@Rainingzilla Perhaps in a perfect world that would be true. Unfortunately I know a great many people with close to perfect techniques that practice hours on end, but can't captivate an audience. On the other hand there's Nodame. Although she didn't have the best practicing habits or technique, it was her cantabile style that drew Chiaki to realize her potential. All I'm pointing out is that practice and talent don't always go together, although it's best when they do.
@CelestialZenith That's true. But I never do things for other people. You should always do things for yourself. One thing I realized when I was in the music world is that techniques and talent don't matter unless you have feeling. If you have a strong connection with what you're playing it's bound to reach your audience.
magnificent ,wonderful. it took me sometime to play it myself on the piano. i came to know this piece through tv film with marlin monroe.rachmaninov is the last classier genius .
@paulmcc11 ...Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto. Rachmaninov wrote this piece after coming out of his period of writer's block and depression. It's one of my favorite works of all time!
man.. i just keeep on watching the anime and drama over and over again.... though i think the anime feels better and has lots more to say, and the drama is just real funny n nice too. haha
This is probably a weird question, but does anyone know how to build a connection with classical music? I've watched this anime and I love it. I LIKE classical music but I don't love it. I've found exceptions (Ravel's "Une Barque Sur L'Ocean"), but for the most part I've never gotten close to tears with any classical piece, whether it's Rachmaninoff, Bach, etc. However, I'd love to learn to understand it.
@EvanFingerstyle the first time a classical piece has brought me to tears was when i watched tchaikovsky's grand pas de deux (one of my favorite pieces of music for many years now) accompanying shen and zhao's 2004 grand prix final. you can find the video easily on youtube. tell me what you think!
@EvanFingerstyle I'd say if you really want to appreciate classical music, learn to play an instrument. The piano is what I'd recommend but that's not always practical.
Understanding just how difficult it is to play some of these pieces will bring respect alone.
@EvanFingerstyle Oh and not all classical music is meant to move you to tears. Bach/Mozart and Beethoven were very playful. Chopin is full of melancholy. Liszt is very energetic.
But I'd say that you should listen to the second movement of this piano concerto. It's called adagio sostenuto. Look up Georgi Cherkin's version on YouTube. It's the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard.
This (Nodame Cantabile - Rachmaninov Concerto No 2) is the reason why I enrolled in Piano Special Class... It gives me chills whenever I see and listen to this video. Listening to this Romantic music makes me cry, it moves me.
Wow. I know close to nothing about music and this anime specifically this concerto made me want to learn more. I looked up the original concerto with Rachmaninoff playing it himself. It is very different isn't it. That's so cool!
JABLONGO 5 and @rusticyuppie, thumbs up for both comments. I wish I could play the rach 2 in a such unique version and, yes, they took a very long shot and scored animating the orquestra.
For the question: "Why, why is he unknown" I have my own answer: "Who cares..."
Chiaki wanted to play it the conventional way but Stresseman convinces him to play it more riggly. I love stresseman, he is a real Maestro lol. It's so epic the way Nodame drops her mask during the climax. The s orchestra did a good job too, all in all it was a success for everybody.
If you want to watch this show in it's best form , search for the one subbed by "hard gay fansubs" , as the translation is more humorous, and it subtitles the text on screen as well as cultural notes to help with the humor. It's not on youtube because it gets removed, but it comes up on google. also usenet.
I really like the interpretaion of the Rachmaninoff 2nd conerto for piano but the part that I do not really draw into is 7:33 my favorite part in thie piece, it is not powerful enough, but you have to admit that the very first notes caught my attention and drawn me in, very delicately and powerfully done, a beautiful sound.
@Vesivian Listen to this when you're horrifically depressed, your mouth will fall open, your eyes will tear up and your nose will run but you won't really care, your chest will swell with your breathing and your heart will begin to pound, it's like being brought to life after a long dreary, painful waking death.
The music is good, but animation wise there's nothing to back it up. They really should have animated the audience and ochestra ... such beautiful music to an anime that has such stereotypical static backgrounds. Ah well, kudos on the sections they do animation well such as the fingers for the piano.
