  • Cool video, told me exactly what I needed to see. You little English chap, your much appreciated.

  • Hey,

I want to make a video where i sort of place something on the screen (with VFX of course). How can i make it look as realistic as possible?

  • I was amazed that iMovie is only marginally better than windows movie maker. They should just be called slideshow makers. I guess I'm just too used to Vegas

  • Thanks was about to buy more software iMovie does more than I thought

  • Thanks you really helped

  • do you know how to make the video on top so its paler ? I dont know if you get what I'm saying ? but you would see both videos at the same time

  • :( No Matter How Far Away From The Beginning Clip I Go The Green Line Always Apears x

  • Thank you for the video. It answered my questions, and I got right to work.

  • thank you you genius

  • thanks man.. this changed the way i make covers now :)

  • Quick question - can you please (or if you have already can you link me) how to set a custom image for your youtube thumbnail pic? I am soooo confused! Thanks in advance x

  • @missbecky1986 Hey, to be able to do this you need to be a YouTube partner and then It will be in your video options as you upload it. Try Youtube . com/partners

  • Hey macman I have a question I do gameplay videos and I want to put a picture in one of the corners of my video but how do I overlap a picture over the video?

  • you are serisouly young

  • I am making a video wherein a detail of the scene is framed by a graphic box and then enlarged to show the detail 'in detail'. The detail is of a broken bottle near someone in danger of falling onto it. I want to enlarge the detail of the bottle so the audience can see it clearly and then flash the word "DANGER" repeatedly inside the box. Can iMovie do that?

  • this is not overlay...this is picture in picture.....come on.

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • It's not working for me.

  • I'm watching a tutorial made by someone a 100 years younger than I am. I'm losing my touch :'(

  • oh my gosh....i've been using iMovie since 2006 and never knew about that little check box. i feel unbelievable stupid

    thank you very much

  • ohhhh thanks man! good thing you mentioned that advanced tool thing cause every other tutorials never show you how to do that man THHAANNKKSS!!

  • Wow, all i had to do was enable advance uses, thanks!!!!

  • Nice... thanks!

  • @ScDnBMusic so 35000 just watched the video for light entertainment? I doubt that

  • @Macman2510 idc lol

  • @Macman2510 I got a video with like 250k views, and i can guarantee you not even 100k of them were satisfied. This Mac"KID" is obviously a douche, can't handle a bit of criticism.

  • @360ownez I guess so but they must have wanted to watch your video for some reason, criticism is merely fear of the unknown

  • @Macman2510 then hush, my vids have more views...

  • @360ownez ..but I have more subscribers xD

  • Thank you thank you thank you!!!! This was so helpful! :)))))))

  • When I insert more than one picture in the same video only the first picture shows up. When I scroll over the other pictures they work, but when I actually press play they don't pop up. Can anyone help??

  • the easy way is to go to imovie, drag your first video on the editing place, then drag your other video over the first video. select cutaway. then, go to your second video and click on the settings things. go to clip, then go to way to the bottom where rolling shutters and other stuff. the thing above it, i forgot the name, but it is at 100% , drag it to 50% or to where it fits for you.

    thanks,

    Alissa

  • Haha, I love your accent! xD

  • Thank you for this! I spent AGES trying to work out how to do this, bt couldn't, but now I know :]

  • i move the clip to the begining and it just puts the clip before it

  • the only options that pop out on my imovie09 is replace, insert, audio only, cancel :/

  • @mmcassie12 you need to go into your iMovie preferences and enable advanced options first.

  • @Macman2510

how would you do it the opposite way around.

like the picture on the video?

  • @Riceboy988 put whichever you want underneath on the min timeline, then drag the secondary pic/vid that you want on top, on top.

  • sorry the *main timeline

  • @mmcassie12 Same here :?

  • Wow!! How do you overlap it ??? I have iMovie09 so is there a difference ?

  • Thank you... Really Useful Advice !! :)

  • nice. thought i would have to get final cut for this. cheers

  • Wow. Never knew iMovie could do this. Thanks, dude.

  • i followed the steps thats were given in your tutorial. The only issue is my transitions are not working in the movie unless I remove the picture from the movie. Why is that?

  • umm speak slower next time you voice sounds retarded when you speak fast

  • THIS really helped me alot more then other videos! Thank you! : )

  • Excellent, thanks Macman2510.

  • I can't even import pictures into iMovie, they're all unselectable. Help?

  • @DeeAndAye unselectable in the finder or the green plus doesn't come up when you drag the pic?

  • @Macman2510 The green plus doesn't come up when I try to drag it into the project library

  • @Macman2510 Agreed. Wont allow you to import an image.

  • Can you channge the location of the picture like frame by frame, or in a movement sort of thing?

  • do you know how to make it so you have a bunch of different videos on one thing. like this but you would have more then 1 picture over the video?

  • how do you make it disappear a little so the 1 in front is tinted a little but you still see the 1 in back?

  • How do you overlay MULTIPLE videos in the same one?

    like, more than 1 box.

  • can you make a video for imovie 11? doing this exact thing?

  • thanks for the helpful tutorial man, just what i was looking for, keep it up... and tiny advice, just block and delete the trolls man, waste of time and space...

  • Thanks for the help, dude. Don't worry about any of these haters. Keep doing what you're doing!

  • do u know how 2 overlay more than 1 video? this is a request. thx. :)

  • ya thanks this is what i was looking for. fuck richard

  • Terrific job! You answered my questions about how to make iMovie do overlays AND taught me how to do Picture-in-Picture - well done, very useful video.

  • very helpful!

  • I'm halfway through this video, and a thought just occurred to me....

Why the fuck does it matter what someone sounds like if they're putting up a video to help people out on something? Don't be a fucking nuisance, you fucking twat. [:

    One love.

  • thhhhhhaaannnkkkss!!!!!!

  • great video amigo! dont listen to that richard idiot, whats wrong with him, is he jealous?

  • @delboy1978uk thanks :)

  • how did you get the picture on the bottom right next to the project library

  • great video thanks. @richardmaudsley77: You are a prick

  • you sound like harry potter on helium

  • this tutorial helped me out so much! i usually dont comment on videos but this was worth a comment! thanks alot!!

  • what i want to do is to put a still image in a movie. can anyone help me on this one

  • thank you so much for the tutorial!!!

  • I think I need to subscribe just to read the comments you have with richardmaudsley77! lol!!!!!!!

  • really descriptive instructions. I'd say thanks but I sadly don't have the update for this version of iMovie therefore wasn't able to use this tutorial :( it was fun watching and learning though :)

quite frankly, I wish everyone in the comments would shut the hell up with their whining about how you speak. The video is to help people overlay images onto videos in iMovie, not how to deduce where someone comes from by how they speak >:(

  • Also WTF recording your huge ass high res monitor and uploading at 360p. I can't read anything.

  • @richardmaudsley77 that is a 13inch macbook screen btw

  • thank you!!!!!

  • can you put more than two?

  • Thanks for this, my love for iMovie has grown even more now, knowing this is possible :p

  • cool thanks!

  • hey hey :D great tutorial? btw what did you use to record ur screen? :D thanks :D

  • trying to dissolve one 5 min clip so it is just barely visible and lay it over another clip

  • thank you so much!!! this is what i needed to know :)

  • Hey Yo! You rock.. and your tutorials are great! Thanks from Canada.

  • What is your age? I appreciate your tutorial. I expect to see you editing award winning films in the future. Keep it up buddy!

  • thanks for your support I was 12 when I made this video :)

  • @Macman2510

RP is the worst English accent. Ever.

  • @richardmaudsley77 emm what?

  • @Macman2510 You sound like a nonce!

I bet you're one of those people that pronounces the letter H.

  • @richardmaudsley77 Oh what you mean someone who speaks properly, oh yes I am one of those people that can pronounce words and letters properly :)

  • Congrats on having a shit upper class wuss accent.

  • @richardmaudsley77 congrats on not being able to speak the English language :)

  • @Macman2510

I'm more English than you, you saxon bastard. Take your shite h-adding accent and shove it up your arse.

  • @richardmaudsley77 you have no idea how English I am so you can't make that assumption. Oh woops did I just ruin your come back? Oh dear...

  • @Macman2510

You talk like a native upper class twit, or someone who badly wants to be one. From that, I can narrow you down to the south of england where the saxons where. I being from the north, am anglo. Hmm, Anglo's land, Englo's land, England...

So yes, more english than you, for what it's worth. (not much, nationality is a load of bollocks used as an excuse by racists)

At any rate, I'm free to say you sound like an inbred with too much money.

  • @richardmaudsley77 haha you are totally wrong. I am from the north so I guess that makes us the same. And come on your last line? Just a little pathetic, yes I think so too...

  • @Macman2510

Come off it, nobody from the north talks like that. Nobody at all.

  • @richardmaudsley77 well say hello to the first one :) I may not be from the north north but I'm deffo not from the south. But isn't thsi convo getting a little old now...? Just because you dont like the way I talk? I'm not trying to sell you my voice/accent I'm trying to help people with iMovie

  • @richardmaudsley77 If you don't have anything nice to say - don't say anything at all. Being a nationalistic, narrow-minded person won't get you anywhere. That's why you 'hate' wealthy people. I'm not wealthy, but at least I'm not a troll.

  • @myhatrules So you label me as a troll but act as if I'm serious. Good sir I award you with an internet demerit!

  • How do you change the opacity?

  • @AmericanAussie12 I would love to know the same thing.

  • @bwyfan19 (:

  • @AmericanAussie12 I figured it out! Instead of going and selecting picture in picture, you need to select cutaway. The image or clip will go right on top of your current video or image. Next, click inspector. There will now be an opacity slider under the clip tab!

  • @AmericanAussie12 have u found out the answer?

  • @AmericanAussie12 what i did was, i used powerpoint to change the transparency of the pic and then saved it as a png. it appears as it was set in imovie :)

  • Thanks so much -- exactly what I needed to know.

  • can this be done in imovie 08???

  • I dont think so, but you could try

  • thanks!

  • that was nice !! thanks

  • thank you so much!! this is exactly what i need!!

  • how did you put the youtube comments on your text editor ??

  • I just copied and pasted it

  • thx guys

  • but man it doesn't work when i paste it in wordpad

  • @daboulkioutaw Im pretty sure it only works with macosx.

  • Thanks For making the vidoe

  • thats ok does it help?
