maybe not many people knows it, but actually Lou Reed in person stated that this album was a joke, a bullshit. He was just sick of all the success he had and then made this shit. He'd laugh at you if you say that you listened through all the album and actually enjoyed it. Btw, i personally enjoy this noise sometimes, in small doses, and i'm happy that noise music exists also because of this.
OK man I love Lou Reed but I seroiusly don't get this and I'm not in the mood to pretend I like this shit, it feels like been trapped inside a Marshall amplifier during a concert by the who
The sound of Lou Reed on drugs. Lou Reed annihilates your consciousness. Fortunately this effect is only temporary. This is the sound of the orgasms of angels, over and over and over. Sixteen minutes is far too much for humans to take.
@doctorx0079 obviously you haven´t heard this piece of necrotic nightmare, humans can take it,they might be stubborn, and with a headache, but it can be done,i know it cause i did it,on two sittings but i did, part 4 is the worst part
@mrtommyhendrix1 so you really don't feel anything when you listen to this? if so then i just feel bad for you, because i don't even know the word for how awesome this is. maybe transcendental. it's pure energy. it's why i like music
Fuck Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga and all the no talent losers promoted by no good shows like "America's got Talent", people need to rediscover real music, like this.
In all honestly, how can anyone hate this? It's new, even though it's decades old, it's original beyond new levels, it's a risky album that pushed the limits of music to a new aspect. I LOVE IT!
For all the historical bitching this has gotten, it's not bad at all. It's basically a noise-rock/industrial version of ambient music. If Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works" had a seizure, this would be it.
IT'S AWESOME MESS OF DISALUSIONISUMS SMOTHERERD IN OBNOXIOUSNESS,AND IS SOMETHING SUBSTANCIOULY RIDICOLUDED IN A ARENA FULL OF THOUGHTFULL PRAGMATISTS. WAIT , I THINK THATS MY KETTLE , NO , DOORBELL, OY FEY.
I remember just how ripped off i felt when i bought this, a double album no less, and realized the depth of contempt Reed had for the "common folk" that supported his skag habit. He never got another dollar out of me, the pompous wanker. His new album with Metallica is a complete joke, too. Just another no talent ego-dipped NYC fuckwad
this is all processed guitar feedback. I have the box set without the book. it seems to have a track which plays excerpts from this recording without any overdubs, but if you hear that it still doesnt make sense...
esto es como un revolution 9, pero en su versión terrorífica: parece una mezcla de sonidos subliminales y un viaje al lado más oscuro de tu conciencia.
to me clearly the first ever so called " industrial music " album !!! he invented the term also strangely it's rarely said , throbbing gristle are always credited for that but it's not correct lou reed did it first that's obvious !!! its biggest sucess was throwing shit to therecord's label's face , an operation in which he perfectly succeed in
This is definitely an experience if you're lucky enough to hear it on vinyl LP. I honestly don't know what to think of it, whether it's mad genius or a colossal joke, but there's no denying Metal Machine Music sits at the edge of extreme music. If nothing else, it's one hell of an endurance test.
Play all 4 at once, be efficient and enhance your experience!

I remember reading that parts three and four were just parts one and two played backwards - I always liked part III best.

Anyone heard Bugman by Blur or Acceleator by Primal Scream?
Both got rhythm, lyrics, on hit albums. But both are extremely noisey and at times - well...
