"Nigga" is an empty word with no meaning, and no definition. That is, no meaning other than that which you (and others) have placed on it. It is definitely not worth making a video about. You should consider making a video about the word cracker; it has a long history, too. I recommend the books "Cracker Culture", and "Cracker."
I enjoyed the very beginning of this video when you described the carjacker who believed he was "keeping it real." You should have stayed with that theme.
i don't think you watched the whole video. look again. if you found meaning in me making light of the "keepin' it real" set, the rest of the video follows that theme outside the black community, into politics, everyday life.(minute 8:28-8:50). look a the video again with that idea then ask me any question about what you still don't understand. right now, you may be guilty of seeing/hearing what you want and not what's presented. look again, blue. ask questions. i'll be happy to answer.
classic. my hat's off. i like the way you presented this video. the audio (for me) actually helped to enhance the content of your video. meaning it had a distinct feel. anyway, great lyrical content. thanks for posting this.
the audio is jarring, a bit crazed, off the wall... kinda like the arguments presented about this jarring subject. 'ppreciate your thoughts. take a look at my other vids. feedback always welcomed.
What I like about this message, is that it is not simple. Historically that is how we portrayed messages.. In our music, in our religions, in our traditions. It has never been spelled out 'this is what's wrong- this is what we need to do'. It was symbolic, it was poetic, it was beautiful. There are so many things you have said within this that could be expounded upon, and there are so many thing I will re-visit and think about.

i will email you. today i talked to a prof at a nearby univ. about delivering workshops featuring all my vids. i've come to the conclusion that my text is too dense. a lot of shit here and in all the other vids. anyone who takes the time to look tells ms they have to do it two or three times to get it all. that's not speaking to people today w/o time or attention spans. i gotta simplify notions.
What you've said is exactly the dilemma I find myself in when trying to explain to people- even if they're open to what i'm saying for a second. But i don't think i can sum it up in a second. it takes two or three times for me to even digest. It is complex, and to simplify would be to not be as complete, thus not as much message. But I believe in growth of knowledge, too. I remind myself that even the three R's take semester after semester to learn.
REGRESSIVENESS is the key factor that is hurting our black community! The whites has ruined our history, but we must get past that "it's the white man's fault" way of life and move on! We must be PROGRESSIVE and encourage other blacks to go to college, obtain a CAREER, practice financing, and ENJOY LIFE! Life is not about rap videos, sex, money, and blaming the white man. Life is met to be enjoyed by ALL people. If we live a progressive way of live, less black men will be locked up in jail!
you're saying something the best of black folk have always believed and aspired to. those good folks have always existed and will always exist. you just gotta look. there are positive signs out there. i know you see them. keep pointing them out to those who have lost focus.
This is a deep and thoughtfully done video, the use of the word Nigger is something i am very uncomfortable with as a white man, however i am also aware of how a lot of people have taken this term and reclaimed it in some way. What you have posted here is very interesting indeed and I would love to see more on this subject, "We can only learn from those effected so we may understand our actions" my grandmother once said, this is a video in that stream of thought for me.
thank you brotha. keep searching for truth. when a man knows himself, meaning matters, not words. i hate the n-word. i like learning. i like language. if a man wants to say something, find a word that gets at what needs to be said... i doing a video series you may find interesting. i'd love to get your take as a white man searching. the seres is titled "oil (black and liquid in modernity)". it's a playlist on my page. come by. feedback requested.

This was cool and well done. I teach Middle School to a class of 99.9% Hispanic kids and they sometimes call each other 'Nigga'. They say it the exact way they call each other 'Fool'. Anyone who thinks it's just a term of endearment is fooling him/herself. At the end of the day it is a put-down, no matter how you slice it.
debates on TV, news papers. Do we learn from history? Surely our ancestors must have noticed signs as well. Signs of the Time. We live in a linear time concept. Heavens holds on to the circular concept; two different realities. No wonder we're getting confused, when we 'forget' to connect out spirit with the Spirit from above and so we 'forget' His Name as well... Bless
True, yet how does one decode signs by their quantity, quality, the frequency and the speed in which they succeed one another in comparison with ancient, old, past and present times; linear versus circular?
will flow from an impure heart (James 3:6; ' The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity...'). Or even those two words are generically interchangeable. What about our mindsets, are they interchangeable as well? And our spirits, who are supposed to be our captains, by what compass do they sail? What map are we using? What signs do we look for? The signs in the Heavens or in the political arena,
The everyday contradiction/battle of spirit against flesh, therefore a psychic displacement into what realm? Yet you/I know 'you/me/I', who is the 'you/me/I'? The deceitful heart of human kind, yet so as he (she) thinketh so he (she) is (Proverbs 23:7). And what he/she is on the inside (heart) comes out of the mouth and defiles (the surrounding). No wonder words like 'N' or, 'B' in my case,
seems like you want me to just get the word G-O-D out of my head and onto the screen. make it plain. is that so?... as long as the message of truth is called and action spurred... right?
'The message of truth and action spurred', you are right about that. In my enthusiasm I just shared my flow of thoughts with you, not to squeeze something out of your head onto the screen. Sorry, if it seemed that way :-)
Great vid with an awesome message. I had to rewind it a couple of times though, to keep on track with your flow, yet I have some questions as well. Personal liberation surpassing social graduation of predestination? Liberation of the confused mind filled with false images, which seems to be an entanglement of the 'me' who is intend on 'doing' one thing, yet as a person doing something else? The everyday contradiction/battle of spirit against flesh,
we live in a self-help, each man fix his own problem by himself world. little community building as the world knew it. it's happening though. youtube, for example, IS a community. or maybe these vids are individual wants collected on a page? just seems when there was much to change in the unfair world, people set afoot. i'll post something else on the present condition later. i like zygmunt bauman's thoughts on "liquid modernity". read his books. astute observer of the modern milieu.
And a close community it is, stuck together on one website in a digital figures and numbers reality/world! If I can get a hold of that book I most certainly will. Thanks
kwame who?... oh, the De-twah mayor. if you do the crime then it's ""catalogued for oblivion." imagine franklin delanor roosevelt trying to run for office today? his whole life turned topsy turvy. the press kept his polio out of the national spotlight. for the sake of decency. imagine that... today, we've all become fallible men. all debased to each other's levels. hard to be a hero. they will find your faults and get you.
I was just thinking if MLK was in this situation, instead of the FBI bugging his phones they could have just read his text messages. I am surprised that Kwame has not made reference to his "Alpha" brother as an example of moving beyond your personal transgressions.
well, not many folks know 'bout MLK's transgressions. and it don't matter. history will remember him as he's created his heaven with other words and deeds. kwame? he gotta put in a whole heap of "good" hours in the years to come.
That is some deep conscious stuff my man. Thanks for sharing that. But for me, Nigga, Nigger, Nigwhatever is nonsense and simply a word that belittles us all. You can't call a red chair blue because you feel it would be cooler or a movement to do so - the chair will always be red. If Nigger means inferior, animal, garbage - then it always will no matter what slang we throw on it. I'm no Nigger and no conscious Black person is!
Rappers not EMCEES are so afraid of speaking their minds today, speaking the truth, fearing that they wont be respected. It's such a shame that being an intelligent emcee in this modern era is considered wack. Speak your mind brother. Keep telling like it is. One/Bless
i have so much respect for folk like mos def, talib, all the "soulquarians" in the picture in this vid, continuing a tradition of telling what is and how it can be. storytellers. african griots.
Speak your mind! Thats what time it is! There are more intelligent brother/ sisters than not! We love intelligence and truth. The other man is feeding you that because he has the resources to promote that type think! Look around you brother we are much more than that. It is the beginning of a new ERA. Our consciousness has been risen we just need to collaborate. We need to understand one man is never bigger than the cause. We can have our own agenda but that one idea has to be homogenous.
I love that Nigga! I cry for that Nigga! My heart burns for that Nigga! I see him trying to swim! That Nigga is drowning! I reach out to save him; he attempts to pull me in!! Should I let go? Should I drown with him? Where's MY NIGGA! He is lost!! I struggle to help him find his identity , but at what cost? At the cost of my OWN identity?
not at all. anyone who can appreciate james baldwin... and who lived with the man... you got a connection to something universal. we should all aspire to be the "nigga" saul williams describes in "sha clack clack". have you heard him read his poem. if not do so soon and watch his movie "slam" if you haven't yet.
