Not sure if that was your fault or the equipment's. Sometimes they can swing out and clang together and make you lose your balance though. Something that works for me is when you do the turn (say, turning left) is to shrug the right shoulder up higher than the left side and keep them tight while bending the wrists inwards slightly. This way of gripping it is nice too as then it takes longer to get tired.
