i love nirvana and i know things you never wanted to know about kurt cobain lol i love this beacause i play viola guitar and occasionally violin. i love this.
hmm.. idk, im a classical violinist and like a huge range of music, but this i can't stand listening to. its like the way they play sounds almost robotic... maybe its because this music is not meant to be classical, and when its put with strings, it just doesn't work. I understand that orchestras accompany rock bands and pop bands, but when the melody is taken over by the violinist in these types of music, it fails.
there is no "good" and "bad" music. its entirely subjective. It all depends on how the succession of certain sounds appeals to a person's senses. (sorry for the tongue twister)
@blinkystop Not true. ''Good'' music is soulful, passionate, created by the person for self expression. Not manufactured or created for the soul purpose of making money.
@briannacollins44 "Good" and "Bad" music is subjective. I believe you are referring to how complex the music is, it normally takes a more intelligent person to understand/appreciate complicated pieces of music.
This is still simple music, just played by a string quartet. Most people assume that liking and hearing what is basically a "pop" song played by string instruments gives them some sort of sophistication and knowledge.
Listen to a Violin Concerto if you want more "intelligent" music.
@ConfinedAbrasion you dont need to analyze it that much buddy. I'm not looking to define our already made up definition. I never said complex music was intelligent music, my comment wasn't a theory just an opinion. I did not say good music was intelligence but good senses usually are. Implying that I think this music gives me sophistication and knowledge is ignorant enough.
@briannacollins44 Dont take it personally kid, I`m only stating known facts on musical perception/intelligence. (There are countless university studies to back it up)
I aim it towards ignorant people who claim to love string instruments, but only listen to Apocalyptica/Vitamin String Quartet, you ask them what their favourite pieces are and they reel off pop songs played by strings. That is totally fine, but ignoring 400+ years of beautiful classical music for strings is ignorance.
@ConfinedAbrasion Or maybe they don't like the way the clasical music sounds? Just because they like the pop songs doesn't mean they haven listened to and appreciated the classical music.
@blinkystop Well, there kindof is. If the singer can't hit the notes, the different instruments are in out of time, not how they were intended to be, etc,
@300warrior300 i've heard good music b4 that has off timing, amaturish vocals, etc. you're talking about performance skills, not musical composition. you can have shit performance skills and still create great music.
@blinkystop I think you're terribly wrong, there are "good" and "bad" music... -"It all depends on how the succession of certain sounds appeals to a person's senses"- it's a stupid argument, you're just trying to sound smart :) a person can love (for example) Rap, but it stills shitty anyway: three notes on the entire song and a guy talking fast...
@ElMarkyMix I can somewhat agree with what you're saying here, although I agree with blinkystop, too. For example, I don't think there is "good" music or "bad" music.. that it's all a matter of what sounds good to the ear. On the other hand, I'll listen to something and know it's complete shit, but still love the hell out of it. Who knows. Just love what you love and be done with it.
@ElMarkyMix i hate to say this but you just uttered total bullshit there, in all honesty rap is more like poetry then most other genres. saying rap is shit is completely undermining those who devoted their musical career through rhyming a story with excessive wordplay. For that matter, saying any genre is shitty is totally undermining how someone decided to live out their musical career on a worldwide scale.
@TheMusicislife135 Rap is Crap, dude. Get over it. If you want GOOD music listen to Classical, Jazz, & Blues, soul, tango, all kinds of metal and rock. 'Nuff said
@ElMarkyMix how many times have i heard that.. lol. believe it or not im into alternative rock, metal, anything you can imagine, minus jazz and country, just doesnt interest me, so dont think i am just this kid who only likes rap, i am very very selective about the rap i listen to
-> The 10s are going to be the worst yet, if you look at trends.
Personal taste may make you appreciate one of the popular genres at the time, but the trend of music is always to get worse and worse except for niche markets. Death metal in the 90s was a glorious time, for example, but became slightly mainstream in the late 90s / early 00's - and is still sucking (and recovering).
oh my god when i first saw that they did this i thought it was going to be bad like when they did linkin park faint but i was severly proven wrong @_@
@yaj377 You're kidding, right? The 90s were a horrible time for music. Grunge has redeeming features but it played itself out. Pop punk doesn't. The pop that permeated the 90s was even worse.
Pop nowadays has devolved into autotuned singing with uncreative techno though, so I guess the 90s could have been worse.
It seems the trend is to have the popular music become easier and easier to play, so I imagine eventually ambient / minimalist soundscapes will become the "in" thing eventually.
@TSEDTIKS I'm talking about mainstream music in the 90s there was great mainstream rock death metal is never going to be mainstream there's not enough melody in it!
@yaj377 part of me doesn't even want to think about how bad music will have gotten by then, I mean we're already hearing "music" from Lady Gaga and Ke$ha every time we turn the radio on, it's sad :(
@ColonelBrittay Though I do agree with you, I think that's just what most people these days think as music. When Rock first came out, most people thought it was outlandish and didn't prefer to listen to it. then it kicked off. then rap and pop came out and I'm sure eventually a new music genre will come out to replace rap and pop, and for a bit most people won't like it. It'll cycle. maybe the days of good O'll rock will return one day.

The melody should be played at kurt sang it. Classical violinists will tell you he's out of tune, but fuck them. It sounds better. He didn't know it, but he was singing with microtonal beauty.
You take away drums from Dave Grohl and this is what you get.

this kinda helps realize what a great and truely epic and emotion filled song smells like teen spirit is, even this version has a very angsty feel.

The melody should be played at kurt sang it. Classical violinists will tell you he's out of tune, but fuck them. It sounds better. He didn't know it, but he was singing with microtonal beauty.
Having said that, this is still pretty damn cool
