of 2011, so we're see if it helped his game.

  • I think Jalen is right, just for the wrong reason. Yes, "education always matters," but not because you can suddenly find another great career if basketball doesn't work out for you. Nothing's gonna "save you" if your pro sports career bombs.

But, education does "always matter" in that it helps keep you grounded, aware, and mature. The guy used to studying in a library after practice will be more mature in life than the dude doing drugs after practice. That's true no matter what your job is.

  • im with Jalen on this one

  • How can Skip say book smarts and basketball smarts don't correlate? Developing good study habits and critical thinking skills are essential in watching game film and learning about your opponent. And those traits start in the classroom...

  • @WillieHighlife actually they are VERY different..

  • i cant believe Skip actually finds playing basketball more important than a high school diploma...i love basketball, dont get me wrong, but if that were my son, there's no way in hell he's playing ball before he gets a diploma...Jalen has a point and so does the lady, Skip is just incomprehensible to me...(my opinion)...

  • Athletes have alot of talent, but they need to have the intelligence to also make it. How can you make it as a uneducated athlete? I just dont see it happenning

  • This was funny as hell

  • This

  • Jalen bossed up right there. Hey says, "education always matters..." at the end and if you look real closely you can see him mouth "...you simple bitch"

  • white guy = Fuck Education. Black Guy =Fuck Yes for Education. This is Americca muthafucks hahaha

  • education only matters when you can't play a pro sport!

  • damn, jalen killed him.

  • @AznCena Yeah, he could have stayed and went to college. Or like Jalen said, he could have turned an ankle or blown out a knee there too. Saying he would have gone top 10 is pure speculation. Besides, hind sight is 20-20. The kid made the decision 2 years ago so it's easy to say now, see "he fucked up bad"... fucked up and got himself drafted into the NBA.

Speaking of college speaking classes, is Jalen saying "athlete" or "afflete"?

  • SKIP GOT PWNED

  • Wow, I have a new-found respect for Jalen! "Education always Matter." Nice!

  • I love seeing skip lose an argument. haha hes an asshole.

  • Jalens points were weak. Basketball IQ isn't taught in the classroom. How about this analogy: As a junior in high school you're the best model train builder on the west coast and you aspire to do it for a living. A guy from Lionel Trains comes to you and your family and says he'll pay you 1.2mil to do this full time for two years. Is anything he's learning in his senior year in high school going to make him a better train builder? Nope. TURN PRO!

  • @pete94533 turn pro?.. have u seen him after? He fucked up bad and now hes a 2nd round pick.I bet if he stayed and went to college,he could have been 1st round top 10 pick

  • skip has a point why try to force him to go to school when he doesnt care to learn why dont you just let someone else who actually wants to learn go to school instead any ways it doesnt matter because he's a warrior now and he might start soon if biedrins plays sub-par again

  • i agree with skip. the kid just got draftet to the warriors. he's gonna do fine

  • i agree with skip.

  • Not everyone needs school. He did what he thought best and now he's a WARRIOR. I wish him much success!

  • Jeremy Tyler is a fool. The least he could be is an educated fool. He is just another reason why the United States is behind other 3rd world countries in education. This is the future? WE ARE DOOOOOMED!

  • @moman108 he got his ged

  • fast forward to today. he got drafted by the warriors...bad decisions beget bad decisions

  • So wait a minute...now we are encouraging guys to drop out of school?!! I thought the motto was "Stay in School".

  • Way too much stock is placed in education these days. Dumb people go to college and stay dumb when they get out. Nowadays going to a tech school is laughed and looked down upon, That's how arrogant we are as people now. I remember during my senior year of high school there was this chick that would ask me for help everyday during AP stats. It would take her 3 times of me going over a simple equation for her to get it. She went to VCU, I went to a tech school. Irony at its finest.

  • jalen rose ftw

  • Skip is saying Jeremy Tyler is a dumb-ass who does not want to learn. You can not teach anyone who does not want to learn. Take the money Tyler.

  • @jeannecitta What?!?! If he went to louisville, he would be in a similar position as perry jones (big guys who didn't produce too much in college, but is still wanted as a lottery pick in the nba draft) Now that he botched the euro AND the china league, he's slated to be drafted in the second round (if that) in this draft.

avg salary for top 10 pick = 2mil/ yr for 3-5 yrs

avg salary for 2nd rounder <1 mill over 2 yrs.

He took 1 mill for 1 yr and no name. J rose was right.

  • @Islandinthesun87 excuse me, Japan* not china

  • went from being a potential top 10 pick...to being a 2nd round pick...may have made 1 million in the 2 years, but lost close to 10 million guaranteed

  • Jalen is 100% correct.Throughout my years in education, it felt like I had learned nothing. But really, my maturity grew and all the bits I had learned were just there and didn't even realized it. Helped me so much in every aspect of life (professionally and financially).

  • This is supposed to be a land of liberty. All of this what if is bullshit. You live with the decisions YOU make. If you get injured with no backup then YOU have to suffer the consequences of the decisions YOU make.

  • Jalen Rose is absolutely right he should have waited to graduate atleast...

  • this is so dumb, of course skip is right, well sure its smart with education, but education wont make u a better player, it will just help you later in life, and education u can get whenever, BUT u cant go to the NBA when u'r 45.

  • @nuRLE That isn't necessarily true. As a neuropsychology major, I can tell you that the functions of the brain are quite intermingled. You develop certain aspects or functions of it and it can help in other areas. Have you ever noticed a correlation between articulate basketball players and their play on the floor? Kobe Bryant? Michael Jordan? Vince Carter? Jason Kidd? It is much more the rule than the exception that articulate basketball players tend to be elite basketball players....

  • @nuRLE Jeremy didn't even know he needs to have passport at the airport, so he missed his first flight to Israel, just because he's so immature, he didn't have a single person on team talking to him, and he was crying after each game. You tell me that would have happened if he finished school, and then went to play pro? :D

  • agree with skip 100%

  • 3:04 and 4:03 Jalen Rose preach !!!!!!

  • skip bayless is ignorant

  • This is why i respect Jalen Rose.

  • Skip sounds like those moronic fox news broadcasters yelling out something is unconstitutional wo even referencing how so. The nba has qualifications for employment just like law firms and hospitals. Does he think making lawyers pass the bar to practice is unconstitutional?

  • Skip Lewis pisses me off he doesn't know anything. He thinks that Derrick Rose is overrated too. HIm and Colin Cowherd need to be fired from ESPN!!

  • Lol, Skip said NBA one and done rule is unconstitutional...Skip needs an education

  • okay first if he was going to do that he should have just got his ged THEN LEFT. You can still go to college on a GED. A nice too. I did. Second of if you are playing basketball and you have a chance for a scholarship to a nice college, why on earth are you messing with your meal ticket. Finish highschool let the scouts see you, get a scholarship. Damn that kid is dumb. Hes messing up a real free ticket for a quick million.

  • COME TO THE CELTICS!!!!!!

  • education isn't for everyone? ya he lost me there

  • hahahaha a tremendous young man????? I live in SD and I watched him play numerous times and he is the farthest from a tremendous young man as anyone could be.

  • jalen rose is really smart

  • Whoa for one ya'll talking about my little cousin. You don't know the details of what happened in Europe, and it had NOTHING to do with his on court performance. Granted i do wish he did finish HS and played a year of college, but still it was his decision and really if he does get hurt with the contract he would get be set for at least 10 -15 years

  • @fjdxero SET FOR 10-15 YEARS? NO DISRESPECT MAN BUT HE SHOULD BE THINKING ALOT FURTHER THEN 10-15 YEARS....THATS THE PROBLEM WITH BLACK FOLK NOW WE DONT THINK 25 YEARS AHEAD...THINK ABOUT ALL THE FAM AND FRIENDS THAT WILL BE JOCKING TO HIT HIS POCKETS. THE KIDS HE WILL HAVE ONE DAY (THEY GOTTA BE TAKEN CARE OF FOOD, CLOTHES, SCHOOL) THEN HE'S GONNA HAVE TO HAVE MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE...LETS NOT FORGET THE TAXES HE WILL HAVE TO PAY...I PRAY HE MAKES IT...BUT OPEN YA MIND MAN

  • @CGRAY1171RELOADED I agree pro like jalen said pro-athletes that are should i say role players have really 5-10 good years before they go down hill. With all of would be Leaching Family members even if he becomes good and plays well his family is going to take all his money and then different woman are going to do the same thing im not saying he's like every athlete but thats usually what happens, they make the money and blow it during there career sadly enough i dont think he's going to last.

  • Skip is a moron.... Jalen really did tell the straight up truth about the situation.

  • @Kslim07 Naw Skip is right, this is America people have the right to choose what they want to do with their lives "Last time I checked".

  • if someone isnt interested in school, hes not gonna go. even if u force him to go, he wont pay attention.

  • @tonychoitellem Exactly! 100% agreement right here.

  • Jeremy Tyler is nothing but a quitter. He quit on his education and he quit on basketball. Enjoy dunking french fries at Mcdonalds boy.

  • @coldlynx LOL

  • Hey if a guy don't want to go school that his choice. If Jeremy Tyler wanted to be in school he'd be in school. Jalen isn't making a pretty good argument. Just giving a pep talk. Skip won this argument by a mile.

  • Lol. GED at 25.

  • Has nothing to do with smarts. It has to do with experience and if he is willing to involve himself in more than just basketball ( which it doesn't sound like he is) then this might work out. But I do feel like it's a bad and sad idea to put that much in only 1 thing, meaning basketball. You gain your best knowledge from experiences.

  • u guys gotta realize this is once in a lifetime.OF COurse its a stupid idea But I bet u If you guys had this choice, you guys would go overseas too.So stop saying hes all stupid and stuff because i bet half of u guys would do it. But on the otherhand, its his fault because He abusived the system by not showing up to practice and being late. And people say he is going to be 2nd round draft pick 2011.but idk,

  • HOLY SHIT JUNIOR YEAR,he must be very good O_O

  • Jalen told the truthLOL

  • They both have good arguments...What about the Euro cats who turn pro at 14, people just gettin upset cuz he American and the first who did it. Academics isn't for everybody, just like the gift of basketball or soccer, etc isn't blessed upon everybody

  • WOW SKIP WAS DEAD WRONG

  • @forshigity5000

How was he wrong? He didn't say Jeremy was gonna be successful. He just said he was ok with the idea.

  • skip is right. the nba cycle is fucked up

  • should have went to college, i cant believe his high school coaches wouldnt try to convince him that college ball is more important, then dropping out of high school. he'll never make it into the NBA.

  • @Kslim07 One of his coaches was his own father... smh. Explains a lot, eh?

  • He going to play in Japan.I'll admit HS and College is not for everybody.

  • Jeremy Tyler only averaged 2.1 PPG in 7.6 MPG and only played 10 games. Plus, the deal was only worth $140,000 which is nothing compared to what even rookies make in the NBA. However, some people believe that he could be a second round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft

  • @KoretiGuy95 I love Wikipedia too.

  • Jalen Rose was right.

  • His coach calls him lazy and out of shape. The team captain says he is soft. His teammates say he needs to learn to shut up and show up on time. He has no friends on the team. In extensive interviews with Tyler, his teammates, coaches, his father and advisers, the consensus is that he is so naïve and immature that he has no idea how naïve and immature he is. So enamored with his vast potential, Tyler has not developed the work ethic necessary to tap it.-

    His Coach Overseas

  • "an education last forever..." -Jalen Rose

So does herpes, but in the end it aint worth shit for people. Experience is...

  • HAHAHHA in your face Jalen, you were so wrong. This kid is playing PRO ball in Israel...yeah...punk. In your face...

    oh wait a minute....don't a look stupid.

  • "an education lasts forever"

Jalen is so right. An education is the one thing that NO ONE can take away from you.

  • education is a must. When you come into money, the hardest part is keeping it, because people come out of the wood work trying to take it from you thus you need your family around to help you figure out who is a snake and who is going to help you. This is not good.

  • I'm with skip on this one.

You simply CANNOT mix up basketball smarts and academic smarts. It just doesn't have any correlation.

If some team signs a 17 year old kid, well it's their business.

  • if jeremy tyler had a better attitude overseas then he could've been great. i still dont believe that he should've left so early but since he went overseas, what bothers me the most is his attitude which brought him down.

  • i think jeremy tyler made a mistake going pro before he graduated high school. i think he was too cocky in making the decision and he didn't do well overseas so his chances in getting in the nba went from a potential first round pick, if he went to college, to a maybe second round pick if he's lucky.

  • i agree with jalen but i dont think skip is wrong about kids wanting to go play pro basketball if teams are going to offer them millions of dollars. you gotta think about situations that these kids are in with their families and stuff. it didnt work out for tyler because he had a bad attitude going in (ie not showing for practice or coming in late etc) so i dont think skip is crazy for saying that but jalen is right

  • I wish I couldve played high school basketball at the same level that Jeremy did. I wouldve embraced it and wouldnt have fucked it up like he did.

  • i very much agree with jalen on this. Skip doesn't really know what he's talking about.

  • im gonna have to agree with skip....jalen makes it seem like this guy is gonna gonna make 1.2 million dollars and go on drinking and partying binge...whos to say he cant finish his senior year with a tutor a lot of people do home schooling and get the diploma...also if your presented with the oppurtunity to make close to a million dollars before you the age of 20 playing the sport of basketball why not try it if doesn't work out your still only 20...it the end of the world jus go back to school

  • I agree with Jalen

  • OK in the real world Skip you are a nut ball! Now look who was right? Jalen Rose 1 and like always Skip 0!!

  • Skip and Rose each have some valid points though, such as school isn't for everyone but education last forever.

  • Just because he can't play college basketball doesn't mean he can't go to college. You CAN go to college WITHOUT playing a sport. Even if it's a community/junior college, you can still get a degree in something, even if it's just general studies...

  • lol at anyone who disagrees with anything Jalen said in this video

  • Well what is he going to do now?

  • i hope skip dies

  • Jalen was right

  • dude couldn't even cut it in Israel. I'm sure his coach or family members told him to at least finish high school he should've listened. he thought he was gonna get special treatment in israel and let the coach play him for long periods of time. it doesn't work like that you gotta earn your minutes as a rookie. I don't feel bad at all for this dumbass, should've stayed in high school and went to college.

  • quit the team n went back to SD *sigh*

  • I am a Jalen fan but Jalen is wrong this time. This kid will earn $1 Million, that's enough money to invest and to start a business. That's enough money to make money work for him. Education only teaches students to work for money and not how money should work for them.

  • But how would he know how to make money work for him if he doesnt have an education?

  • @thetallkev91 My bad. I did not mean education. What I truly meant is school. Read about Robert Kiyosaki. It worked for me.

  • I want to know who the hell is giving him advice and told him this was a good idea?

  • I honestly believe most of the people commenting on this video have not received any education past high school. You all are judgmental pricks that clearly aren't fully familiar with the situation.

  • SMH @ Skip Bayless co-signing such a dumb move

  • Jalen Rose is really showing the benifits of an education, his points made so much sense, well done.

  • Jalen 99 % correct about the value of an education. Take it from someone who has a college degree, it is very valuable. However, the 1% is this fact, the top 2 nba players today did not play in college (Lebron and Kobe), Now im not education isnt important, but im saying if there are exceptions like Lebron and Kobe, they should be able to go to the nba after high school.

  • Skip: I never played basketball at the college or pro level, how can you compare book smarts and basketball smarts.

Jalen: I played college ball and in the NBA and now with my experience and education I have a good paying job after my NBA career.

Skip: In two years overseas he will make $300,000 which is more than most college graduates will make in 10 years at $50,000 a year! I was great at math!

  • So, lets fast forward to today... The kid did not last a full season in Eroupe and is back in San Diego.... Now, Skip you stupid azz, he has no high school diploma nor can he attend college. Who the hell are his parents? What the "F" were ya'll thinking. As an A/A male, stop living your lives through your children hoping they will be your ticket out of a situation.... Now, all of your are still there... SMH

  • @flipovergirl

He thats all on Jeremy, he has no one to blame but himself. If he couldn't hack it in Europe no way was he gonna hack it in the NBA.

  • @flipovergirl

None of the arguments that either of them brought up had to do with Tyler potentially failing to compete at the Euroleague level. I don't think anyone could have predicted that. Two, understanding the motion of electrons or being able to write an essay on Free Will vs Determinism will do you absolutely no good on the basketball court. Jalen Rose doesn't understand the difference between academic IQ and basketball IQ and their in ability to translate into each other.

  • @flipovergirl yeah lets fast foward to right now may of 2011 and he's a projected 1 Round Pick. And He got his G.E.D which is equivalent to a highschool diploma...so he proved both of them wrong

  • stupid kid, no college ball for him now, lets hope he can get into the CBA and take the back road

  • Jalen Rose was correct and on the right point the entire time. Skip Bayless is an ignorant douchebag. This kid now cannot play college basketball and will probably end up asking if you want fries with your burger.

  • this topic is very easy....it all depends on the person.

  • thank you. It depends. so if you not projected top 5-10, do not enter the draft.

  • Skip is ABSURD. And it didn't take Jeremy Tyler long to prove Jalen right. Education isn't just about learning historical dates, reading some Shakespeare and learning how to solve obscure math equations. Education is about learning how to think and maturing you so that you can function in the world. Clearly Tyler missed out on those lessons, as a true blue collar athlete would accept his role on the team and work hard to improve.

  • If your going to talk about how education isn't important, at least use proper grammar to defend your case.

  • GED classes begin in the Fall for this un-edumacated, Dreamer. McDonalds is waiting for you.

  • Why do people keep referring to McDonald's as if it's a bad place or only place to work? There ARE other fast-food places you can work at and I've heard of some decent paying jobs that don't require a HS Diploma (although usually involve plenty of manual labor). Anyway, I DO think this kid should've waited but hey... things happen.

  • he was only averaging 2.1 pts a game and 1. rbs. Jalen wins this argument

  • dumbass just quit his team over in Europe. Shouldve stayed in school.

  • Isreal is in the middle east.

  • SKIP IS UGLY!

  • that white guy is a joke

  • skip sound dumb as hell. get your high school diploma at least. im 18 n i know that

  • THANK YOU SKIP!!!

  • SKIP IS AN IDIOT.

  • SKIP IS AN IDIOT.

  • skip bayless is a dumbass.. who cares if that kid goes to class or not? it matters if you get it or not. not how you get it. will his future boss see on his resume that he skipped class at san diego high to smoke some weed? no! what an idiot

  • hehe! always luv to see a good debate! but we know better ryt?! education is everyone's key to success! talent can be killed by an injury but with a good educ, a stable job is always w8ng!^^

  • skip is right! a lot of ppl don't really go to class anyway, and school aint for anybody, however jalen makes sense as well, education is important. well most of the athletes are retarded

  • Jalen's right if he goed to college for that 1yr. then he put's his self in a better situation. It gives him a chance to play against other all americans, that test your game, going to college different coaching system, can he follow rules, is his size the factor of success in high school not skill.

  • Lol, Skip Bayless. sssssshhhh......

  • You know what there both right education is big however hes gonna be a ball player either way so why not go over seas and get some money and my be get your education another way Its the AMERICAN DREAM WITHOUT BEING IN AMERICA LOL

  • it was one line that skip said that really stuck with me. " i am not trying to impose my values on some kid". if you think about it you can't.

jalen is right with the education part. but think about skip's line.

  • will yall stop writin this paragraph long bullshit...yall talkin like fuckin lawyers and some shit..this kids legit

  • I agree with Jalen, whether if you're an aspiring athlete or a seasoned one having an education will always put you above the bar with everyone else. Education is key to being successful. Its unbelievable how ignorant Skip is ignoring the fact that we kids need education to save us in the long run after a career in basketball. I fully support the NBA's decision to put athletes through one year in university/college before entering the NBA.

  • @j00k00p

that rule is a complete joke. Yes education is key, but let me break it down like this and I have a college degree, if I were in players like Lebron James shoes, I would have done the exact same thing he did. Were talking about a guy whose mothers was working 2 jobs and he had the ability to end all that in one split second. Also dont forget, Lebron graduated with a 3.8 gpa so lets not act like he cant get a college degree when he finally decides too.

  • You think Lebron really graduated with a 3.8 GPA??? Seriously? You're right, I bet he got absolutely no special treatment. Yeah right, get real. Even at my high school, kids who didn't have an ounce of the talent Lebron has got special treatment. Don't be fooled.

  • hater. What are you saying, that athletes are dumb? You better elaborate on what you trying to say.

  • @jeph1984

Lebron graduated with a 3.8 GPA?

  • @jeph1984 lebron def didnt get special treatment there was times they wouldnt let him play

  • If someone if is good enough at 17 let him go! fuck... get off jeremys dick hes going to be a beast anyways.

  • skips retarded and jeremy tyler is a bitch he lost to my school an hes a sore loser

  • hahaha it sounded like some one farted at 5:03

  • this is ridiculous...i can't believe its even being debated...the white guy is an idiot

  • i hate both of these fucks, but i agree with jalen 100%

  • i hate them too, but you are still a professional idiot like the monkey above.

Did it ever occur to you that he could get a degree when he was 30 if it didnt work out?

How long does his top physical condition last?

  • gotta give jalen credit man he's right! it would be safer for tyler to get some kinda credentials just in case he flops, but he's taking a risk. Who knows tho? maybe he has a family to feed so the money cant wait, no tellin what the circumstances are but hopefully he made an informed decision.

  • i dont even like skip... but i definately agree with on this one skip won this arguement

  • chitownmo shut up you god damn turbo nerd

  • LMAO @ hameed why u gotta do chi like that just cuz he's on his dweeby
