if Gary bettman had put as much energy into keeping the whalers, nords and jets as he has with Nashville and the other crumbs they would still be here...
I miss the Whale so much, and ironically live in NC now. I couldn't help but root for the Canes, but I still call them the Whale. They'll never die. I miss those days at the mall.
whalers were the shit, i go to school at UNCC now and honestly noone cares about hockey such bullshit they should be still in CT. im going to game 4 friday and deff rocking the whalers jersey obviously
i can't get this one to play for some reason - but maybe thats just as well. i remember this game vividly - the whalers had recently suffered the loss of kevin dineen (broken wrist?) and were still hanging tough and in the thick of the playoff race. but this game was a dagger. a total dagger. even though i can't see the video, i still remember in my mind's eye marek malik playing adam oates to shoot on a 2-on-1 in overtime. playing oates to shoot? that's like hitting on a 20 in blackjack.
He plays in a men's league right up the street from me, in Raleigh, NC. great guy....he plays defense, and uses the butt-end of his stick to play....and still passes like his stick was turned the right way....unbelievable!
stupid lack of salary cap back then. If the lockout of 1994-1995 would have lead to something (like the 2004-2005 one did) maybe we would still have Whalers, Jets and Nordiques.
Yeah, it was on WFSB that night...showing poeple coming in after that road trip, where we went 5-1.....is that the same year, or am I thinking about a different year?
This game was the same year as the 5-1 road trip but different month. In Feb, we go on an inprobable 5-1 road trip and I think lose Dineen in the process. Our first home game back was on Valentine's against the fuckin Bruins. I was so pumped to carry this momentum but like so many times before, my hopes get dashed and we lose 3-0.
it always seems to me that the whalers seems like a all star team so many of its players went on to win cups

I'm suprised that the Whalers were wearing their away jerseys in their home game.
GarthBeatty 2 years ago
They both had white jerseys on so the whalers used their dark jerseys that game

I thought in 1996 the home team would wear their white jerseys and the road team would wear their dark jerseys....

i remember this game vividly. only because of the massive feeling of being kicked in the gut after. possibly the worst games ever.
