  • 7 people think they can do better than chiaki

  • Speedoka

  • love this

  • play to 8min why not finish it = =?

  • best anime ever

  • who played in this version?

  • Everyone has the talent to play the piano... It just takes time and practice.

  • @Rainingzilla Perhaps in a perfect world that would be true. Unfortunately I know a great many people with close to perfect techniques that practice hours on end, but can't captivate an audience. On the other hand there's Nodame. Although she didn't have the best practicing habits or technique, it was her cantabile style that drew Chiaki to realize her potential. All I'm pointing out is that practice and talent don't always go together, although it's best when they do.

  • @CelestialZenith That's true. But I never do things for other people. You should always do things for yourself. One thing I realized when I was in the music world is that techniques and talent don't matter unless you have feeling. If you have a strong connection with what you're playing it's bound to reach your audience.

  • Nodame orchestra

  • Awesome!

But I have a question - who plays it? I always have this question when I watch musical animes.

  • EPIC

  • Nodame Cantabile is the perfect anime for classical musicians... a bit of music, romance and comedy... ultra entertaining... <3

  • @Astar105 pff, Perfect for CLASSICAL MUSICIANS you say? I listen to metal only, and found this anime brilliant!

  • @l70hts even better! PERFECT FOR ALL MUSIC LOVERS!!! Thumbs up to the creators!!!

  • @Astar105 I am not a classical musician... but it is beyond amazing and this peice is beautiful

  • what the heck is this.

  • @paulmcc11 ...Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto. Rachmaninov wrote this piece after coming out of his period of writer's block and depression. It's one of my favorite works of all time!

  • Comment removed

  • nice fingering there, I must say ^^

  • My favourite concerto!

  • awesome!! :D

  • I'd always thought it was meant to be a tad faster.

Good animation though. Good series too.

A fantastic piece, goes without saying. Shame this was far from my favourite recording of it :|

  • Crap, I cried from the pure beauty of it T.T

  • prefect !!!! :)

  • beautiful.

  • He said "it starts with the introduction"- well of course it does! Nice video anyway.

  • chiaki senpai!! ^-^

  • Wow, anime- cultural? Who knew?

  • Chiaki senpai Saiko :D

  • i really almost cried at this scene.. so beautiful ;)

  • Love this so much! OAO

  • HOLY !^^$! That was so epic... I just loved the spell-bound people. That's how it should be when people hear musical greatness like this...

  • This guy in the anime actually plays it how it's supposed to e played in real life lol. The right fingering and everything.

  • Love that!! thanks!!

  • goosebumps. :O

  • Thumbs up if you're here randomly.

  • HARD TO STOP TEARS FALLING DOWN

  • @portal0901

I have been in this sitiuation for about three years, almost everytime i listen to this, i can't hold myself

  • this is such a fun anime, i love it very much :)

  • man.. i just keeep on watching the anime and drama over and over again.... though i think the anime feels better and has lots more to say, and the drama is just real funny n nice too. haha

  • This is probably a weird question, but does anyone know how to build a connection with classical music? I've watched this anime and I love it. I LIKE classical music but I don't love it. I've found exceptions (Ravel's "Une Barque Sur L'Ocean"), but for the most part I've never gotten close to tears with any classical piece, whether it's Rachmaninoff, Bach, etc. However, I'd love to learn to understand it.

  • @EvanFingerstyle the first time a classical piece has brought me to tears was when i watched tchaikovsky's grand pas de deux (one of my favorite pieces of music for many years now) accompanying shen and zhao's 2004 grand prix final. you can find the video easily on youtube. tell me what you think!

  • @AvidHobbyist I totally agree with you!! grand pas de deux!! what a piece!!!

  • @EvanFingerstyle I'd say if you really want to appreciate classical music, learn to play an instrument. The piano is what I'd recommend but that's not always practical.

Understanding just how difficult it is to play some of these pieces will bring respect alone.

  • @EvanFingerstyle Oh and not all classical music is meant to move you to tears. Bach/Mozart and Beethoven were very playful. Chopin is full of melancholy. Liszt is very energetic.

But I'd say that you should listen to the second movement of this piano concerto. It's called adagio sostenuto. Look up Georgi Cherkin's version on YouTube. It's the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard.

  • Who plays really?

  • it's pretty sad that not so much people watch this anime :(

    cuz thi anime is AWESOME!!

  • Lol the new anime about classical music, cool i'll watch it

  • Amazing anime....

  • Chiaki's Former Instructor: Welp...

  • This (Nodame Cantabile - Rachmaninov Concerto No 2) is the reason why I enrolled in Piano Special Class... It gives me chills whenever I see and listen to this video. Listening to this Romantic music makes me cry, it moves me.

  • holy i got goosebumps!!!

  • Wow. I know close to nothing about music and this anime specifically this concerto made me want to learn more. I looked up the original concerto with Rachmaninoff playing it himself. It is very different isn't it. That's so cool!

  • Did they actually record the Concerto with a real orchestra?

  • Ah god I know this song! I was watching the anime and was like omg I know this song. But where on earth from XD I don't remember :P

  • I remember watching this series way before my Rachmaninov obession started

  • @Keira13 i became rachmaninov obsessed because of this anime!

  • @sickofnoname So did I, so did I :D

  • LOL at the audience's faces. They're all gaping throughout!

  • SICK !!!!!

  • JABLONGO 5 and @rusticyuppie, thumbs up for both comments. I wish I could play the rach 2 in a such unique version and, yes, they took a very long shot and scored animating the orquestra.

For the question: "Why, why is he unknown" I have my own answer: "Who cares..."

  • its very powerful

  • 1 pessoa não sabe reconhecer um bom trabalho.

  • Chiaki wanted to play it the conventional way but Stresseman convinces him to play it more riggly. I love stresseman, he is a real Maestro lol. It's so epic the way Nodame drops her mask during the climax. The s orchestra did a good job too, all in all it was a success for everybody.

  • @LversusKira it wasn't the s orchestra who accompanied him

  • @juvennino i meant the entire recital was a success , including s orchestra's rhapsody in blue.

  • If you want to watch this show in it's best form , search for the one subbed by "hard gay fansubs" , as the translation is more humorous, and it subtitles the text on screen as well as cultural notes to help with the humor. It's not on youtube because it gets removed, but it comes up on google. also usenet.

  • 7:38 epic face.

  • oh never mind, found it, for those of you looking for a version without people talking: /watch?v=5CC47POt3mY

  • truly beautiful piece. i wish it didn't have people speaking over it so i could put it on my ipod

  • Love that Anime!

  • Damn I want to put this on my ipod without all the talking and sound effect stuff

  • I really like the interpretaion of the Rachmaninoff 2nd conerto for piano but the part that I do not really draw into is 7:33 my favorite part in thie piece, it is not powerful enough, but you have to admit that the very first notes caught my attention and drawn me in, very delicately and powerfully done, a beautiful sound.

  • ラフマニノフ

    if in english

    RAFUMANINOFU

    lol XD

  • amazing

  • i like this version very different but very powerfull

  • Lol why the hell is everyone's mouth in the audience open

  • @Vesivian Listen to this when you're horrifically depressed, your mouth will fall open, your eyes will tear up and your nose will run but you won't really care, your chest will swell with your breathing and your heart will begin to pound, it's like being brought to life after a long dreary, painful waking death.

  • @ninjatoothpaste well not everyone was depressed, im sure in the audience.

  • Not ONCE have I listened to this song and not cried.

So beautiful. In every single way.

This anime is amazing, the way they got the fingers to hit the right notes is just incredible.

First time i watched this my jaw dropped, I cried and was utterly speechless.

    Such a powerful peice. Bravo.

  • @youngrockerstonight and also the second time I have commented haha!

  • The music is good, but animation wise there's nothing to back it up. They really should have animated the audience and ochestra ... such beautiful music to an anime that has such stereotypical static backgrounds. Ah well, kudos on the sections they do animation well such as the fingers for the piano.

  • The only version that gives me goosebumps from the very first second.... Even Rachmaninov would be proud ti hear this.....

  • so... rachmaninoff's name in katakana "rafumaninofu"

  • I wish we got to hear Chiaki play more...he's a great maestro and all but I love his playing.

  • I think the animation adds to the drama.

  • wow... the animation of the people playing the instruments is SOOO much better and more accurated comared to La Corda... makes a musician otaku happy :D

  • I can't believe how mesmerizing this piece is. Even my youngest brother, who couldn't care less about classical music is drawn to this. Thank You so much, god of music =)

  • Amo cuando mesclan la musica clasica con el anime!!! (L)

  • This anime tends to be really cheesy when they over-exaggerate the emotions. I mean wtf at 7:40. Is he having a seizure?

  • @randomnonsense1000 Typical of all Japanese anime...

  • First time I saw this, it brought tears to my eyes, the piece of music brought chills down my spine, absolutley beautiful.

And the way they animated his hands to the exact keys on the piano was unbeileveable.

    Just breath-taking.

  • this inspired me to play this song on the piano.... only thing is...... its 48 pgs....

  • can someone please try to find the recording for this interpretation of Rachmaninov?

  • @musicgirl070692 i think this may be the leonard pennario recording featuring the los angeles philharmonic orchestra, conducted by erich leinsdorf. i have the record and this sounds identical to me.

  • Can you tell me who is the artist?

  • 0_o ?? uh... interesting. What is this?

  • @doomownage94 A piano concerto.

  • i swear i'm like 1,000 of these views. its just so beautiful :'D

  • This is my favorite ep of the whole series... Since I heard it it has been my favorite Piano Concerto.... Greetings from Ponce, Puerto Rico !

  • @lokoxmusica

what episode is it? i've watched all the seasons of Nodame Cantabile quite some time ago, and don't remember.

  • What's the name of the REAL orchestra

  • @animesith999 isn't it the nodame orchestra?

  • @animesith999 It sounds like Philadelphia Orchestra with Andrei Gavrilov not 100% sure but i guess it is

  • This is awesome

  • Expressive in a unique way ^.^

  • Masterful, almost supernatural understanding of music, stoic yet virtuostic piano style, a serious mental block resolved by hypnotism... I do believe Chiaki may actually be modeled after Rachmaninov himself.

  • the tempo is slow but the emotions and the clarity rise, great interpretation

  • After watching Nodame Cantabile .. i seems loving music more and more

  • @5525909 me too :)

  • I wonder who does really play this ? because it's one of the best interpretation i've heard !

  • @PrincessYuuko Evengy Kissin played the piano if I am not mistaken, I am not sure who the orchestra were or the conductor was though. x

  • @Yucie13: If i'm not mistaken it's episode 11 or 12...

This piece got my hair on my skin standing up.. it was so beautifully played...

  • what episode is this?

  • this is one of those songs which gets better with each replay ...

  • I know nothing about classical but this still gave me the chills.Unbelievable

  • i was wondering , hey ! Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto # 2 is 10 mins right ? But if you listewn to this , its really complete O.e, it makes me wonder . I cried just by hearing this . T.T

  • @anzheillaCL rachmaninoffs piano concerto no.2 is about 40mins long...

2nd and 3rd movements are still part of the concerto...

  • Pianist's fingers must have been a pain to animate.

  • This is an AMAZING piece.

  • the animation on the fingers is pretty accurate :D This is a wonderful perfomance

  • they animated the fingers playing all the notes correctly

    which is ridiculous

  • @JABLONGO not ridiculous at all, if it didnt it would look weird just like when the mouth doesnt match the speech when voices are dubbed over.

    PS: u newb :)

  • @JABLONGO

    uhhh, no they didn't

  • @JABLONGO Exactly. Hell, I even referred to this for fingerings at 1:18 at first.

  • @JABLONGO I guess they used rotoscoping

  • @JABLONGO Japanese precision!

  • @JABLONGO It almost appears that the close-ups of all the instrumentation are animated over real images. They have a different quality to the animation compared to the wide shots and the complexity makes it look like they may have used video from the actual performers either as a template or at least a reference.

  • @JABLONGO not so ridiculous

  • @JABLONGO Yeah it's incredible how they can draw exactly the movements of the finger playing the piano. It's really great.

  • @JABLONGO they used 3d software to animate the fingers while the character is playing

  • @JABLONGO I was wondering if that was correctly. I don't play the piano so yeah

  • @JABLONGO i know its unbeleivable

  • @JABLONGO Ridiculous? This is the 1st time I see a decent piano and a decent fingering in a product of animation. Well done, I say.

  • @MarcheseCadmio88 Tom and Jerry's Hungarian Rhadsody

  • @MarcheseCadmio88 If you think this is decent fingering, you should watch more hentai.

  • @MarcheseCadmio88 people are bashing on JABLONGO. I think he just misused a word. I think he meant "Ridiculously Awesome" At this point it's obvious nobody would think that making the fingering exact in animation is ridiculous.

  • @MarcheseCadmio88 the rotoscope technique could have been a lot more polished, but for an anime series, it's pretty clean.

  • @JABLONGO which is amazing :O

  • @JABLONGO ther4e just that talented lol i noticed that too

  • @JABLONGO crazy asians !

  • @JABLONGO Ridiculous you silly bastard. GTFO STFU.

  • I really like this interpretation but unfortunately, it doesn't include parts from teh 3rd movement like the live action does. Does anyone know who played his recording?

  • i really love nodame cantabile that it make me cry TT.TT

    good rachmaninoff ^^b

  • Just amazing. Rachmaninoff's concertos may be incredibly difficult to play, but it's hardly a walk in the park to animate drawings to play it instead...I love this scene, it's artistic but I love it because there are so many points at which you can follow all the individual notes, and that must have taken so much time and skilled effort!

  • memories watching this...I miss Nodame Cantabile :( and if only everytime it's played it's as perfect as this

  • One of my favorite scenes from this anime. The first part of this piece and the part that starts at 7:32 are my favorite parts of this Concerto especially.

  • @Shadowmyst1 Me too. I downloaded this song and when those parts play I get all giddy!
