  • I love this sound, i don't know why. It's like the best sound you could get from a keyboard!!

  • Where did you get this keyboard?

  • what were you typing on that where you barely paused? was is just random?

  • The Model M--The Steinway of keyboards. They have a wonderful feel to them.

  • The Grandfather of Keyboards. I wanna have one!

  • By Model M does M stand for mechanical because its certainly loud enough to be.

  • @bgriff087 buckling spring mechanical switch to be exact. Only unicomp still make these.

  • @Giefweeds va fan?

  • For those who want a new version of one of these you should try getting one from Unicomp. Very well made.

  • Imagine a whole office building floor full of these :D

  • where can ifind one?

  • I want to play Starcraft 2 on this.

  • @rattoh you're a low league n00b anyway so stick to your current keyboard

  • @AntarcticW0LF top 8 master in my division sup scrub?

  • Oh man, these things were SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than those horrible low end membrane keyboards that are almost all you can find now. I'm on this garbage Microsoft keyboard that is so bad there are better notebook keyboards.

  • Holy sheett.. This thing is older than me.

  • Yes! That's more like it.

  • what the heck has justin bieber got to do with this , sme people r unreal.

  • UGGGG it sounds like sexxxx

  • Sounds like my Razer Black Widow.

  • @xdzyI Try typing on one it's really a lot better.

  • @gaijinblow not really, the razer black widow is also a mechanical keyboard... it's basically an awesome mechanical kb that unfortunately is too glossy.

  • @villadelfia That's what I have. It doesn't feel as good as a model m. I've typed on both.

  • @gaijinblow Ok, I might need to look into getting a unicomp (they make new buckling spring kb's) kb then.

Still, both model M's and cherry mx blue based keyboards are miles above standard "rubber dome" shit.

  • Agreed. My friends go "DURR its just a keyboard" well... try typing on a mechanical keyboard AWESOMEEEE. The keys are a little heavier... require more force to press on a unicomp. I think I will get one soon.

  • Music To My Ears <3

  • what a sound , really fun !

  • eargasm!

  • Ah a clicky keyboard

  • Comment removed

  • Haven't heard that sound in a long time

  • The sound is f*cking amazing

  • @RABBIDGamfan they are they suck they have windows 98 :/

  • buy a new keyboard and sell this one on ebay

  • @runescapemusicman2

Some people collect these - ever thought of people collecting different keyboards? It's no different then collecting movies, video games or baseball or basketball cards.

  • @runescapemusicman2 hell no, why would you replace the best keyboard in the world that will survive anything with those mushy modern pieces of shit.

  • I miss the old keyboards they took being pounded on a lot better.

  • you know whats sad these are the keyboards my school has :c

  • @kingretard100 why is that sad?

  • @kingretard100 It's only sad if the school's computers are that old.

  • buckling spring?

  • Best keyboards ...

  • @EstupedMexicanz my god, dont even try to compare

ps: typed on another old IBM Model M

  • That's a huge bitch.

  • i have a black model m with sticky mouse :D

  • Why would you need an adapter? all of the latest motherboards have PS/2 ports.

  • @GotenSSJ1

    serial port bro

  • I found one of these in a dumpster, it'd been rained on for at least a few days, but took it home dismantled it cleaned it out, and let it dry for a week in the airing cupboard, and I've used it ever since. Lovely keyboard to type on.

  • I've used one of these keyboards since I owned a PS/2. Best keyboard ever made.

  • I so remember these keyboards. The ones I used at my old cable TV production company in the the late 1980s were indestructible. In fact, one of them in still in use today with over 20 years of active use, and has been dropped onto the floor accidentally a few times. Now that is what I call dependability.

  • Uh, I've been using one for two years now. You get used to the sound and it's the best keyboard ever made.

  • it has cherry mx BLUE switches LOL

  • @mikenmbr1 Nope, clear.

  • @mikenmbr1 Nope, the keyboard uses buckling springs, they sound a lot like cherry blues, but feel heavier.

  • @villadelfia jesus guys that was a joke..did not you get the irony of it?

there was no cherry mx switches 20 years ago...

  • Why would you want to use a PS/2 -> USB adaptor? PS/2 is the far superior port for keyboards. I'll never use USB for my keyboards again.

  • Is this why old people are so def? Really though , does ps/2 have any lagg at all? The steelseries 7g uses ps/2 and is know as worlds fastest keyboard with full anti- ghosting

  • typewriter xD

  • Why the hell is this worthy of a video? My main keyboard is a 1992 IBM Model M and you don't see me gallivanting it around the internet.

It's a common board. You can get them anywhere. It's not hard to get a refurbished one.

  • A noter quand meme que dans toutes les vidéos dans le genre, a aucun moment on voie la personne faire un point. Bisarre leur phrases de trois mètres sans un seul point.

  • I love the sound of a mechanical keyboard. They sound so nice and soothing.

  • i use a ps/2 keyboard without an adaptor on my computer which isn't old

bought that keyboard a month ago, works better than usb keyboards i used

  • it's funny how you can plug this old keyboard in to any modern computer and it will work.

  • I spilled milk and coffee over one of these last month..sigh, I really liked the touch and sound, but it was damaged beyond repair

  • @MrRefurbishedBrain How did you manage that? These don't break, ever. Check the controller chip for corroded contacts and resolder it, it should still work.

  • I think I'm in love...

  • heres the Delorian to race Back to the Future:

    ------->>> /watch?v=q9jkfIDE1s0&feature=related

  • It's like Destiny's stream all over again.

  • Now that is clicky, Cherry MX blues you've just been trumped, by 22 year old technology

  • I have one of these I bought off of eBay back in '99. Black, labeled "Dell", however manufacturer is IBM. Not a single key dead but the WASD are almost completely worn off, and is still built like a tank to take a beating. Full-size keys also excellent for WPM increase. If you can get your hands on one of these puppies, friend and foe will hear the keystrokes in nightmares for years to come. Fuck yeah.

  • Does it have a windows key. Typing on a blackwidow ultimate... Its a mechanical gaming keyboard, but I heard so much about this... I might buy it.

  • that is what is called a 'troll' keyboard

  • Someone should spray paint one of these black and add green lighting.

  • @nehkz Can I get a job at Razer?

  • @olliedabomb999 - No, but I'd pay you so fucking much for one.

  • Wait.. How did I end up here?. aw damn it.

  • A true hacker sound... :)

  • BUT DOES THE

QUICK BROWN FOX JUMP OVER THE LAZY DOG

  • that actually looks quite pleasant to type with.

  • They're not that good, I found one at my old job, and used it, but again, it wasn't very good. It sounded ok, but was very loud in the office. No windows key, which is REALLY annoying, and the \ key isn't where it's supposed to be which is a pain if you work in IT.

  • @Designandrew Wrong on all counts.

    (1) they are one of the most durable keyboards you will find.

    (2) Given time (a month or two) you will find your typing speed increases (I can do 30% faster on a Model M - various reports and such abound on the Internet)

    (3) The Windows key is available on the Unicomp branded ones - on the true Model M's lemme give you a hint - the Windows key is called "CTRL-ESC"

    (4) The slash key is exactly where IBM put it - when THEY invented the STANDARD.

  • I want that keyboard.

  • @Tainiae try eBay... I own a few. Including a first run model that's over 25 years old, Three Model M13's, and a space saver version.

  • he didn't hit the backspace once!!

  • I remember that sound! I remember it from my elementary school... Come to think of it, I may have used that keyboard in such a school!

  • that keyboard is bad ass I need one fuck this razer shit

  • Nostalgic sound

  • ooooh nice sound

  • Ah...memores.....this and the good ole dot matrix printers where you had to tear the stupid holey sides off.

  • These also weight as much as my desktop motherboard.

  • sounds like a paintball gun :)

  • legal só que muito antigo

  • how can we know that you are typing anything, you could just press 3249456 random letters :)

  • I want one for gaming...

  • i want one

  • We have similar keyboard in school xD

  • i like the sound...

  • They dont make Keyboards like they used to anymore. The 80's keyboards are the best. In my opinion. at least

  • im in the keyboard part of youtube. O.O

  • @WhatThePresidentSays ikr! scary :/

  • UGH I have a keyboard with the MX Cherry Blue switches but the buckling spring model M keyboards sound like SEXXX

  • i wish i could type that fast

  • That clicking noise... so cool.

  • epic I miss this from the old days.

  • If you're serious about typing, the IBM Model M keyboard is the Stradivarius of keyboards; accept no substitutes. (Actually, I bought a new one at the company that still makes them new and it too, is terrific.)

  • This could have been about 30 seconds shorter. Mad props on those typing skills. Almost took me 2 minutes to write this. Maybe once I hook up my newly acquired Model M, I will be burning the paint off of the keys too.

Has anyone seen the multipledigression typewrite keyboard conversion, or

the steampunkworkshop Model M typewrite key retrofit?

My new inspiration is to have a fully functional Smith Corona USB Typewriter.

  • Sounds like Horse running on keyboard

  • @ataturk1996 or more like a horse high on cocaine...

  • heh we have those at my school! except they don't have the "IBM" on them :)

  • Comment removed

  • I love this keyboard. It is very good for typing on, and has a really good feel. Mine is the same age-made in 1989. do you know what day yours was made on? Mine is november 10th. It would be funny if they were made on the same day. (if they were, could you kindly include the serial number?)

  • what ps/2 to usb adapter are you using? Also how is it for gaming? I heard some PS/2 to usb adapters crap out since you can't hold down a button for long.

  • @jazzgrenade I can't remember exactly which adapter it is, but I'm pretty sure it's Sabrent USB to PS/2 (Dual PS/2) Converter Adapter Cable Model SBT-PS2U (I can't post the link to Newegg, but that's where I bought mine). I've used it with Mac OS X and Ubuntu without problems, so I would think it would work on Windows, too. Not sure how it would be for gaming since I primarily use mine for typing reports.

  • @jazzgrenade get a motherboard and run it PS/2 native, that means you can press every key on the entire keyboard and it will register...

  • @pioneerz450

One of my systems only has USB ports (EVGA motherboard) so I use an adapter for that but on my ASUS X79 and P67 motherboards the Model M plugged directly into the PS/2 doesn't register the DEL key to enter the BIOS once in a while.

  • @jazzgrenade it's pretty good for gaming, if you don't care about those stupid macro keys everybody's obsessed with...

  • @jazzgrenade Why for fuck's sake would you use this keyboard for gaming?

  • @jazzgrenade Model Ms do not have NKRO (you'd have to get a model F if you wanted that). But if you don't need it, I enjoy them for gaming.

The best adapters are known as the "blue cubes", Model Ms don't work [properly] with all adapters.

  • @jazzgrenade

You can't use one of those passive adapters. You have to use an active one, or you'll have problems. The passive ones won't even work with a Mac at all.

I got one from clickykeyboards that works nicely.

  • @jazzgrenade they are great for gaming. If you get one look for the IBM logo in black these are the IBM made ones far superior quality to the later blue IBM logo ones made by lexmark

  • @jazzgrenade go buy a gaming keyboard and mouse with a 1 millisecond response time, instead of a 1/10th of a second response time.

  • @jazzgrenade I use the Model M PS/2 to USB active converter found on clickykeyboards website. It was designed for the model M, it's plug and play (it works perfectly on my Win7-64 and compatibility list is on the website) and it's also good gaming (as far as latency goes, playing something like Stepmania or other reflexe automatisation based games, which is why I use that kind of keyboards) but it's only 4, 5 or 6 KRO depending on the area where you type (if you are a MMORPG or FPS player).

  • i want one too!
