WWE were gonna fire him unless he came out with something better. The JBL character saved his job, jumped him up from a low midcarder to a main eventer and one of the most hated wrestlers since Piper. Hate him all you want, its just making him more money lol.

I personally liked the APA Bradshaw best but if you watch him wrestle, from the opening bell to the end bell, he is the exact same Bradshaw. As far as style goes he has never changed from being a blackjack. And JBL is much better for his (wrestling) career.
