@idkjade The reason for this is because it was difficult for the animators to draw all the cells necessary for each scene and have the character not move or jerk unrealistically in front of the stationary background. The solution was to keep the character undulating in time to the music - which was a mathmatical solution. It gives the early cartoons a surrealistic charm.

You can tell alot of the moving is on loop, being played backwards and forwards again and again.

what makes most of these vintage cartoons so awesome compared with today's cheap animation is that for some reason these studios did lots of these to be featured in theatres,..i guess these where the animated flicks from yesterday.. just shorter than a regular motion picture...thats why they look so good. todays animation..its not bad..but NEVER will match these masterpieces in quality

It was actually in this cartoon that Max Fleischer's Turntable Camera was used for the first time. By adding miniatures and glassplates, a realistic 3D effect was added to the cartoon, as can be seen in some of the scenes in this short.

This happened three years before Disney made The old Mill, where Disney's multiplane camera was tested for the first time.
