As an RN in Infectious Diseases, we now no longer allow the children to remain upright when they are diagnosed with pertussis, We lay them face down with the head turned to the side to prevent aspiration. Obviously, this video is a little dated

I have had pertussis for the past 3 weeks and I'm 43 years old. It hurts and I haven't slept for more than an hour since it started. I wish I had my booster shot before I got this. I can't wait until I am over this and can finally sleep laying down.

I sympathize with these poor kiddies because I as an adult recently cane down with this nasty cough. Just this morning, I coughed up a crapload of mucus and simply could not inhale and felt lightheaded afterwards due to oxygen starvation. It's like trying to clear a clogged toilet with a plunger..the more you cough and try to inhale, the mucus rides up and down the windpipe and makes it hard to inhale. But for what it's worth, expelling this gunk was a good thing. I'm going to see my doc!
I'm an adult of 35 and I have recently come down with this exact condition. Same barking type cough with shitloads of mucus and upon inhaling, you gasp for air because your windpipe is constricted and blocked with mucus. The feeling of suffocation is like no other when you cannot breathe for a minute and you feel as if your life is slipping away. I am going to see a doctor for this condition, but for now, I've been sleeping with a humidifier on and limiting my exposure to cold.

The poor little guy was litterally hanging over the toilet for over an hour coughing like this w/mucus pouring out of his nose and mouth. It just angers me that some parents out there aren't getting their kids the very much needed immunizations! Remember when dealing with the health industry is that a second opinion is incredibly valuable. Doctors are usually fantastic people and good at their work, but the body is complex and it's possible to draw the wrong conclusion from physical symptoms (and the same goes for mental ones). When you're looking at going to make a financial decision and see investment groups, you get a second opinion: why don't people do that with their precious bodies generally? Best of luck!

I had two baby cousins who had the whooping cough for five months. January to June. They were too young at the time to be given the vaccination and once they fell ill, they couldn't be given the vaccination. It was horrible. The pertussis vaccine saves lives. Unfortunately there is a small percentage of people who vaccinated can still get the disease. However the vast overwhelming majority of those vaccinated are protected from the disease. Equally important, vaccinated individuals cannot spread pertussis to newborn babies who are too young to receive the vaccine and very likely to die of it.

Actually, the doctor who wrote the study suggesting that autism was linked to MMR vaccinations was banned from practicing medicine, because it was flawed and he had absolutely no credibility. Some research was done into it afterwards but no link was found. So conclusion, no link to autism yet discovered.

I have had pertussis for the past 3 weeks and I'm 43 years old. It hurts and I haven't slept for more than an hour since it started. I wish I had my booster shot before I got this. I can't wait until I am over this and can finally sleep laying down.

Earlier this year, my daughter caught whooping cough at 2 months old. It was the most horrible thing I've ever been through...three straight weeks of watching her cough until she lost her breath and turned blue. She pulled through, but there were moments I wondered if she would. And some babies aren't that lucky. Vaccinate your kids! And keep up their booster shots, too. It's not as rare as you might think anymore.

I am just getting over this. Those poor kids had it so much worse. My brother had it first and I called and talked to the nurse at his doctors and said he was whooping and almost passing out. He came home with a sinus inf diagnosis and no antibiotics, so I caught it -grrr. want to meet that doc. I sympathize with these poor kiddies because I as an adult recently cane down with this nasty cough. Just this morning, I coughed up a crapload of mucus and simply could not inhale and felt lightheaded afterwards due to oxygen starvation. It's like trying to clear a clogged toilet with a plunger..the more you cough and try to inhale, the mucus rides up and down the windpipe and makes it hard to inhale. But for what it's worth, expelling this gunk was a good thing. I'm going to see my doc!

I'm an adult of 35 and I have recently come down with this exact condition. Same barking type cough with shitloads of mucus and upon inhaling, you gasp for air because your windpipe is constricted and blocked with mucus. The feeling of suffocation is like no other when you cannot breathe for a minute and you feel as if your life is slipping away. I am going to see a doctor for this condition, but for now, I've been sleeping with a humidifier on and limiting my exposure to cold.

I think I have whooping cough right now I thought I had a really bad cold it started out vomitting sniffles coughing and my entire body sore to the point of minimal movement. then I was in the hot shower like 3 days ago (i have been sick for a week) and I was coughing so hard I was crouched on the floor of the shower I couldn't breath I was vomiting up thick mucas it was pouring out of my nose then I had a white flash and i had blood coming out of my eyes in my tears. it was scary.

The reality is that all vaccines have only a 5-10 year length of effect, the point of them is to relieve a child of getting an illness that their body cannot handle.
Yes, Pertussis is one of those vaccines that is important as during the earliest stages of whooping cough a parent can -easily- just think their child has the sniffles - next thing you know, the cough comes and the child can't breath.

im only in high school so im not planning on having kids anytime soon. but i still think its a good idea for people to be educated in these kinds of situations in case it happens to their kids.

My 4 1/2 yr. old was just diagnosed this afternoon with Whooping Cough. The poor little guy was litterally hanging over the toilet for over an hour coughing like this w/mucus pouring out of his nose and mouth. It just angers me that some parents out there aren't getting their kids the very much needed immunizations! This is just one of the dangerous illnesses out there that can be prevented more times than not, if they get their shots!

My neice has been told its bacterial, so after 6 months of being told its viral, it is not and now it has damaged her lung tissue, permenantly. I am thinking of suing them for the pain they have put her through. She needed antibiotics 6 months ago. I am sick of hearing it all the time that it is 'viral'. Ask your doc next time' give me proof or reasons how you came to that conclusion'.

Remember when dealing with the health industry is that a second opinion is incredibly valuable. Doctors are usually fantastic people and good at their work, but the body is complex and it's possible to draw the wrong conclusion from physical symptoms (and the same goes for mental ones). When you're looking at going to make a financial decision and see investment groups, you get a second opinion: why don't people do that with their precious bodies generally? Best of luck!

I had two baby cousins who had the whooping cough for five months. January to June. They were too young at the time to be given the vaccination and once they fell ill, they couldn't be given the vaccination. It was horrible. Every time I saw the poor angels they were coughing up a storm. They were alright in the end, and thankfully they were given the vaccination after wards. I would never not give a child the vaccination against this.

Yes, you get the vaccine as a baby, but not as a newborn. So babies can catch some nasty illnesses before they get the vaccines. That's why herd immunity is so important: it protects the vulnerable, like babies and people with compromised immune systems.

By 1985, this figure had dropped to 5 and has remained at that level until today, even though from 1975 until 1995, virtually no whooping cough vaccinations were carried out! Germany now has a population of 84 million. More children get brain injured or killed by the vaccine than from the disease.

it's not their fault. Whooping cough is caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis. It causes damage in your lungs and block it up with increased mucous production that's why the babies are making the whooping sound.

Having said all that, isn't the government all about trying to save money? So why would they tax our money and then waste it on something that doesn't save them or make them money? Vaccines have been shown to have a LOT of clinical benefit. I would strongly urge you to do some research online - by which I mean proper, creditable medical studies rather than websites, pro or anti.
