  • John Steele was the 82nd airbourne trooper from Alton Illinois whose parachute snagged on the steeple of the church in Ste. Mere Eglise in the early hours of D-Day morning.....shot in the foot, he played dead until rescued....he survived the war and lived into the 1990s....
