Sorry to be picky but i think this is an automatic transmission (with automatic clutches) try this in a manual transmission vehicle and i think you will get a different outcome

This can be performed with a manual car either... morover, i guess it is safer to do so, since you can control more stuff.

also, this can be performed with either a fwd or a rwd stick shift car.

You aproach the ramp with higher speed in a high gear. When the driven wheel is about to hit the ramp, you unlock the clutch, shift down to 2nd or even 1st, then after the wheel hopped on the ramp, engage the clutch and, voilá.

In the original verson of the Italian Job, with Michael Caine, the same stunt was performed (3 times) with minis. The difference between that and this, is that minis are front wheel drive. Not sure if that would make a significant difference, but it seems like it might.

K.I.T.T. was a Firebird Trans-Am. A Trans-Am is specific model of Firebird. It's a package option. The difference is the hood, the wheels, the seats, the gear shift, the CD player control, foglights, and engine options. Otherwise it looks identical to a vanilla Firebird.

NBC used more than just a Trans-Am as the show went on. They even used Camaros occasionally modified to look like a Firebird for some of the stunts.

Agree with the numerous others who said that the Italian Job proved a very long time ago that this can be done.

So the doubts expressed in the first's minute's footage suggest that either the Mythbusters employed very poor researchers, or (more likely) employed a little artistic licence. The cheeky scallywags.

But Mythbusters isn't just about the 'yes' or 'no'.

They also did a good job of explaining why it can be done without smashing the car through the rear of the truck's cab.
