hmm.. idk, im a classical violinist and like a huge range of music, but this i can't stand listening to. its like the way they play sounds almost robotic... maybe its because this music is not meant to be classical, and when its put with strings, it just doesn't work. I understand that orchestras accompany rock bands and pop bands, but when the melody is taken over by the violinist in these types of music, it fails.

This is still simple music, just played by a string quartet. Most people assume that liking and hearing what is basically a "pop" song played by string instruments gives them some sort of sophistication and knowledge.

Listen to a Violin Concerto if you want more "intelligent" music.

Personal taste may make you appreciate one of the popular genres at the time, but the trend of music is always to get worse and worse except for niche markets. Death metal in the 90s was a glorious time, for example, but became slightly mainstream in the late 90s / early 00's - and is still sucking (and recovering).

@yaj377 You're kidding, right? The 90s were a horrible time for music.  Grunge has redeeming features but it played itself out. Pop punk doesn't. The pop that permeated the 90s was even worse.

Pop nowadays has devolved into autotuned singing with uncreative techno though, so I guess the 90s could have been worse.

It seems the trend is to have the popular music become easier and easier to play, so I imagine eventually ambient / minimalist soundscapes will become the "in" thing eventually.

When Rock first came out, most people thought it was outlandish and didn't prefer to listen to it. then it kicked off. then rap and pop came out and I'm sure eventually a new music genre will come out to replace rap and pop, and for a bit most people won't like it.
