  • I especially like that you changed from chording to fingerstyle and then back again. It was more interesting that way. Thank you.

  • Thank you for doing that.

  • @44433391 Finlandia?

  • Bravo Richard. Compassionate delicate wistful and with great strength

  • This is played so clean... :)

    Very well done...

  • I love this song. this is my favorite church song!!! This song got me through some tough times. I wish you had the sheet music or tabs on the Internet!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song. this is my favorite church song!!! This song got me through some tough times. I wish you had the sheet music or tabs on the Internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish you had sheet music or tabs for this song on the Internet!!!!!!!!!!!This is my favorite church song. I'm LDS (Mormon) and this song is hymn# 124 in our hymn book. This song got me through some tough times.

  • Wow! That is a beautiful rendition skillfully played! Where could I get the sheet music or tabs for it?! Or do I have to figure it out from the video?

  • No sheets or tabs hav been developed for this piece, sorry!

  • Oh too bad! Guess I'll see how far I can get from your video. Thanks for responding.

  • Absolutely perfect. Do you have the tabs for your version. I'd love to learn it. Thanks.

  • Amazing!! Thanks for this great song!! May God bless you :)

  • Thank you for your playing. It was very beautiful .

  • I had to tell you, my dear grandma and best friend loved this song. While she was in her last hours, we tried to find this hymn to play for her for comfort. (both hers and ours) I couldn't find the hymn, so I came to YouTube and found your beautiful rendition, which we played continuously through the evening. It brought such a beautiful and warm spirit to the room, and now holds a precious place in my heart. Thank you so very much!

  • I am moved by your words. Thank you and may God Bless you.

  • BEAUTIFUL man.... really nice guitar work!

  • Thank you!

  • beautiful, thank you---yes, I have read that this was Eric Liddell's favorite hymn--in fact, I read that they played it at his funeral

  • Hey Richard... I just remembered a saying I once heard by...oh I don't remember, but it's this 'you're never truly an artist until someone hates you or your work.' So take heart, the naysayers merely confirm this...you provoke a part of them into movement...you are an artist.

  • great guitarist You R greetings from Finland!

  • Hey can you put up the chords for this? I've been trying to learn this too... and I can't find it anywhere! thank you so much!

  • beautiful brother its pretty sweet

  • Many hymns were Christian lyrics coupled with common/secular tunes, which made the hymns easier to remember. Both songs - the spiritual and the patriotic - are beautiful.

This melody remains one of my all-time favorites.

  • Beautiful one.

  • With the original lyrics, this is the most amazing piece of music ever written. Today is indepedence day in Finland.

  • Oi Suomi, katso, sinun päiväs' koittaa, yön uhka karkoitettu on jo pois, ja aamun kiuru kirkkaudessa soittaa kuin itse taivahan kansi sois'. Yön vallat aamun valkeus jo voittaa, sun päiväs' koittaa, oi synnyinmaa. Oi nouse, Suomi, nosta korkealle pääs' seppelöimä suurten muistojen, oi nouse, Suomi, näytit maailmalle sa että karkoitit orjuuden ja ettet taipunut sa sorron alle, on aamus' alkanut, synnyinmaa.
  • Thank you for a beautiful rendition of my favourite Hymn. I was actually looking for the piano score when I came across this. Ever thought about playing it on a 12 string? I suspect that might add another dimension of grandeur.

    Thanks again

    John F. Salisbury UK

  • John, Thanks for the comment. I had a 12 string years ago and yes it would add more sound but I can't do the same things on a 12 string as I can on a 6. Thanks again.

  • when I was little, my dad payed guitar for me, this reminds me of him, so beautiful.

  • Thanks for the complement. I am glad you enjoyed it and the memory that it stirred up for you.

  • You played this very well! This is my favorite hymn and I'm Agnostic so it is truly saying something.

  • Thanks for the comment bEsS2010; talk about Crossover!

  • It doesnt make a difference if you're religious or agnostic, Sibelius' Finlandia hymn (the original lyrics) is about Finland's independence, not about religion.

  • BEAUTIFULLY PLAYED...I SERIOUSLY DISAGREE WITH MS.GIBBLER...you do the song MORE than justice...god bless you...i loved it:)

  • now dont get me wrong mr. this song just happens to be the symbol of freedom from slavery and oppression of the soviet union.and most of all idependence of Finland. many people living here in the north dont even know that this is a religious song in rest of the world =) Finlandia! Suomi! Hakkaa päälle pohjan poika!

  • Well played. But remember, no Jesus Christ or god in heavens is greater than the the land of birth,Finland

  • I believe that Creator of all would take exception to that statement.

  • Thanks Richard - you play it beautifully.

  • Thanks Richard. Please ignore kimmygibbler2. It's the Lord Jesus who should be worshipped - not 2000 years of Christendom! Church worship is important but does it make you a Christian?

BTW, what is the chord prog for BSMS?

  • I am going to have to put it in tabs because I use a lot of partial chords. I will respond to you when I get it done. It is in the Key of C:

    C,G,C,F, C,G,C,AM, G,G,C

    C,G,C,F, C,G,C,AM, G,G,C

    C,G,G,bar-5th fret, C,C,C,G,...

  • I'm glad Bob Rognlien dictates your worship. Why worry about divine liturgy, only 2000 years of christendom to back that up.

  • Luke 19:39-40 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." 40 But Jesus answered, "I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out !"

  • ...you just butchered my favorite hymn of all time! Why in the heck would you play Be Still My Soul on guitar. I just hope you don't play this when your in an actual church. Be Still My Soul is meant for divine service with an organ.

  • "True worship is not limited to an event or a place but becomes more and more a lifestyle in which everything we do is an expression of our love for Jesus." -- Bob Rognlien

  • Thanks for the rendition. This is one of my favorite hymns as well!

  • DO you bash on every video you view? the music isnt even religious in its origin (no offense meant to you richardsharp) the music is entitled "finlandia", you sound much like a PHARISEE with all your rebuking and faultfinding, god bless you.

  • This man is expressing praise to his lord and he has been blessed with a gift that he can be able to express this gift in his praise to god. I doubt that it was butchered!I dont think god cares if the hym is played on a hair comb! the fact is that you are giving him your time in love, honour and praise! and im positive that god wouldnt care, it seems to just bring the negative out in yourself, for which im sure your god would be saddened.

  • Wow... beautifully played. That was music for the soul - thank you for posting it.

  • I truly love this.

  • Glad you enjoyed it.

  • when are you moving to Iowa?

  • Your playing style is awesome! What kind of guitar?

  • Thank you. The guitar is a Taylor GC-Custom with Elixir Phosphor Bronze light strings.
