uhmm this is interesting, this is a turbo fan engine....that movement outside the engine works so the flow of trust is reverse to the momentum of the airplane and stop faster that a normal turbo fan engine... this will save money to airports :)...this is what i call good engineering....

@atami210 bypass air (also known as cold stream) is the air ducted around the actual internal combustion part of the engine and creates 85% of the thrust energy created by the engine, by opening the doors on this engine it releases the bypass air out the side of the engine and redirects it forward thus taking 85% of the thrust away from exhaust and slowing the a/c down :)

@atami210 Not only the sleeve moves back, but also at the same time latches close inside so all the air goes forward at 45 deg. angle. That way instead of all the thrust going back, most of it goes forward slowing the ac down. Most effective down to about 60 kts.
