Hi im almosts 16 in high school near chicago and choose to do a fire science class that takes up 3/4 of the school day and i realy want o be a fire fighter or something with EMT i just want to ask you ifi you enjoy your job and pay. what are the days like in the fire station do you have a family? i thanks you for your help and thanks hero.
i can help you somewhat. im still young. only 18 so no family since im young but i do have plenty of time for friends. a normal day. hmm depending on where you work if its a hq station with the chief your up all day finding things to do. if your at a substation or if your the chiefs office is at city hall you can sneak a nap in here or there. watch tv and stuff. BUT thats after all your work is done. station trucks everything. some days youll have training some youll be in the community doing
business inspections hydrant inspections teaching fire prevention. youll find ways to pass time. it can get slow. but its always fun. pranks. its the best job in the world. and i know guys that support there whole family with just that one job. it depends on what department you work at and how much you training you have. if you go in there with a ff3 or something. umm longevity pay. alot of things will get you more money. alot of guys have two jobs, to pass time and for extra $ inthe wallet.
@morganfish1 The job is just that...a job. The pay is ok and the health insurance is decent. Get a college education and then use the fd as an option and not a future.
@lfd8 How can you say it's just a job. nearly 100 firefighters die each year in the line of duty in the USA. if you simply call it a job you throw away what firefighters/ EMTs stand for and what they die doing, protecting and saving life and property. Its a way of life, its a lifestyle. We risk alot to save alot, we risk little to save little, and we will not risk anything so save what is already lost or unsalvageable. you have to have the heart to do the job you get out what you put into it
@BFrank326 just to note...that number is actually going down..im pretty sure 2009 was like 95 and 2010 was like 87 this was the first 2 years in 15 that it was under 110...so were doin better :].....it is a way of life. most of the guys including me eat sleep breathe the fire service.
@morganfish1 greatest job in the world...does take a stress on you and your family though and it also depends on how busy your station is...ie my truck not the busiest but not the slowest truck outside phila it aint a bad gig and the pay don't matter (well thats a lie the pay helps feed the fam) i have 2 familys, A platoon who i work with and my fiance and daughter. only hero is the guy who don't make it home dyin for someone he never knew
nice vid. I am 14 and jus like you. I am a crazy fire buff!!!!! I go into work with my uncle once in a while and ride on the rig with to all the runs sometimes even get my own bunkin gear he is a lieutenant on Eng.22. It is so much fun and i love it!! Being a firefighter has always been my dream and i am getting closer every day! good look i am looking forward to more videos.
hey lil man cool video! when u wait outside the house and the doors are open, listen for the turnout, instead of asking...I was just like u as a kid except i had no camera. Not that asking is bad. U either get a response or not. No biggie. Good work again.
well i was listin to my scanner and herd a fire where rescue 1 was first due and i wanted to c if it was the same one but ya ma friendss break ma bawls bout that every day now lolz

Why must you bug the FF when he's trying to do his job? "OOH, OOH, tell me where the fire is so I can touch myself thinking about it!!!"
