The melody was also used for the song 'Time Was', something of a hit in the USA in 1940. It is on Youtube; the original is from Mexico, titled 'Duerme', meaning 'Sleep', and is also available on Youtube. Enjoy!
One of the veterans in this video had a picture of my father's plane "Stag Party" and his crew.....Is is possible to find out the gentleman that was in the film? I have the same photo. I would love to correspond with him about my father's time over in England. Thanks!
Always a personal fave of all the WWII era planes. Heavily fortified for a reason! Quite possibly the best combat aircraft ever built. Best chance to return home of all the bombers.
a great plane, a great bunch of guys, thank you for this compilation of planes and thank you to the once young men/boys who were so brave, and to the still young men/boys who will never grow old, who still own the skies.
Shame knowone had the foresight to keep some of those ships back then in totally origional condition. Nose art, missions, kills, crewnames armament the lot what a treasure it would be now! I guess you could have bought one of those back then for scrap value relatively cheaply, l would have had a couple. The B17 what a classic ship.
I wonder how many of those ships were lost. A real shame the orginal 9 0 9 was broken up by the junkman... "doesn't he get everything in the end"??...
4,750 lost in combat. several thousand more lost due to accidents or scrapped due to heavy combat damage. roughly 50 total complete or partial air-frames in existence today, with a dozen or so flyable at any given time. only TWO of the survivors are actual combat veterans..."memphis belle", and "shoo shoo baby" from the 91st bomb group...both at the museum of the Air Force in Dayton.
oooops ! yes, you are correct. I forgot about the Swoose on both accounts. it is a 'survivor' and the only D model. I recently saw some info that seemed to indicate the Swoose may be finally moving after being stored all this time. hopefully this means somebody will put it back together again. cant recall particulars of the deal, but sitting in pieces (like it has) in a warehouse is sure a big waste.
Salute to our WW2 vets. These guys had huge spines and large balls... just to think on some missions they risked a 1 in 4 chance of dying and they still got into those planes. Hoorah guys... God bless ya.
lol the nose art realy brings out the freedom and indivdual independance of The American way , Ill bet the german fighters wondered "wtf?" when they saw the nose art.Thinking no disapline not profosnal ect. But the independint thinking and making due is where Americans won the war

Nice. I am looking for info on planes with "I Dood It" for my Red Skelton page. It would be nice to have video or interview from crew.

This was sent to me by the daughter of 2nd Lt. James A. Lantz, pilot of a B-17 in the Bloody 100th group. I stuck this one in one of my favorites.

Brilliant!!!
I wonder if anyone has a picture of the nose art of "The Lucky Lady" from 452nd Bomber Group, 8th Air Force, operating from Deopham Green, England.
This B17 crashed over North Holland on the 20th of January 1945

wow! Excellent video. The B17 is definately one of my favorite planes (without a doubt). Any idea who the singer of the song is?
damianprice 5 years ago
Not really. I recorded it at a B-17 unit reunion.
flynbrick 5 years ago
@damianprice The singer on the Nose Art video - B17, that you enquired about 3 years ago, is AL BOWLLY and the song he sang was called ' DREAMING' :)
