Nice two axis drive system. I like very much your motor drive with the punched out strip of metal that then can conform to the form of the platform. I am designing a sun sensor also but am just using some inexpensive photo transistors with an interface circuit to a programmable logic controller.
Looks like you should add some HYSTERESIS to your circuit to create a null zone and to prevent continuous searching around target.
