  • I have a question about the Thompson you used. I have seen different models of this gun and some have their bolt on the top and some on the side. Are these from different time periods or is it just a different model?

  • Now imagen having to use the M1-A1 in the trenches during WW2.

  • it is bad ammo

  • If a Thompson Jams on you, It's because you're either using shit ammo, Or you haven't cleaned it in ages. M1A1 thompsons(model in video) are VERY reliable. I have only ever had one jam on me two or three times, I have put thousands of rounds through my Uncles.

  • I go to Vegas again it will be to get that divorce or wants detonate a Nuke out thier in Govt owned CRater lake area..wonder how many babies were concieved fro,m 1950s to now in VEgas????

  • I have cod 5 and the thompson is best war gun because its light, faster reloads, and it shoots faster. I also use dual magiznes with it. Mp40 is also a good gun, but the thompson with dual magazines is better.

  • this isnt a game its real life, please get a life.

ps. games are different from real life....

  • god, another call of duty fan thinks that video games accurately portray firearms

  • first of all, that game is probably the most UNREALISTIC piece of shit game i have ever played

second of all, the point you made doesnt mean shit in real life,

third of all, stop being a faggot thinking you know shit about guns when you havent even shot one before

  • ur stupid

  • was it that hard to put the target picture up right ????

  • Yes it was - they don't let you hang them the right way up at the indoor range as the weapon rises on full auto - you would be spraying the roof. Is that OK with you Einstein???

  • for fucks sake i was just asking...

  • OK ok no worries. It's just that this questionhas been asked Sooooo many times I am over it....

  • Add your answer to the video description. :)

Did they say why it kept jamming?

    I want one SO bad.

  • @anteracmacash lol wow he went off faster than a virgin for the first time

  • M1A1 with a cutts comprensator? Is this custom?

O, well, with a cutts comprensator you wouldn't shoot at the roof it you will fire full auto. But yeah, full-auto isn't very accurate.

Love this video. Nice video, nice gun, nice piece of shooting.

  • Thanks. Ive since been back and had no FTF 's whatsoever. Great fun to shhot!

  • 3 Shot fire? What the hell is it man A SMG Shaped M16A4?

  • He's just shooting a controlled 3-4 shots burst...it's alot more accurate than burning all the bullets in less than 6 seconds..it needs some practice before you can control the bursts perfectly though...

  • Mate you try and fire any longer bursts and see where that gets you - you wil be spraying the roof in no time. As WarrenAch says it's the only way to get any sort of accuracy fro a full auto weapon.

  • replace thethe bolt and the boltcarrier with new one, and replace the spring with an light spring ( but remember the recoil will be much bigger

  • i love the gangster tommys with the drum and foregrip

  • Why is the target upside down?

  • Many gun ranges that allow automatic weapons hold the target upside down, so the recoil of the gun doesn't carry up to the ceiling.

  • Umm...what?

  • Automatic guns have high recoil. They put the target up side down so you aim lower. Gun ranges do this so their ceilings dont get shot.

  • Do these people always go for headshots or something?

  • man..you`ll get jams on any gun.especially if its not cleaned...also,this is an old gun,it would be worn, and i doubt that the ammunition they use at a range is of the highest quality...probably some cheap .45 cal mass produced in China and imported.

  • they jamed alot when they were fresh outa the factory, they over cycle and mis fire due to the faulty bolt design. very unreliable....when they cycle the firing pin does not fire thus no recoil or shot fired to recock the fireing pin resulting in a jam

  • Ammo ammo ammo, 99% of jams

  • ???

  • some ammunition if its cheap, badly made or old causes a firearm to malfunction most of the time. Say you take .45 ACPs from the Korean War and put them into this Thompson, result are a lot of jams and misfires.

  • I love the TOMMY GUN!

  • its not its just hell of old that what happenes with my friends WWII guns

  • i went to las vegas in 2005 and shot the thompson - no jams. mp5 jammed (probably from old age/lots of rounds. if the world turned 28 days later this is what i would be armed with - and i've shot everything full auto.

  • the original USMC M1 variant .45cal(off shoot of the 1921/1927 rarely jammed.

when some companys retooled them for 9mmP

    problems started,

  • Give it some CLP

  • thompson is a good gun but i can leave bruise if u use a wierd ammo.

  • How old is that fucking gun?

  • its a 30 round magazine isnt it with 9mm bullets?

  • .45 ACP. Larger than 9mm.

  • whoops. i knew it was one or the other.

  • its like a certain 9mm round but the top is flat i think mossys right its a little bigger maybe

  • Cheap ammo methinks

  • ..or the magazine is worn out. That's common enough, and gets worse as a weapon ages. It's especially bad if kept loaded at all times, then the spring fatigues at a much faster rate.

  • True, that and I bet that gun could use some cleaning.

  • It would be awsome if that was dual wieldable...

  • I've only shot one a few times, but, I never had a jam. I've shot a few full auto clips. The owner says it only jams if you have a fouled feed ramp or a bent mag.

  • I dont ge tit, On tomaha bach they ran theyre asses of with this weapons without ear protection or Glasses and here they do like you can die already off the sound o.O?

  • but at omaha and utah beach (where the americans landed) there where no walls so the sound did not bounce back.

and no you cant die from the sound i tink...

it is only very painful without ear protection.

  • whats the differance, 10,000 odd guns firing similtaniously on a beach, or a single tommy firing in the enclosed space.

Prob more echo in the firin range

  • I just know that it's enough decibels to make me piss my pants :(

  • ? lol

  • lol, wat?

  • From what I saw, the weapon is not jamming or malfunctioning. the problem is possibly the magazine or the rounds

  • Ah yes, The Chicago Typewriter.

  • The CHOPPER!

  • They should clean the guns better, because when the gun is well cleaned, it rarely jams

  • I've been there. I shot the Thompson and the M249 SAW.

  • nice shooting,nice gun,screw the jams

  • I wouldn't be surprised if the gun needed to be cleaned up, and like weezer601 said, the bullets may not have been seated correctly. I'm not saying you did anything wrong, but the owners of the shop probably only clean those things once a week at best. Like the general consesus on this video has bee, the design is too somple for the gun to simply jam (if it is being properly maintained).

Nice job though of shooting, and I have to admit that I'd love to shoot it, jams and all!! I'm jealous!!!

  • what do you expect from a worn out 70yr old gun

pre86 rental guns get alot of use

US law prohibits them to build new automatic weapons for civilian ownership

back when your grandpa used that gun in the early 1940s it was new or barely used and

    it worked fine

m1a1 are the lowest quality thompsons

    m28 are a little better

    m21 is even better

  • The only time I had problems with a thomplon jamming was because the bulletts were not properly seated in the clip.you should always tap them to the back of the clip before loading.

  • it has a cutts componsator on it? i thought only the tommy gun had that...

  • ..Tommy gun and Thompson are the same thing.

  • id be affraid to use any ammo that i didnt know was grade a, on a gun like that,,, thats not exactly a taurus .38, lol

  • thomspon smgs don't jam, the design is way to simple for that to happen, what you were seing in the vid was the guy running out of ammo in his magazine. it skipped him loading a new one right to the part where he pulls the bolt back.

  • Buddy - I didn't run out of ammo!!! It was jamming OK. And I have editied the video to keep it short. Listen to the shop owner in the background - he says "you still havin problems with that thing" and the reply - :yes!" Get your facts straight and remember - assumption is the mother of all fuckups!

  • Sorry but how can something jam that fires from an open bolt? How much powder was in the bullets

  • Looks like failure to loads and a lot of them.

  • That Thompson jammed for me too, as well as not ejecting casings properly. Their MP40 ran like a dream.

  • for all of those people talking about tommy guns jamming. check the gun first before you buy to make sure you are getting a well made gun. then have a gun smith look at it after you buy so any flaws can be fixed. and use good ammo ether bought or use good powder when reloading. and never use +p ammo it is not always safe to use even if the gun was made to use +p.

  • tru but if anything get an original tommy gun from ww2 they dont fail[it was my grand fathers]

  • i didnt know that winchester was reloaded ammo. Stupid

  • i totally agree with u there

  • wasnt replace by grease gun for that reason was replaced because the thompson costed to much to make so they made the grease gun because it was cheaper

  • yes it was cheaper, and yes that is the main reason, but they did jam alot

  • these stupid things are always jamming, thats why the were replaced with the grease gun, good gun, just jams quite abit

  • my semi auto one always jams as well, l almost was killed, because it exploded on me, and jammed a whole bullet(not shell) in the barrel, and later when i went to clean, out it fell. Scared the crap out of me.

  • just to clear it up, the bullet, not the shell was jammed in my barrel because it exploded...

  • damn man, your lucky! i've always wanted to shoot a thompson sub machine gun. old school mafia style :)

  • Get on down to Vegas - (almost) anything goes!! ;-)

  • Hey sk8forlife90 you really dont know how lucky you are! you live in the US and I guess that in some states you could visit a gun club and perhaps get to shoot one! Here in the UK we only get to see one on Band Of Brothers! But you are right I would love to shoot one myself. We can get them here but only deactivated and unable to fire. Anyway I hope you get to shoot one some day!

  • thanks dude! someday you should tour the us and if your lucky, you can shoot one just like this. there is a place around conneticut or something that you can just about shoot any gun you ever wanted, including miniguns, anti air guns, even rpg's!

  • r u thinking of knob creek kentucky

  • arizona has some places, scottsdale gun club rents them out for 65 bucks

  • maybe, alls i know is it's back east. i thought it might be in the north east, but can't remember. all's i know is that it's the biggest gun club in america

  • Anonymous name calling from behind a keyboard doesn't make you any cooler than it does right kiddo.

  • No froderoo, it's not bullshit. .45 ACP has many "standard loads". Developed in 1906-1907, It was produced by a variety of loadings by the 1940's, using a variety of bullet weights between 110-240 grains. Differing bullet weights and powder charges affect cycling in autoloaders of all types, particularly those using the Blish lock.

  • i love the Thompson MI, its a work of art

  • We need Charles Bronson to make one of these videos.

  • saddam hussein??....i don't understand....-.-'

  • Yeah - A) before he was hanged and B) they had no Osamas and C)seemed like a good idea at the time...

  • oh, ok, thanks.. i'm sorry...i'm a little slow sometimes ;p

  • "B) they had no Osamas and C)seemed like a good idea at the time..."

Man, you should run for pres!:-)

    Nice shooting tho, lovely sound.

  • I see alot of failure to feed, but I didn't see that gun jam once.

Probably caused by the wrong ammunition. Proper subgun ammunition is +P+, (higher powered). Pistol ammunition is much gentler. Unfortunately it is technically both the "same". You often hear of accidents when surplus military 9mm ammunition is used in pistols and ends up breaking the slide stop or frame of the pistol, because it's loaded too hot.

  • They should put a lighter spring in the thompson, that would probably solve the prob.

  • how come the tompson sub machine guns that the gangsters used back in the 1920s/1930s had round magazines but the ones in saving private ryan had different clips?

  • the gansters had drum mags that held alot more ammo. The military used stick mags that held 20-30rds. Don't think I've ever seen a tommygun drum mag in military use. coulda been, but I've never seen it.

  • Correct they were not reliabe enough for military use and took too long to reload, too bulky to carry extra mags etc.

  • plus when they were doing stealth missions in ww2 the rounds would rattle alot reviling there position

  • y did they put a 1928 muzzle on a m1a1 thompson?and did they ever think to clean that gun thats y its jamming

  • 0:44 sounds like somegot hurt :(

  • uh, a little higher for a class 3 full auto. at least the teens. also, your average gunshow rental weapon is not properly cared for. if you take care of it, it will not fail you. if you are a fucktard and never clean your weapons properly or regularly, they will not function the way they are suppossed to

  • you should treat your weapon like it was your own child. only then it will function properly EVERY time.. if taken care of, it will never fail you.

  • no shit you have to clean them so many moving parts in those the mp40 is worse

  • automatics are hardest;i think bolt action is easiest.

  • how much do guns like this usually cost?

  • what era? if you're talking the 1921-1928 models, they'll cost you anywhere from $1,000 to $30,000. You can buy brand new ones that have the original body cast but new wood, barrel, and internal parts for about $1200.

  • u need to take that sum bith apart and oil it up

  • you know it!

  • or just fill up a bathtub with wd40 and throw it in there for a week or 2

  • do not use wd40 on firearms. wd40 is not meant for the high friction and heat that firearms produce. It will only cause more jamming and wear. Use only oil intended for guns such as Rem. Oil.

  • no surprise. these machine gun ranges dont seem to clean there weapons often enough. there fun though arent they

  • Heaps o fun! Everyones gotta have a go even if it does jam!

  • That Thompson jammed for me as well at that store, like 10 years ago. I was also getting full auto fire when I set the selector on "single". Their MP40, on the other hand, shot like a dream. They weren't taking care of the Tommy, is my opinion.

  • Not Powerful? Kill someone only inside 50 meters?!!! I friggin wouldn't want to get hit by a .45 at 51 meters! 230 grains of lead at about 900 fps. Somebody check a ballistics chart and see what kind of ft/lbs that suckers making at that distance. I think its like 365 at the muzzle, probably still more than 200 at that distance. I think what you mean to say is that its only accurate within 50 meters (debatable). Even if it didn't kill you outright shes gonna leave a mark!

  • yea, how the hell is someone going to say its not deadly past 50 meters? The thompson was never about accuracy, it was about spraying lead ALL over the place.. I wouldnt want one of those things pointed at me...

  • i dotn care if your shooting .50 cal or .22's i dont want anything shot at me.

  • haha me too

  • mmkay... cool, lot of recoil

  • Thompsons Kick Ass!

  • Its a 45 acp not a 30-06!!!

  • It's a close range sub machine gun not a long range assault riffle...lol It was not meant to for long range. That's why it wasn't standard issue in WW2 the m1 Garand was. My two favorite guns of all time.

  • omg the thompson's purpose wasn't "kill them at 60+ meters" u fricken spray the enemy wit lead! At a close-medium range! shootin some1 at long range wit dis, good luck tryin to hit em. waste some clips. m1 garand was made for hittin them at a far range. its more accurate than the thompson

  • Yeah, compared to the other smg's during tht period, the thompson was shit, because the other smg's could shoot farther than 100 meters

  • originally sold in hardware stores for $200-times have changed

  • dude that was 200 bux back in 1940's.. today that would be like over 2000 dollars..... everything is relative.

But i do have to say it would be cool to head out to the local "ace" hardware and pick up a tommy gun.. lol

  • thanks for the economics 101 genius!at the rate of todays inflation what would be the price of a thompson now?about the same as a barrel of oil?

  • i know that i can get an original thompson for about 20k... hows that for inflation.

  • maybe when you grow up you can have one.

  • this is a very reliable weapon. this jamming shown in the vid was due to either poor care of the weapon, or a grain of bullet differrnt to the kind that the weapon was originally designed to shoot.

  • i love this thing .45 cal

  • probly shitty care of the gun, alot of times itll happen if the gun isnt cleaned and greased with the right stuff.

  • 45 cal ammo's expensive man

  • prolly shitty ammo

  • I want one where can i get it? the only one i could find was a semi-auto replica.

  • You do realize a registered thompson costs $20,000 right? Then you must pay the tax and register it. Some have sold on impactguns. Contact a class III SOT holder. You must have the proper ffl to transfer title II weapons.

  • thats an orginal from WWII a full auto modern manufactured would go into the $8,000. Orginals today are rare collectors items.

  • but then again i was shooting alot with my dads benneli m3 semi auto for while

  • tommyguns nice never shot one though, but beter yet ive shot a 20 round mag with 308. win fn fal, whish i had a picture of my shoulder a day later

  • i prefeer the german weapons

  • Hows about the BAR?

  • in your little video game right?

  • come on, just cuase he said that doesn't mean he hasn't shot any german weapons, ive shot an MP-40 and i like that better than any other gun ive shot

  • i shot a training kar98. its a trainer so it only shoots individual rounds. there isnt a 5 round clip. its pretty fun

  • im sure, i would like to try out more German guns

  • you dont think i did? i have it in my room

  • no i meant it im sure it would be fun, as in i believe you shot one and i think it would be fun as well. my dad dont display nothin, he keeps em locked away, except for the .22 but theres no problem with them bein locked up

  • mp-40s are great. Kind of awkward to hold at first but that thing has no recoil at all being so heavy.

  • well i shot a law enforcement version of the MP-40 and ran a course and shot a 29/30 with it, missed one shot. yeah its a real nice gun

  • I only have a video of my dad shooting my friends nfa mp-40 in my account. I've only put a couple mags through it. A classic for sure.

  • i love the tommy!!! good vid

  • Yep da best weapon in WWII

  • my favourite weapon!

  • the ROT is awesome...

  • lol, i mean ROF

    Rate of fire

  • It had a lot of kickback because of the heavy .45 round and a high rate of fire, so it was difficult to get great accuracy with though. Great weapon Either way.

  • The gun was probably jamming because the interior of the gun hadn't been cleaned properly

  • thats a nice gun...wanna trade lol jk

  • The Defencemodell 38 (thommys gun or thompson) shot full automatic or semi automatic but the burst of 3 shots...that was a later version with 30 bullet clip and not the old 20 bullet one. And the dudes in the video shot that "stupid" because the weapon got very strong aiming that you are not able to hold it down. It´s better to shoot in bursts....like with most automatic guns.

  • What do you mean "the dudes in the video shot that stupid because the weapon got very strong aiming?" Speak english! You don't make sense! It's called muzzel flip and without a Cutts Compensator (as is the case with this particular weapon) then you do experience muzzle flip quite dramatically. And also it is possible to do 3 shot bursts by releasing your trigger finger at the right time! You don't have to have a 3 shot burst selector switch.... if indeed such exists?

  • if that was on full auto the whole time then them must be in awful condition

  • I was doing double & triple taps not full auto :-)

  • Any weapon will jam if you use crappy ammo. They take good care of their stuff there. I used to go in there all the time. Thats what happens when 150 tourists a day shoot it. CRAP WEARS DOWN!

  • I see - maybe 4 a day going by their records but I get your point!

  • what happens is that you're not cleaning the weapon properly

  • Really? A gun store would usually clean their $12,000 machine gun pretty thoroughly I would think!

  • belive me they wouldn't, some of them don't know shit about that

  • wow, im happy, i was able to get the fully-auto P90 today :D

  • Sweeeeeeet!! Get those videos up asap!!!

  • yh, but as its Full-auto its jamming a LOT but im loveing the mag :D

  • poor thing

  • shooting at an upside down target? Is he expecting people to hang from the ceiling and cap him ala the professional with Leon or like on Boondock Saints?

  • lol yeah not really true-to-life I'll admit! We have been discussing that - might be time to try the other range down the street!

  • To bad they do not make the full auto version anymore:(

but at least you can still buy the semi automatic versions :D ( but still automatic is cooler )

    GODFATHER RULES!!

  • im sure you can find the original blue print and have a machinist make those Full auto parts.

  • what the hell? why was my post deleted? I was speaking truth. pffft, wutever, waste your money on shit quality.

  • Sorry not sure what you mean - I haven't deleted any comments? What do you mean by shit quality?

  • i dont think you (andy) deleted my comment but the youtube admin. prolly some prick in here (im gonna gues the Guns Store affiliated) reported my post as spam and it got deleted. Andy, you prolly remember this, it was a comment on another gun range in Vegas that allow full auto and upside target shooting. You even sent me an email for direction. And by shit quality, i was refering to the Gun Store in general. Expensive ammo, limited arms, retarded rules, and uptight personels.
